About Bud and Sandy Hutchinson

Bud and Sandy Hutchinson. We have 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren, and are the happy owners of a Miniature Schnauzer named Otto. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with guests.

Bud and Sandy Hutchinson purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Bud and Sandy Hutchinson chose Cherry Log

We had been coming to the North Georgia Mountains for a few years before we simply had to purchase a cabin of our own. With 3 levels (each level having a bedroom and bath), game room, decks, and fire pit; there is enough room for our family to relax and wind down after an exciting day enjoying the area.

What makes this cabin unique

Located in the Aska Adventure Area, this property offers all the excitement the mountains have to offer. Horse back riding, Kayaking, tubing, zip-lining, mountaineering, shopping, hiking, trout fishing, train rides, waterfalls, ice skating, apple orchards, vineyards, restaurants, etc... We enjoy sitting on the deck taking in the quiet serenity and beauty of the mountains.

Cabin was great but for ...

  • 3 of 5

Overall the cabin was beautiful inside, it needs blinds on the windows, at night you felt a bit on display should someone be outside moving around. I had to block windows with towels and blanket. The view was less than desirable with the neighbors below you basically had a junkyard. The cabin inside was well decorated and very comfortable although the basement level where pool table was didn't warm well.

Owner's Response: Hello Randy K., We thank you for choosing Black Oaks Lodge. Our goal is for a 5 star rating and the very best in our guests' experience, every time, so this is very alarming to us. We are sorry you felt uncomfortable with no blinds, however, that is only in the common areas. All the bedrooms, bathrooms as well as the basement den have wooden blinds on the windows. Blocking out the beautiful mountain views would take away from the complete mountain experience. We are sure that, given the season you stayed at the cabin, it was quite cold outside. The cabin is equipped with central heat and A/C system but if you were relying totally on the fireplace to heat the cabin, it would be insufficient to heat the basement since the fireplace is located on the level above. For this reason, we supply the basement area with 2 supplemental electric heaters. Our property is located on a wooded lot and it gives privacy and being at the end of a road you are somewhat tucked away. The singular private residence you mentioned, located on the road below the cabin, is only partly visible in the winter when the foliage is off the trees and in a matter of another winter season, will be blocked year round due to an evergreen screen planted a few years ago. Bud and Sandy Hutchinson

Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin with us we enjoyed it very much! We had a lovely visit and even with the rain and cold weather enjoyed everything the area had to offer. The huge wrap around decking, the hot tub, 3 floors nicely decorated it was all wonderful!

We highly recommend this rental. We would love to come back! Thanks again,

(love the staged dining table, and the 11:00 check out time gave us lots of time to pack up)

We spent Thanksgiving week at the cabin and wished we could have stayed longer! The cabin was perfect with EVERYTHING you could possibly need! Basement was awesome for our boys to hang out and play pool and hot tub and fire pit were fabulous after all our long hikes! Toccoa river and swinging bridge close by. Well worth a visit! Beautifully decorated for the holidays and so warm and inviting! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!!

Best get-away ever!!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this cabin! It was just what I was looking for- rustic, surrounded by woods, wild life (woke up to deer out of the kitchen window one morning!), and the most beautiful scenery! It was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday- beautiful fall foliage in a cozy place with those I am closest with and love! We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant not far from the cabin. There were so many beautiful shops in downtown Blue Ridge with lots of delicious food. We also took the train ride to McCaysville/Copperhill- wonderful memories were made! We cannot rave enough about scenic Blue Ridge and the amazing Black Oaks Lodge! There's no doubt we will be staying here again!
