There are restaurants on the Island - Lucy Bells, Marshside Mama's, and the Daufuskie Crab Company.
To access the island from the mainland:
The new Daufuskie Island Ferry Service runs from Buckingham Landing (35 Fording Island Road Exd, Hilton Head 29926) to and from Daufuskie Island. Rates are reasonable and reliable service on a fixed schedule and children 5 and under are free. See http://www.DaufuskieIslandFerry.com for details.
There is a small general store on the back side of the island for essentials, however it is recommended that you bring most of your food from the mainland or order grocery delivery.
There is a wonderful chapel on the island that holds interdenominational services each Sunday.
There are various activities throughout the year including farmer's markets, oyster roasts, 4th of July celebrations, and New Year's eve parties. Horse back riding is available for all ages. Visit the Bloody Point Lighthouse museum in our back yard. Or tour the Daufuskie Island rum distillery. And it is hightly recommended to take an afternoon for a self guided island tour via golf carts. As part of your welcome package a tour map is provided.
The biggest treasure on the island is probably the beach. It is a 3 mile pristine expanse of sand, water, shells, and wildlife. Don't worry about finding a place to sit - the beach is never crowded and often you may be the only one on the beach. Enjoy swimming, surf fishing, watching the wildlife, or collecting shells. Watch for playful dolphins. Search for Civil War and Indian relics, as was shown when Daufuskie was featured on the National Geographic channel. Learn about the Gullah culture and cooking at the local museum.

About Terry & Chris
Terry and Chris King live in the Washington DC area and have been married for 45 years. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. We both have recently retired and love spending time on Daufuskie.
Terry & Chris purchased this Condo in 2005
Why Terry & Chris chose Daufuskie Island
Daufuskie Island is a respite from the hectic lifestyle of DC. The whole King family, including our large extended family (13 siblings and families), has fallen in love with the island. After vacationing on Hilton Head for many years, we decided to explore Daufuskie and were attracted to this non-commercial, no traffic, open spaces and eco friendly heaven.
What makes this Condo unique
The view from the condo at Sandy Lane is breathtaking. We had stayed at oceanfront resorts previously but in addition to the ocean, we usually saw lots of towels, vendors, and crowds of people. The focus here is the beautiful ocean. We also fell in love with the island hospitality. It's different here than on Hilton Head. People remember you and you know the same staff year after year - the restaurant workers, the ferry drivers, the resort staff. Plus, Daufuskie is the setting for the classic book 'The Water is Wide' by Pat Conroy, which was always one of my favorites. The Gullah history of the island is very interesting and you feel so close to it here. You won't find a crowded boardwalk, or lots of noise, or traffic. You feel very close to nature with the ocean and the trees. Most of the Island is wooded. Seeing the stars on a clear night is truly spectacular. Where can you see not only the popular constellations, but also the Milky Way? Make sure to install the stargazing app on your phone or tablet. Our grandchildren never consider turning on the TV when they are in Daufuskie. Between the beach, the pool, horseback riding, and going for ice cream, they keep everyone hopping. Our teenagers and young adults love jogging on the beach, playing tennis, going on golf cart expeditions, and spending time at nights at the local restaurants to listen to the bands. When you spend a week on Daufuskie, you feel like you've had a vacation from the hustle and bustle of the fast world. The typical first time vacationer to Daufuskie usually leaves wondering why they didn't know about it earlier and look forward to returning.

Family memories on the Island
Beautiful home - loved the hardwood floors, the spacious porch - even though the temps were in the 40s our whole stay, we made great family memories traveling to dinner on the golf cart and enjoying lunch in the beautiful sunshine on the porch. I’d LOVE to come again I the summertime ❤️
Thanks for the kind words. We loved having you.

Beautiful beachfront condo!
Our family had a great time on Daufuskie island. It was a perfect peaceful getaway. The lovely condo was very comfortable, and in a perfect location, right on the beach! We hope to return soon.
Home was very clean and offered beautiful views. However, due to previous weather issues, the elevator did not work so our calves got a good workout. The pool was also closed.
The condo is located on beautiful and secluded Daufuskie Island. Access to the island via passenger ferry- no cars. Most visitors get around via bicycles and golf carts.
Our condo is located right on the serene 3 mile uncrowded beach. It's perfect for families with children, joggers and walkers, shell collectors and beach lovers in general. Ride your golf cart around the island to find Civil War ruins, Indian artifacts and explore local museums and historical landmarks. Visit the quaint artisan shops for jewelry, rustic sculptures, pottery, and t-shirts. Play golf and tennis at the Blood Point Resort with full membership privileges ($29 for 18 holes per golfer for 2 golfers). Stargaze at night from the balcony of the condo while listening to the ocean waves, away from city lights and noise. Swim in the well-maintained pool or cook on the poolside grills. If you can manage to leave the glorious island, take the water taxi to enjoy a day of sightseeing or shopping in Savannah.
