Tilghman Island Cottage for Six - Across from Marina and Knapps Narrows

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Cozy and bright 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom cottage

Enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Tilghman Island from this bright and comfortable 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage known for many years as the vacation rental 'The Roost.' The cottage, which is located on a quiet residential street across from a marina on Knapps Narrows, is within short walking distance of waterfront restaurants, the Tilghman drawbridge, marinas, boating-related activities and rentals, and expansive water views.

Located on approximately half an acre, it has a spacious backyard and a separate one-car garage for parking and storage. The living room and sunroom offer glimpses of the water and boating activity in the marina. Recreational boaters will appreciate The Roost's close walking proximity to marinas with transient and seasonal slips, as well as a driveway that can accommodate a small boat trailer.

Guests will enjoy spending their days on the water kayaking, boating, fishing, or crabbing. Some have used the cottage as a home base for exploring the Eastern Shore and Mid-Atlantic region—visiting nearby towns and villages or taking day trips to Washington, DC or Ocean City. Those looking to unplug and unwind closer to home can explore the Island by foot or by bike, cook fresh seafood in the well-stocked kitchen, or read a book under the maple tree in the back yard.

The property is licensed for rentals by Talbot County. Until September 2013, this cottage was listed on VRBO by a previous owner. It received 19 positive reviews for an average of 5 stars.**

One final note...

As you might have noticed, we are lucky enough to be mostly booked these days because of several wonderful renters that have chosen to return to The Roost each year. We hope that you'll remember us and check back often to see if your dates become available - we often have availability in the spring and fall. (We have also hosted shorter-term winter rentals for folks like engineers and dredgers working on Poplar Island and the occasional artist or writer looking for some peaceful solitude!)

Regardless of where you stay, we know you'll enjoy your time on this special island and hope you come back again!

About Owner

My husband and I live and work in the DC area. We both grew up in coastal New England and missed being by the water. We often traveled to the Eastern Shore and during one visit we fell in love with Tilghman Island. After several hotel stays, we decided to rent The Roost, which happened to be for sale... and the rest is history!

Owner purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Owner chose Tilghman Island

Tilghman's is a unique and quiet town surrounded by water. It is one of the last working watermen's villages on the Chesapeake Bay, and the perfect destination for boating, kayaking, fishing, long walks, and exploring nearby towns and villages. Historic St. Michael's, with its great dining and unique shops, is just a 15 minute drive.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the peaceful and convenient location of The Roost. In the mornings we watch the boating activity in Knapps Narrows and the marina from the sun room and living room. We spend our days on or near the water and exploring the area. In the evenings we walk to restaurants by the bridge and enjoy the bay views.

We often drive to St. Michael's or Easton for shopping, museums, and restaurants, but we always look forward to returning to Tilghman's. Our toddler loves visiting the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center just down the street where kids (and adults) can learn about the environment by getting up-close with bay critters.

Relax, rejuvenate....

  • 5 of 5

The Roost is the PERFECT family getaway. The cottage is comfortable, located on a quiet street, well equipped, absolutely delightful! We couldn't have been happier when we opened the door! Felt like home! Luisa was extremely accommodating! As much as we enjoyed the layout of the home...we enjoyed the outdoor area also. Everyone enjoyed the marina (right across the street) and just sitting in the backyard in the adirondack chairs or the hammock, watching the wildlife (lots of bunnies and deer) . We visited the Maritime Museum and took a sunset cruise on the Skipjack with Capt. Wade (must do!) ....don't miss the ice cream at The Tilghman Island General Store. Walking distance to the restaurants also! Enjoyed the Farmers Market in St. Michaels on Saturday morning and found everything needed to cook with in the well-equipped kitchen! We felt blessed to be able to stay at "The Roost"

Wonderful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

The Roost is a wonderful cottage - furnished and equipped perfectly. Spacious, comfortable, comfy beds, sun porch and the all -time best rental house library - I wanted to stay until I'd read all the books - includes Chesapeake histories and photo books, lots of fiction. Heaven. Chicken Point Road is a nice quiet street within easy walking distance to restaurants, the narrows and draw bridge, the Country Store (check out the Friday night wine tastings) and several marinas. The marina across the road from the house -which I was initially hesitant about (traffic) - was a real plus - a combo of local working boats and recreational boats. The Roost is completely modernized, and is fresh and spotlessly clean. Luisa is lovely to work with and goes the extra mile to make sure her guests have a pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

Great Escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Roost during the week of the 4th of July in 2014. The house was spotless, well equipped, and comfortable. We had an issue playing movies, but the owners were quick to help rectify the situation. Unfortunately, we could not seem to fix the problem, but that just gave us more family time together. Watching the bridge was fun as was the small park across the way. We used this as a base to make many day trips to surrounding areas including Baltimore. Our daughter became ill at the end of our trip and we left without leaving a proper review. Due to her extended illness, we also did not thank the owners properly when we received a partial refund for the electronics not working. Should we travel to this area again, we will definitely choose the Roost.
