About the property

1 Bedroom, Full Size Sleep Sofa, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps up to 4

IMPORTANT UPDATE... effective April 12, 2016 -- The road to our property has been re-graded and can handle smaller vehicles. This is good news for those renting compact and economy vehicles.

As you enter our property, you are immediately overcome with a sense of tranquility that words cannot describe. Further along, you are swept away into a world of beautiful flora, fauna and wildlife.

Our Blue Butterfly Cottage is perfect for one or two persons that appreciate a clean, cozy and comfortable abode. Ideal for the independent traveler that enjoys privacy.

The front veranda is great for early morning conversations with the local monkeys, hummingbirds and toucans. With a built-in table, you can commune with nature while sipping your favorite morning, afternoon or evening beverage.

The cottage has a sleeping loft with a full size bed, The living area has a full size sleep sofa, the kitchen is fully equipped with a gas oven/stove, full size refrigerator, double sink, tankless gas hot water heater, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, dishes and utensils. There is a small living area with a 22' flat screen TV with a built-in DVD player --- TV for movies only/ No standard, cable or satellite TV. There is a small eat-in area off the living area and there is a full bath with a large shower.

Please note: If you are planning to rent a vehicle, make sure it has high clearance. 4X4 is not really necessary but something with high clearance is... something like a mini-SUV or larger. We strongly recommend something larger than a compact or economy car. Although the roads are safe, they can be bumpy especially after rainy season and the road to our property is not paved.

"Fantastic Property!"

We spent a total of 4 weeks in Costa Rica...one of those weeks at the "Butterfly Cottage". The property was relatively easy to find, as the property manager Henry showed us the way! We enjoyed many features of the property...The solitude, the howler monkeys, the toucans, the ducks, the fruits we were able to pick, the flowers and of course the butterflies!

The cabin was equipped with all we needed for cooking and the full sized fridge a bonus! We were close enough to town that if we didn't feel like cooking, we had many restaurants to choose from. Moya's Restaurant being our favorite!

The grocery stores carried all what we needed and there was this small store that carried only produce...and some yummy produce it was!

Overall, our experience in Costa Rica was absolutely Fantastic!!

We are already planning another trip back...maybe with the rest of the family!!

Mega Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Butterfly cottage on our 3 week trip to Costa Rica. We absolutely LOVED the Nuevo Arenal. The area was wrapped with beautiful trees, toucans, birds which we had never seen before and being able to open the door and enjoy the cool temperatures, breathtaking. We loved the fact that we could take a short drive to town and have lunch or visit the local grocery store to take food back to the Cottage to fix our own meals. We also walked the property to check out the flowers and swimming pool.

We will be back and probably to stay, FOREVER. Thank you for Henry who assisted us at the property and Jason, whom I believed brought us fresh bananas, picked from a tree on the property.

Gracious and see you next year. :)

Great quiet little cabina

  • 5 of 5

This cabina was perfect for the two of us. Clean, quiet, and the land is beautiful. The groundskeepers are always around if you need help with anything, and Bret was responsive to any questions by email. We didn't want to leave!

Remote and Clean

  • 4 of 5

Stayed 5 days. The cottage was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The only draw back is the road in. We traveled it 14 times. It's fun the first time, but wares on you afterwards.

Owner's Response: Finally had the road re-graded. It is so much better now. Also upgraded a few things in the casita to make it more comfortable.. Thanks, Bret

Cute cottage - snug and comfy

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is nice and clean and equipped with everything you need to support your stay for the week. The surrounding property is beautiful - we walked the grounds our last day there and were incredibly impressed by the views of prospective lots. That said, the road leading to the property is incredibly difficult to navigate. Thankfully Bret highly recommended renting a 4 wheel drive vehicle, which I did, and am sincerely grateful for the advice! Although locals made it up and down the road in conventional cars, I couldn't imagine doing so. Unpaved roads off the main roads seem to be the norm, so if you're looking for a house to rent, you may be in a similar situation regardless. I can only say that I would not return to this particular location until the 2 miles stretch of road leading to it is paved.

65 acres to ourselves

  • 3 of 5

Loved the land that the property was on. We had a wonderful time wandering up to the viewpoints and finding the tapia footprints. But, the property itself was cramped, especially the bed space. The bed was hemmed in on three sides. The kitchen looked as if it had been equipped from the left overs from a charity shop - forks so poor they could bend, no sharp knives to cut veg etc with, a bad selection of pans to cook with, one wine glass and one mug.

Owner's Response: Our kitchen is fully equipped with a brand new microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender and a few new pans (two of which are cast iron) and baking sheets... a relatively new mid-sized fridge/freezer and a four burner gas stove/oven. We do keep several sharp knives and keep at least four coffee mags on hand with plenty of glasses. We even keep enough eating utensils for four to six even though the cottage is for two. Unless the previous guests had broken some items and they were replaced after your visit, this is the only explanation we can think of. We are sorry you were not pleased, we wish you would have said something to our property manager so he could have remedied some of this immediately since we keep extra items in the man house.
