Vacations at Wolke33 - in the heart of Annaberg-Buchholz
Good luck for!
With this mining greeting, which took place in the 16th Century in the Ore Mountains, we would like to warmly welcome you to the listed building on Wolkensteiner Straße in Annaberg-Buchholz.
The apartment “Wolke 33” is quietly located in the center of Annaberg.
The rooms have been renovated and lovingly furnished.
The “Wolke 33” is on the ground floor in the back part of a Renaissance house, with a view over the valley.
Like many historic houses, this one has also experienced a lot: city fires, conversions and additions, large families, use as an office for the production of trimmings, division into private apartments and businesses.
The Wolkensteiner Straße used to be the development of downtown Annaberg, where many inns were located. Today there are mainly shops for everyday needs: bakery, bookstore, hairdresser, butcher, health food store, sports shop, fashion store, shoe store and the post office.
The view from the apartment is pure idyll: across a large garden, you can see the ruins of the Franciscan monastery and you can enjoy the sunset towards Geyer.
Our family comes from Annaberg and ran a carpentry and furniture factory there. The grandfather, on the other hand, became an academic and moved away for professional reasons. Our family has remained close to home to this day and we feel called to take care of our grandfather's legacy. The grandchildren's generation is dedicated to the historic renovation, a task that will probably never end.
The love for the Ore Mountains does not end, which we would like to share with you.
We look forward to you!
The Wohlgemuth family
Another little note about the region:
The upper Ore Mountains were Century settled by Franconian peasants. When rich silver ore veins were discovered in 1491, Annaberg developed rapidly. In 16. Century was the city with 8,000 inhabitants one of the largest cities in the German-speaking area. Silver mining made Saxony's kings rich. However, the silver mines were soon exploited and the population needed other sources of income, so a wide variety of handicrafts developed that made the Erzgebirge products world-famous in home work and small factories: Christmas decorations made from wood, bobbin lacework, cardboard products such as the Annaberg folding Christmas star.
Big cities have big churches. Annaberg has with the St. Annenkirche one of the largest late Gothic hall churches. From the outside, the church, which can be seen from afar, looks like a castle, inside it is light and filigree. The mountain altar, which depicts the life of the miners on the back, is famous. The tower of St. Annenkirche is still inhabited by a family of towers - the only one in Germany.
Annaberg-Buchholz now offers a diverse range of services to 20,000 residents and tourists. There is the Eduard-von-Winterstein Theater, a wonderful Christmas market with the largest German mountain parade on the 4th Advent, the ski area "Fichtelberg-Oberwiesenthal" is only 20 km away, trips to Chemnitz, Karlsbad or Dresden and Prague are possible and the mining region of the Ore Mountains has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Show mines bring visitors closer to this living environment. The surrounding area invites to hikes, thermal springs to relax and the palaces and castles are popular excursion destinations.
