This unique mother-in-law apartment was renovated with a brand new bathroom and kitchen in the Winter of 2013. The original space was constructed in 1998 and used as a bonus room for friends and family. At the base of the stairs to the apartment is our Desert King fig tree, planted in 2000. Feast on the figs (when they are in season). The Fig Tree Suite lake view apartment has roughly 600 sq ft with an open studio layout, and sits above a garage looking southwest towards Clear Lake and the Olympic Mountains. You may wake to the sound of a crowing rooster. Ravens, hawks and eagles are common sights from the view off of the balcony. Our resident dog and master of affection is Buddy, and he will certainly do his best to get a belly rub from you. Buddy has his own kitty who may appear from time to time. Wifi is available. We have our own laundry room where we can accommodate your light laundry needs. Our location is semi-rural, just 12 minutes from Mount Vernon. This is an ideal location for the outdoor enthusiast with hiking trails and mountain biking trails close by. The location has easy access to the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, Mount Baker, and Skagit River, as well as La Conner, Deception Pass and the San Juan Islands. Located just 70 miles north of Seattle and 50 miles south of the US/Canadian border in the Skagit Valley. There is plenty of shopping and dining to be enjoyed, numerous art galleries and museums, and local festivals throughout the year, such as the Bald Eagle Festival, Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, the Anacortes Arts Festival. Mount Baker Ski Resort is just an hour away. Head to the San Juan Islands via the Washington State Ferry and tour the islands. After a day of activity, come back to the Fig Tree suite, relax, have a sip and enjoy the view.

The Northwest has been home for my husband Tom and I for over 30 years. We are artists by nature, with a great appreciation for the lush beauty and colors that surround our home and property. In his spare time, Tom is an avid backpacker, mountain biker and gardener, and can direct you to some nearby rides and hikes. I am passionate about yoga and can connect you with teachers and local studios in and around the area. In the winter months I enjoy felting, beading, and assorted craft projects. We are excited to have you as our guest, to share the beauty of the Skagit Valley, and perhaps connect with you in your town someday.

A beautiful escape!
I stayed at the Fig Tree Suite for part of my week-long trip to Seattle and the surrounding national parks. July and Tom are extremely warm and welcoming. The suite is very roomy, clean, comfortable, and has all the amenities you could ask for! Sleeping on that bed is like sleeping on a cloud! The view from the deck was stunning to wake up to each morning. I would recommend this suite to anybody visiting the North Cascades region!! I hope to return on another vacation in the future.
Thank you for your review! We enjoyed having you as our guest. Much appreciation for leaving the suite clean and tidy when you checked out. Do let us know if you are ever in the area again. Perhaps your career will land you a position in the Northwest!
Great place to stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had everything we needed, and the view is fantastic! July and Tom are great hosts. We really enjoyed talking to them. We especially enjoyed picking all the fresh fruits they had in their yard. Our blackberry pie was yummy! We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for everything, July and Tom!
Steve and Mary, what a joy to have you as our guests. I enjoyed our conversations, talks about the fruit trees, and life in general. If you are ever up this way again, please give a shout.
a comfy sparkling gem with a view
The pictures don’t do this place justice. Super comfy & good vibes. The art inside and out is impressive and the fruit from the land is delicious. Thank you for sharing, I hope to be back soon.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure having you.
Hope to see you again someday.
Great place! Clean and comfortable. Close to things. Really helpful and friendly hosts.
Wonderful place. Enough room for three people. Wonderful hosts.
Clean, quiet and beautiful view!
This property is easy to find but also nicely tucked away so it's quiet and peaceful. July came right out to greet us, gave us some great restaurant recommendations and showed us the apartment. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, not at all nosy or intrusive. The apartment was clean, comfortable and has a great view of the lake. We would stay here again!
Worth it all
This is the fifth time we've stayed at the Fig Tree and we will do it again. It is well worth the stay; the hosts are so friendly and thoughtful; the view is beautiful and inspiring; the quiet and peaceful surroundings are so relaxing. It's conveniently located close enough to all the sights and activities in the Skagit Valley and yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the freeway. Can't recommend it enough. :-)
Thank you Kathleen, we always look forward to your stay with us. From the first time you booked I had a feeling we'd be seeing you again, and so appreciate that you have chosen our place for your Skagit valley landing. It makes us feel good to know that you can come here, unwind (and leave us drawings), and enjoy the colors of the Valley. You are always welcome at the Fig Tree Suite!
Nestled in the foothills of the Cascades, in a Semi-rural location. Southern view of Clear Lake and public boat launch less than a mile away. It is a small lake, no jet skis permitted, but perfect for smaller motor boats, kayaks, and canoes. The Skagit River is just a few miles away and there are many areas perfect for birdwatching. Bald eagles, trumpeter swans, and geese are abundant in the winter. The Audubon Society has an extensive list of must see sites available. Take the scenic Chuckanut Drive to Bellingham, Taylor's Shellfish, or dine at the Oyster Bar. There are many hikes to enjoy along the way. Tour the town of La conner and check out the Museum of Northwest Art (MONA), gallery shopping, and great restaurants. If you happen to be participating in one of the many local artist workshops or yoga retreats, The Fig Tree Suite is a great place to unwind at the end of your day.
