The owners are the founder and the principal of Venta Prep School in Carp, Ontario. One of the owners will celebrate her 104nd birthday soon. Then she'll be coming to Exuma to get away from the cold for a couple of weeks herself.
Dave purchased this House in 1995
Why Dave chose Exuma
I've been a regular visitor to Little Exuma for over 52 years.
What makes this House unique
This home has a unique location. This is one of the very few Exuma rentals located on a paved road. Easily accessible, but still very private, right on the shore with views over the harbor and ocean clear to the horizon. From the Deck you will see some of the most spectacular sunsets imaginable. Many of the most beautiful beaches in the whole world are nearby, as close as 1/2 mile away.

Dave was great in every aspect of planning and booking our trip. House is beautiful and well maintained. Would definitely book again!
View to the flats
Ferry Side is a very nice house set up just right with four bedrooms for a group. If you are a bone fisherman this is the place for you. Just remember It's about a 20 minute drive into Georgetown but close to Little Exuma sites. Dave is very helpful and everything in the house is neat clean and works great.
Unforgettable vacations! Excellent choice!
Our family of 5 together with a friend spent 6 wonderful days at the Exumas. The “Ferry side Villa” was an excellent choice for our stay. The house is immediately after the bridge that connects Great Exuma to Little Exuma and is really close to wonderful and pristine beaches with the best sea color we had ever seen.
The house has a beautiful terrace with great water view. We enjoyed the outside grill as well as cooking and spending time at the house which is very comfortable and well equipped. We woke up and went to bed early in order to enjoy the days during winter time.
I really appreciated all the travel guides and books found in the house to learn about the Exumas, the Bahamas and the Caribbean as well as all the information provided.
We relaxed and enjoyed the different paradisiac beaches: Tropic of Cancer, Coco Plum Beach – a perfect spot for kite surfers and beautiful place to collect sand dollars- and those closer to the house. I would definitely recommend to rent a car. You will need it and it is worth to drive along the island and visit the different towns.
We tasted the Bahamian cuisine: crab salad, fish, conch fritters and rice, as well as the 2 Bahamian beers ‘’Sands’’ and ‘’Kalik’’.
We took a great tour on a motor boat that departed from Great Exuma and were able to meet the swimming pigs, rays and iguanas and visited beautiful beaches and islands. We also met people from different countries visiting the region.
People are very friendly in the island. Visitors to the islands are also very open to chat.
My last words are for Dave and his wife Lorraine. We want to thank them for their warm hospitality, all their information, tips and recommendations on best beaches, restaurants etc. They were ready to help us and answer to our questions or needs. We did as instructed in the welcome letter and bought all the groceries as soon as we left the airport. We enjoyed Lorraine’s passion with photos and had the great opportunity to spend some moments when Dave and Lorraine shared their feelings and experience of living in this distant part of the world. We will treasure this moments forever. The visit to the Exumas and the experience at the ‘’Ferry Side villa’’ wouldn’t have been the same without them! Theyhelped us not to feel so far away from home (Argentina) in these isolated isles. In sum, Unforgettable vacations! We really hope to come back soon. Ines, Carlos, Malena, Maria, Santiago and Tomas.
Although I didn't really personally meet the owner Dave or the caretaker of the house, Dave gave very clear directions of how to get to the house, tips and information on how to make our stay a perfect one! The layout of the house is perfect and works! We had 6 people with us and everyone was very comfortable. The house has everything you could possibly need, especially in the kitchen.
After the first night, I was very surprised to wake up the next morning with no body aches like I usually do when traveling! The beds are super comfortable ( I slept on a few of them during my trip). We went out on water excursions everyday so it was nice to have an abundance of towels available to us. There are beach chairs available too.
The view from the balcony is spectacular! Heck the view from the inside is spectacular! I was cooking dinner admiring the baby blue water while the sun was setting! Just amazing!
Just a little warning if you choose to get in the water at the back and you have small kids. My teen kids pranked us! They knew that if we stepped into the water we would sink. My husband is 6 ft. and went right into the mush after stepping into the water. He immediately sunk in to his thighs and had to really struggle to pull his legs out. Just be aware of that. No biggie. Otherwise this property is just beautiful!
Thank you Dave!
Christmas in paradise
Our stay at Ferry Side Villa was Christmas in paradise.
We arrived Christmas Eve and spent a week enjoying Exuma. We had 2 families with a total of 8 adults. The house was exactly like the photos, very neat and clean, enough room for all comfortably. The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes and appliances needed although we did not eat there much. There was enough linens as well as beach towels and chairs, which was a plus because we went to the beach everyday. The deck is quite large overlooking a beautiful Bay, nice to look at and to kayak from.
Our group spent a lot of time at the beaches on Little Exuma. Forbes Hill beach was our favorite, smaller than Tropic of Cancer beach but quieter and had shade when needed. It was also closer to Ferry Side. Santana's is a must, we went there twice. Our group spent a day with Roberts Island adventures exploring Pig Island, the sand bar, Thunderball Grotto, and swimming with sharks. I would have liked another 2 days to do a few more things so I guess that gives us a reason to return.
Anytime we had a question about the house or how things worked at the house, Dave was very quick to respond which helped make this stay very relaxing and enjoyable. Exuma and the Bahamas are a wonderful place to spend the holidays.
Rented house for yearly fly fishing trip to the Bahamas. Plenty of room for the six of us (each having own bed.) Perfect location for those wanting to get away from it all. Georgetown, groceries, liquor etc. all within about 15 minute drive, 30 minutes or so from the airport. Our host Dave and cleaning staff were very accommodating and made us feel welcome and taken care of. Kitchen and amenities were top notch. TV had full compliment of channels, perfect for six guys wanting to watch sports at night after day of hardcore fishing. Small bar literally 100 yards down the road, made us feel at home there.
Views off the back of the house were spectacular. Rented Kayaks and had access to a lot of good fishing flats without driving. The major fishing flats were about a 10 minute drive away. You'd need some local info on how to access them however, which we did. Used local guides daily and they picked us up at the house or met them at the boat ramp about 1/4 mile away which we walked to.
The island in general was beyond beautiful. Hard to put to words, unspoiled, breathtaking water...as blue as you'll ever see anywhere on the planet. Friendly locals, safe and LAID BACK! Highly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle as a lot of the roads off main road are a little tough to get through without it.
The only drawbacks had nothing to do with the property. Lots of sharks if you want to wade for bonefish - wouldn't recommend swimming unless you're not afraid of them. Just takes a little getting used to. Lots of misquitos and "no-see ums" at night time. Apparently there are scorpions on the island as I brought one home to NC in my bag by mistake. That's all part of the Bahamas. The island is as "non-touristy" as you could want. There is a Sandals resort up north but the only time we were aware of those high maintenance visitors was when they got off the plane at the airport.
All in all, great rental property. Well worth the price. Plan on coming back next year with same group.
Thanks Michael for your review.
I would like to clarify that the sharks you refer to are small juveniles who hang around the flats until they grow up and move out to deep water. Visitors who come to swim at the beaches will be very, very unlikely to ever encounter any shark. ;-) I've owned property on a nearby beach sine 1964 and never seen even one there.
Some of the prettiest beaches in the world are located right on Little Exuma. It's very possible to spend all day on any of several gorgeous white sand beaches within a five minute drive of the Ferry and not see another person all day. Launch a kayak or start your bonefishing adventure at the edge of the lawn. Nightlife is as close as a 1/2 mile away, or the clubs in George Town are only a 10 mile drive. The new Tropical Breeze restaurant (Great reviews) and the famous Santanna's (legendary gathering place) are just a short drive to the East.
