About the property

Private, King bed with bath and living room/kitchenette.

We have two rental suites (see VRBO listing #507165 for Lanai rental). 'The Lookout' is a beautifully decorated 464 sq ft. suite with a private entry, lanai, living room, kitchenette, and bathroom. Common areas include an outdoor kitchen with small oven/stovetop, and gas grill. We invested in your comfort with a king sleep number bed. The Lookout has a small lanai with stunning views of the sunset and the garden. Setting is a lush acre of flowers, avocados, kona coffee, papayas, bananas, and citrus. We are happy to share our bounty when available. Drive a few minutes to spend the day snorkeling and enjoying the tropical settings of Honaunau or Kealakekua Bay. Private massage in your suite is available with advanced notice (additional charge).

Snorkel equipment is available to borrow. We are owner occupied and happy to advise you regarding activities, restaurants, or other big island sights.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our slice of paradise.

About Tina Snapp and Keri Jones

On site management by Tina and Keri a nurse and veterinarian who moved to the Big Island from Colorado. We fell in love with the island over 18 years ago and finally made moving here a reality in 2012. We love to travel and have taken that knowleged to create accomdations that are comfortable and have all you need to relax and enjoy your stay.

Tina Snapp and Keri Jones purchased this house in 2012

Why Tina Snapp and Keri Jones chose Captain Cook

We wanted to live in a slightly rural area, where we could have some land and raise fruits and vegetables. After many years in the big city, we wanted the slower relaxed pace that the Captain Cook provides.

What makes this house unique

The sunset views from the deck are beautiful. We love to snorkel and the best on the island is a few minutes away.

Is there a six star?

Amazing view to begin with. Tina is a super host- beyond words. She is so helpful, resourceful and organized it takes any worry or doubt out of your stay or trip... and the homemade muffins and abundance of fresh fruit she entices you to try from her own property just puts it over the top! The hideout is ideal as you are away from the hustle of Kona but close enough to enjoy when you need it. It’s perfect... it really is a little slice of paradise. We are so appreciative and of course we wish we had more time. How the heck do you get on a plane back to reality after this?

More wonderful than you can imagine!

  • 5 of 5

The Lookout at South Kona Hideaway felt like our home for 6 glorious days! Having arrived on the Big Island on the day of the largest explosion from Kīlauea Volcano, we were worried about our decision to be there and whether the vog would be a problem. We needn’t have worried at all. Yes, there is vog on that part of the island but it’s not a big deal. South Kona is so lush and beautiful and down to earth. It has the beautiful Kealakekua Bay for amazing snorkeling, fantastic coffee farms and shops (make sure you go to the Coffee Shack!), and a fun farmers market with local music and artists. If you want to explore other parts of the island, Captain Cook is a great place to base yourself.

Then - the best part - is staying with Tina and Keri! They’re so kind and relaxed and have done everything to create a comfortable place for their visitors. The Lookout was just the right size for us and has a wonderful view of the bay below as well as the surrounding acreage of fruit and coffee trees. The kitchen is simple but well-equipped and there is everything you need for a day at the beach. All of this pales in comparison to the truly amazing breakfasts that Tina and Keri will bring you each morning: from warm pineapple and macadamia nut muffins to baked passion fruit pudding, always accompanied by great fruit from their land.

Does it get any better than this? We don’t think so and would return in a heartbeat given the chance!

Mahalo, Tina and Keri!

We loved our stay here. The place has everything you might need. The bed was comfortable and you can't beat the view from the lanai. The hosts are incredibly thoughtful, and brought homemade breakfast to us every morning!

Great location, Ohana and host

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. Keri made us feel very much at home and provided great information about what to see and do in the Capt. Cook and Kona areas. The ohana is very well appointed and maintained, the views are wonderful and the muffins very tasty.

Awesome place!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay from feb. 25th-mar 3rd.

Tina was brought us the most delicious locally grown fruit platters daily. Her homemade muffins were excellent and were huge! It was impossible to eat the whole muffin in one sitting but they were perfect for picnics on the beach.

The place was clean, quiet, and close to the most beaches.

We'd definitely stay there again when we go back to Big Island.
