Private Villa In Horse Ranch Outside Of La Fortuna

Bedrooms 1
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 2 nights

Minimum Stay
2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 3

The villa looks out on horse pastures and misty mountains. Fresh soft breezes cool the generous kitchen/dining area. Lush gardens are all around you, emitting night scents and day scents that leave you smiling. Pick fresh fruit from the citric orchard and squeeze your breakfast juice. All the soft noises of animals -- from toucans to horse hooves, the water buffalo’s soft braying, and the baaa of sheep remind you that you are connected to the earth, the soil, the farm.

You are as quiet and private and isolated as you want. Or wander down to the stables - play with the pets, feed some animals, or watch the horses in training. Horses are available for riding (additional cost). The ATV's are fun, too. And if you wish to see the world from above, we operate the only hot air balloon in Central America.

Turn off your villa lights and walk barefoot from your garden door to the pool after sunset. Or warm up the Jacuzzi. The night sky is spectacular when there is no artificial lights around you. You'd almost believe electricity had not been discovered. You'll discover what we call our 'velvet nights'.

About Esteban Elizondo

Monica and Esteban. We are both Costarrican, originally from Cartago. We moved here escaping from the noise and the fast life of the city. We found paradise and a great place to develop our passion... Horses. We run a horse farm and an adventure company that includes the only Hot Air Ballooning operation in Central America. We strive to give our guests a sense of traditional Costa Rica country hospitality. Our farm has spectacular horses, from fiery stallions to placid draft horses, and our soft stepping Pasofinos. We have an assortment of pets -- from a Dachshund to a water buffalo, and a pet pig that sleeps with the horses, plus several sheep that share dinner with our mares. And our three kids. the heart of our life in our farm. Centaura Farm is a lot like Charlotte's web. Our farm has an old-fashioned soul with very modern ideas of comfort. Our goal is that you leave us with huge regret - and that you will be back soon.

Why Esteban Elizondo chose Alajuela

Our farm is only 20 minutes from Fortuna (the base of fiery Arenal volcano) yet borders on wilderness, rivers and forests where we ride horses and ATV's and hike without the press of tourism. Bird watching and playing in hot springs, swimming in crystalline waters -- all nearby and all private for you. Plus hot springs and belching Arenal volcano only 20 minutes away. It is a great place to raise our family.

What makes this villa unique

Peace, tranquility and the earthiness of a working horse farm. So far away from the crowds and the noise, yet 20 minutes from the tourist Mecca of Fortuna, and Arenal volcano.

Excellent beginning to our honeymoon !

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in one of the one bedroom villas and it was great ! The bed was huge and pretty comfortable ! The kitchen is separate from the bedroom and bathroom and the air conditioner doesn't cool the kitchen. The hammock was a nice touch and the table overlooking the beautiful flowers and pasture was fantastic !

We also were able to enjoy the full day horseback ride as well as the ATV ride to the hot springs ! Both were excellent ! Danny was our guide for both and we couldn't have been more pleased with him ! He was a joy to have as a part of our honeymoon stay. My wife fell in love with the chocolate lab Meelo and the huge wiener dog Hitana. The area had plenty to choose from for food. And we loved that it wasn't a large tourist area. Esteban was an excellent host and we only wish we could have had the chance to go up with him in a hot air balloon ! We felt very secure while there and never had a single worry !!

This was the perfect beginning to our adventurous honeymoon!!

A True Paradise

  • 5 of 5

10 stars! These beautiful villas are located close enough to town to make shopping and adventures convenient, but far enough away to give you a piece of paradise all to yourself! This is so much more than a VRBO! Our unit was perfect- all the modern amenities you need, in the middle of a lush jungle. Esteban, the owner, was so helpful from the early stages of our trip planning. He gave us great tips and took care of organizing all the activities we wanted to do! The owners dogs come visit and you end up feeling a part of the the community at la finca! Danny, one of the guides there, became a friend over the week we stayed there! He picked us up from the airport and was our private guide for two full days of ATV riding, hot springs, and horse back riding. Those are must- do activities while staying here! Through all of my traveling, those two days will always be some of the most memorable! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone looking to experience and love Costa Rica- pura vida!

1st class accommodations

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stop on a 8 day trip. We arrived late in the evening after an adventurous drive from San Jose. Upon arrival we were greeted by Danny who showed us our Villa. We were blown away!! The bedroom, bathroom, patio, and kitchen were all very clean and welcoming. 1st class accommodations / 5 star quality. Morning coffee on the porch overlooked breathtaking scenery and of course our first visitors, Milo and Gitana, the owners pups, who made us feel like we were at home with lots of morning belly rubs and licks.

The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. We went on two days of adventures. Horse back riding, atv's, and hanging bridges all with the help of Esteban and his staff. They can help you set up everything!!! Antonio and Marco took us horseback riding and on the atv's. Antonio's continuous smile at how much fun we were having made it that much more enjoyable. Marco was a wealth of knowledge and helped us with the language barrier.

Everything was on the ranch or a 35 min drive away. Don't forget to walk the grounds, check out the stables, horses and of course, the 2 lazy, fat pigs.

Esteban, the owner, is very kind, sociable, and easy to work with. His goal is to create a indescribable feeling for his guests.

If we could give it 5 + stars, we would. We can't wait to come back for more fun!!!

Gorgeous villa on horse ranch

  • 5 of 5

We loved this villa from the moment we arrived. It is so light and open, with huge glass doors in the lounge room looking out over your own private garden and the mountains beyond. The villa was very spacious and well appointed, we ended up staying an extra night because we loved it. The whole property is great, with a nice pool, horse stables and pretty gardens. We went horseriding with our kids and our guide Danny was great, making us all feel comfortable (even the 5 and 3 year old). We also went on the ATVs and although the weather wasn't great we still had a good time. The hot springs they take you too are awesome, in the middle of the rainforest and we were the only ones there! Perfect!

Lastly Esteban the owner was amazing! So helpful with everything, organising our tours and even helping us with car rental for our whole 2 weeks in Costa Rica (at a cheaper price than if we went direct). He is so friendly and made our experience wonderful. Highly recommend this place!

La Finca

  • 5 of 5

You will not regret your vacation staying at the villas. Esteban and Danny are always a phone call away to answer any questions and give you the best places to go. The atv tour to volcano fed hot springs and horse tours around the ranch were the best. This a great place to stay as your base for La Fortuna. Definitely recommend.

Amazing Place

  • 5 of 5

This review is late as i totally forgot to do one! Recently someone asked me where they should stay in Costa Rica and I had no hesitation to say Esteban's.

The ranch is as good as all the reviews say. We had nothing but amazing service from our first contact with Esteban until we left. He answered my many questions and supported us with our activities. We booked (through Esteban) zip lining, rafting and the best was the ATV hot spring tour on his property! This tour out did any tour we did in all of Costa Rica. The hot springs were very private and the travel to and from we saw the country side. We also booked the car rental through Esteban and it was the best deal we could find.

The villas reminded me of the quality of the four seasons but better because you had privacy and luxury. The way the villas are situated allows for you to really see no one. They were immaculate and the beds comfortable. Lying in the hammock looking over the ranch was a highlight. We had the pool to ourselves and saw the occasional guest or staff person on the property. We loved it so much we extended our stay. The villas is not right in la fortuna (it is about 1/2 hour away) but we did not want to stay in a busy tourist town and after going there on a day trip to zip line I feel we chose the best place in the area to stay.

We spent a month in Costa Rica and nowhere came close to the ranch for experience. In fact we travel a lot and what is offered at the ranch is a real traveller’s gem.

Thank you Esteban and your team!
