Warm Cabin lots of snow

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cabin has lots of space very easy to book. The owner Len was very easy going. We had lots of fun with the family. We stayed the last weekend in February and there was lots of snow for the kids to play in, cabin had lots of firewood and a BBQ with propane tank that we used. Just make sure you take snow chains. We will defiantly be going back.

Ponderosa Snow Trip

  • 4 of 5

Had a great time in the snow at the cabin. We had 6 adults and 1 child and had plenty of room for everyone. It was snowing when we arrived and were lucky enough to follow the road plow vehicle to the cabin from the lodge. The cabin was warm and met all our needs. Len allowed us to arrive earlier than the usual check in time due to the snow. Had a great time!

Wonderful roomy house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was roomy and comfortable, complete with large windows to let in the light and a fireplace with plenty of wood on site (firewood is included in the optional internet/cleaning package, which is additional to the advertised rate). Everything was as described, and the house was clean and in great condition when we arrived. The kitchen was well stocked with cookwear and dishes, and the TV/DVD player worked without a hitch. The water was more than hot enough throughout our stay (whatever the issue the previous reviewer had with hot showers had definitely been fixed). The house is up on a hill, so we needed chains to get up the last road and driveway (there had been snow two days earlier, and though it had been plowed it was still somewhat snowy/icy), but the location, higher than the surroundings and off the main roadway, gives you a sense of space and peace as you gaze out across the pine trees, especially from upstairs. When we called Len on the house phone (which is either satellite or internet) for our virtual check-in, he gave us great information about ski/snowshoe trail locations, which we explored over the next few days. It was comforting to know that there was a working phone line in case of an emergency given that there's no cell service up there. We brought our dogs along (there's an additional pet fee), who had a wonderful time as well. The only issue we had was the thermostat in the house, which did not seem to correspond to the house temperature (the house was a bit too too warm, and even turning the thermostat all the way down did not seem to work). That's better than the opposite problem, of course, as it's easily remedied by cracking a window, but we definitely did not want to burn propane for no reason. A few light bulbs were out here and there throughout the house, which we told the owner about when we left. We had a fantastic time hanging out in the house and snowshoeing and skiing on the trails that start near Ponderosa Lodge and will definitely be back.

Perfect cabin for any occasion!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with my family for Thanksgiving and the cabin was beautiful inside and out. Spacious, with plenty of room for more than the 8 people then it says it fits. Cabin is equipped with games, tv that played movies for us, and a fireplace that warms the whole place. Such a cozy place for family and/or friends. Len, the owner has great communication. His fast replies were appreciated. Will definitely be making this annual trip!

Comfy, Cozy and Spacious

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice place to stay, and the owner, Len, was extremely helpful and responsive. We've been to Ponderosa before - when we return, we will come back to this place again.

The living room couches are plush, the fireplace is very warm and stocked with plenty of wood for cool mountain nights, and the high ceilings and huge windows make for splendid views out. Simply, this is a great place to come back home to after a long day of hiking, or just to hang out for a lazy day among the tall trees.

The kitchen had all the tools we needed to prepare our own meals, including a modern cooktop and oven. The grill is a good size, and runs as hot as you want.

The loft more than doubles the available living space - lots of room for the kids to play, and for people to spread out.

We had to make a slight change in our dates relatively close to our arrival date - and Len accommodated us with no hassle whatsoever. He was also very helpful in suggesting some especially good hikes.

Other reviewers complain about the optional extra fees - but they are optional! - And you get a lot of value for what you pay for. We will not hesitate to stay here again.

This property is in the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia Forest. It offers the natural beauty as is found in Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, but without the cars and crowds. The Parks are not a reasonable day-visitation distance away since they are approximate 50 miles further north than Springville, the entry into Sequoia National Monument. Just 2.5 miles from the cabin, is the trailhead for Freeman Creek/Grove, where visitors encounter the first of 800+ Sequoia trees within the first mile of downhill hiking. Other groves are also nearby, along with a climber's and star gazer's paradise Dome Rock, and a climb up nearby Slate Mountain to see rare local wildflowers.
