Overview

About the property

A Unique Place To Experience The Best Of The Hudson Valley.

The Farm Cottage is a restored 18c farm house nestled in the outlying pastures of Kinderhook Farm. Enjoy a private retreat surrounded by our grazing cattle and sheep, wild turkeys, foxes, Red Tailed Hawks, Barn Owls and an occasional Bald Eagle.

Please note that The Cottage is not The FarmStay - see listing # 342648 - which is an open sided red barn in the central area of Kinderhook Farm and is available late May through early October only. However, selective farm activities can still be enjoyed by conferring with farmers, Lee & Georgia, when you arrive.

Our kitchen is fully equipped to rustle up a delicious farm meal. We stock a variety of dried herbs and spices. In the warm months an outdoor herb garden is at hand and a barbecue is ready for grilling up some grass fed beef.

During the colder months, enjoy a meal by the fire with unobstructed field views through french doors. Either season our sunsets are spectacular displays of violets, pinks, golds, and soft greens.

The hub of Kinderhook Farm is in walking distance.

If you're traveling with young children we can provide you with a portable crib and linens, highchair, baby pool, kiddie bike and jogging stroller. We've also stocked up on board games and books for young and old. You'll find croquet, badminton and horseshoes available. Local tennis courts abound and there exists a secret swimming hole on the farm only available for FarmStayers and Cottagers.

Those who have experienced Kinderhook FarmStay know the unique excitement and beauty of living on the farm. The Farm Cottage is in response to those who have been interested in an extended opportunity - a stay that's available all year round.

In the fall, Columbia County is a painter's palette of color. Crisp weather is perfect for hiking, shopping and dining in Hudson or the Berkshires. Winter is beautiful, often snowy - and nothing better than having breakfast next to a cozy wood fire with a view of rolling pastures. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing is outside your door. Spring is seductive as flowers and trees emerge in soft yellow greens and lambing goes full tilt at the farm. Early summer is the beginning of the busiest time at the farm and in the Hudson Valley and things don't slow down until mid December.

The entire cottage is light filled. The first floor consists of a small entry way, living room, small sitting room/bedroom, bathroom, a kitchen/dining area with wood burning fireplace, and pantry/laundry room, Both the living room and kitchen have french doors leading out to a wrap around bluestone patio.

The master bedroom is upstairs as well as a bedroom with twin beds. There's plenty of storage.

Air conditioning and heat are included as is WiFi and cable television.

About Please check availability and book online

Renee and Steve are owners of Kinderhook Farm. Renee is an artist who shows at John Davis Gallery in Hudson, NY and is a tennis enthusiast. Steve manages money, the farm, and loves aviation, sailing, motorcycles and tractors. They share 5 children and one grandchild.

Please check availability and book online purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Please check availability and book online chose Hudson Valley

Renee redid this old cottage shortly before their main house up the road went through a major renovation which lasted two years.

Both Steve and Renee loved their time in the cottage where they often entertained lots of family and friends yet on cold winter mornings looked forward to coffee and breakfast sitting next to the kitchen fire.

The cottage was rented for several years and then accommodated extra weekend guests.

Renee decided to rent the cottage on a weekly basis when requests for Kinderhook FarmStay indicated that a lot of people might enjoy a farm stay year round and that the cottage could include more people in the farm experience.

What makes this cottage unique

Kinderhook Farm Cottage is an opportunity to experience life at Kinderhook Farm all year long as well as an opportunity to enjoy the vast number of attractions offered by Columbia County - the galleries, restaurants, shops, farmers markets, music and theater venues as well as a plethora of outdoor activities such as kayaking, skiing, tennis, birdwatching or just relaxing in a hammock under the radar.

Don't stay here

  • 5 of 5

Because if you do I'll have less opportunity to come back. The house is wonderful - and is a great fit for a couple or a family of four. Pleasant hosts who've thought of even the smallest creature comforts. And best for a family - well knit into the local farming community so farm fresh food is right around the corner as well as engaging farm tours. Keep an eye out for the neighborhood fox and her kits. IF you want a night out - the trendy strip in Hudson is only 15 minutes away.

Charming cottage with all the essential amenities and more.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is lovely and conveniently located near many places of interest. It offers toddler essentials like a pack-n-play and a high chair as well as entertainment and outdoor space. The pantry is well stocked but it's also very close to good restaurants, farms, convenient stores, and many places of activity.

Wonderful Milestone Birthday Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my wife's 65th birthday with our three grown children and had the most wonderful weekend at the cottage. Beautiful location and setting in and among the cattle ranch with the herd of cattle just a hundred yards off in the distance. Ghent and the surrounding Hudson River Valley region is beautiful and left us with plenty of options for food, art galleries, historic sites, and just taking a leisurely drive. The cottage is very cute and has all the amenities we needed. We had dinner in both nights, and the cottage had everything we needed, including a large rack of spices, coffee, and other incidentals. Be sure to check out the Kinderhook Farm store where beef, lamb, pork, chicken - all free-range and grass fed is available for purchase. By all means, this was a great find!

Enchanting cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stepped back in time to a simpler life.

When we arrived , it was decided not to go out for dinner.

The kitchen is fabulous, with a fireplace, up to date appliances & gas grill.

We got a perfect steak from the farm shop and veggies just down the road.

The furnishings are beautifully chosen for the period & the house is warm & inviting.

We will certainly return for a longer stay next time.

This house is exceptional. We found that the house was very well maintained and clean. Simple things that actually improve your stay like clean linens, well stocked kitchen - with all the utensils you need and firewood. We look forward to going back in the summer.

Cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this well appointed cottage. The property is perfect for a family of four or five. There are three bedrooms (two upstairs and one off the living room) with very comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals and the the wood burning fireplace which was ideal during the cold January nights. We also appreciated being able to bring our dog who enjoyed laying by the fire at night.
