About Donna Brannan

Don, born and raised in Colorado married Donna, a New York Native over 30 years ago. Don has enjoyed the cabin since childhood, hiking, biking, skiing, hunting, fishing, mountain climbing and exploring with his parents. We found a trail behind the cabin where a covered wagon had once tipped over. To this day old glass bottles can still be dug up at this site. The trail opens to a large meadow and bubbling stream.

Donna Brannan purchased this cabin in 1965

Why Donna Brannan chose Black Hawk

A family jewell passed on, now for others to enjoy as well, Colorado history abounds the area. It is near Peak to Peak highway which has the most beautiful sights available on the front range

What makes this cabin unique

A huge plus is the the back door leads onto Roosevelt National Forest. Hiking & mountain biking trails are feet away to springs and nearby river. Wildlife prevails in the area: moose, dear and elk are common. Ghost towns surround the area, and are a short drive away.

Perfect quiet spot!

I just spent a few days here with my dogs and it was lovely. Great updated home with comfy beds, usable kitchen, and miles of trails right out the back door.

Great family get away!

  • 4 of 5

Good place away from the normal routine. Snowshoeing and hiking were awesome. It wasn't quite as private as othr reviews mentioned, but it was very nice. Kitchen was well equipped. Owners were great to work with. There are bears.... They made off with the trash bin. (We found it about 1/2 mile away.) Kids and dogs loved being out in the woods. Roy's Last Shot has great food and entertaining atmosphere. Sun porch gets very warm mid-day and super chilly when it snows. Even still, it is the perfect place to hang out in the morning with your coffee. Linens are provided and are softer than any hotel. Kids loved the games and other activities provided. Wood-burning fireplace keeps everything super warm. Star-gazing aS absolutely beautiful. Plan at least 3-4 days, just to fit everything in that you will want to do. We would definitely stay again.

Cozy cabin close to great hiking and cafes...

  • 4 of 5

A nicely updated cozy cabin with comfortable beds. We cooked in the well equipped kitchen for most breakfasts and dinners as we spent most of our days hiking. The owners responded to questions within 24 hours. It is close to Golden Gate Canayon where we enjoyed a couple hikes and saw moose. As others have said, close to Nederland, Boulder or great hiking, one of our favorites being in the Brainard Lake Recreation area. Also a nice drive to Estes. We would recommend this cabin.

Very accommodating and comfy! Everything you could possibly need.

  • 5 of 5

Donna was such a helpful and gracious host. So many nearby attractions. We enjoyed a day in Estes Park, another spent in nearby Nederland and of course the state and national parks! Couldn't have asked for a more relaxing place to stay at the end of an adventure filled day!
