Perfect for our family
This was a great house and beautiful setting. Lots of room for my extended family of 8. Melissa and Chip were super responsive and helpful before and during our rental. I would recommend this house to anyone looking to spend time in Nashville while staying in a peaceful waterfront setting.
The house and property was amazing!
The house was beautifully decorated and very clean. The view from the porch was breath taking. There was plenty of room for all of us. This was one of the best houses I’ve ever stayed and will definitely be back. The owner Melissa was super friendly and helpful during the stay. 10/10 would recommend.
A Good Work Space Overall - With Some Caveats
We rented this property as a centrally located meeting point for a collaborating research team. We were surprised it was in an average suburban neighborhood with other houses right close by (and noisy neighbors) - the description and photos gave the impression of something more rural. The lake is pretty but nothing special. The house has plenty of sleeping and gathering space, and ample parking, though sleeping options might be better for families than for several adult couples who want more private quarters. The walls are thin and sound travels easily. The gaming space was fun but pool table cramped and basketball game in some disrepair. The main issue for us was that it wasn't especially clean. There were dirty utensils (literally, crusted with food) in the drawers and a burned piece of food still left in the oven. The kitchen is worn out, with an oven that looks original to the 1980s. There were dust bunnies and clumps of hair on the floor in corners. Guests are expected to do quite a bit of the cleaning before departure, so perhaps the dirty kitchen was the previous tenants' fault, but it seems like the cleaners (especially for the hefty fee) should have caught that. We were also a little put off by the instructions to strip the beds of sheets but not blankets/quilts - suggesting these don't get cleaned between guests. The water situation is a little problematic - if anyone flushes a toilet or uses a sink while someone is in the shower, the hot water completely goes out for the person showering (many howls throughout the weekend). The water heater seems too small for the house and is noisy for guests sleeping nearby. One of the downstairs bathroom sinks was almost completely stopped up. Guests should be sure to come stocked with toiletries since only hand soap is available; some small hotel soaps would have been much appreciated for the showers. To be fair, I did not contact the host about any of this, because we could live with all of it for a couple of days but for the nightly cost it seemed like some of these things should have been more in order. However, the host was responsive and helpful while we were arranging our stay, and it was a pleasant experience overall, though I probably would look elsewhere in the future considering the cost-quality-location balance. All in all, and despite these issues, it was still a convenient and enjoyable place to gather.
First let me start by saying we are sorry that our place didn't meet your standards. We strive very hard to provide an exceptional house and experience to all of our guests. Hopefully, as the almost 74 reviews state, we achieve and usually excel in this. I'm still trying to fully understand your in depth review. It ends well stating that you enjoyed your stay and would return but let me try and address some of your issues. I'm most disappointed that you didn't contact us and allow us a chance to alleviate any issues you had. Your first communication with Melissa when you arrived was why hadn't the trees taken their fall color. I hope you realize that we strive to be good but haven't mastered changing the tree color just yet. Hot water heater is a 2 y/o largest available tankless heater available that should deliver endless hot water. We would definitely have had our plumber address any issues had we known but haven't heard anything from any other past guests. We pride ourselves in cleanliness and have had the same maids since our inception. Thats not to say that maybe something was overlooked but we will follow up. Thanks for visiting and I hope your future travels are more to your standards.
Beautiful Lake - Not So Wonderful House or Manager
Our experience with this multi-level rental property and rental manager was mixed at best. The lake is lovely. That said, access is down a long 30-degree slope to a boat dock that houses a boat belonging to a neighbor. The house needs repair and is not suitable for more than six consenting adults. It has three bedrooms, not five. The remaining sleeping accommodations are in open areas and consist of a trundle-bed on a porch, couches, and four beds in a what appears to be a lower-level storage area. Young children might be satisfied, but our family group consisted of ten not-so-satisfied adults. The house water is tempered by a tank-less heater, which is set at 140-degrees (most codes require settings no higher than 120-degrees). When properly maintained, they work great, but this one needed serious attention... It provided shockingly cold water one minute and scalding hot water the next. The refrigerator freezer was iced up solid when we arrived. The WiFi connection is slow and worked intermittently. We found several insects in the house including a lively spider when we turned down the bed covers in the master bedroom. We were led to believe that downtown Nashville was a drive of about thirty minutes. The two trips we made were an hour each way. The public transportation mentioned in the promotional verbiage is a commuter train that only runs twice a day, primarily for workers going into and returning from the city.
Suffice it to say this rental experience was less than wonderful. My primary issue is with the property owner/manager. She refused to return our damage deposit because she claimed we had violated her No Pet rule and had allowed our son's dog on the property. The truth is; the dog was boarded in a local kennel during our complete stay. The dog is elderly and was picked up on 3 occasions to visit the family for no more than 2 hours each time. He stayed in the yard and wasn't allowed to enter the house at any time. The manager claimed otherwise, and kept our deposit. The money isn't the issue. I don't appreciate being mistreated and accused of lying! I'll just say "Renter Beware" and leave it there.
Not much to say here except we have a very strict pet policy for 2 reasons. First, extra maids had to be called to accommodate all of the extra cleaning and hair removal. Second, we occasionally have guests with special needs and enhanced allergies that need assurance that pets haven't been on the property. We love our pets also but leave them at home when we vacation out of respect to property owners. I hope any future guests will read the many other reviews of guests that truly enjoy our wonderful house. We try to go above and beyond for our guests and hope that is conveyed by the many others that have enjoyed. We look forward to serving many future guests and would love to meet your pets( pictures only please). Thanks
Lovely property and great hosts!
We had a wonderful stay, the property is situated in a lovely, quiet cove with lots of bird watching (herons, egrets, etc.) and spectacular views from the large back porch. We celebrated our parents 50th wedding anniversary and the property perfectly accommodated our group. The hosts were super responsive and accommodating and it was very convenient to be able to rent the pontoon boat and access it right from the property's covered dock. Would highly recommend this property!
So glad that you enjoyed the house and were able to celebrate such a wonderful accomplishment. We are also glad we were able to get you a boat and enjoy the water. Hope to see you again soon. Thanks
Perfect location and great owner!
This house was ideal for our family vacation to Old Hickory Lake. The photos and listing were accurate, house was very clean, and provided us with everything we needed. The dock was in amazing shape in a great location on the lake with a quiet, calm cove. The owners were super responsive and helpful with anything we needed before or during our stay. It was honestly perfect for us and we're already planning on staying here again! Would highly recommend this property.
Great to hear you guys liked it so much. Please come again. Thanks
