Beautiful outdoor area, it was perfect for our 2 dogs and well maintained
Nothing extra indoors. Very uncomfortable futon, hard to relax, the bed was noisy, too soft and with 2 people laying in it you rolled into the center. For the price, not we’ll stocked at all, we had to buy our own paper towels and laundry soap. The refrigerator accumulated water on back top shelf and not well stocked with larger cups/glasses. The handle to the oven was broken and very difficult to use it. The owners are very nice as well as their 2 dogs. Again, the outdoors was the best!
Super cute, quiet, and clean little cottage
My 3 dogs and I really enjoyed our time at the Mardi Gras cottage. First, it is super clean and very quiet. I am a single female traveling with 3 small dogs (all dachshunds) and I felt completely safe so for those of you who might be tentative about the "9th Ward" designation, I even went out to walk my dogs after midnight and at 5 AM with no issues. As with any place especially when one is not from the area, be smart and vigilant but truly, this goes for anywhere even when in one's own neighborhood. In fact, we felt so comfortable here that we stayed an extra day so we could go check out the LSU Botanical Garden and Burbank Park in Baton Rouge which are dog-friendly. Other dog-friendly activities worth exploring are the Bonnabel Boat Launch dog park in Metairie and Inshore Rip Charter in St. Bernard. Ask for Captain Ed or Captain Elliott; my 3 little guys and I had an awesome time with Captain Elliott and caught 5 fish, including one that weighed over 15 lbs.
The cottage is conveniently located, within a short drive to the French Quarter however, if you are looking for a place that is away from tourist traps but still has lots of interesting things to do, Arabi is a cool spot with lots of restaurants (e.g., The Kitchen Table, Rocky and Carlo's with their enormous portion sizes, and Palms, Too casino restaurant). Be sure to visit Algiers Point for a self-guided walking tour of historic homes and beautiful architecture.
Michael and Miranda are also wonderful hosts, super responsive and accommodating. They have stocked the cottage with lots of helpful guides and suggestions on restaurants and activities. Thank you Michael and Miranda for letting us stay the extra day :D.
Very nice well maintained cottage
Loved staying here for jazz fest. Great yard and the cottage had everything we needed
Pros and Cons: We enjoyed our stay.
Cons: You have to share the pool and patio area with four other rental unit. This was never brought to our attention when talking about renting. I even mentioned that my husband has a prosthetic leg and how much he as going to enjoy the privacy of having a private pool! Other smaller things are that the bathroom is in the bedroom, which was okay as we had a child with us, but would be awkward for two couples. There are only two stools to sit at so one of us stood while eating and the only other place to sit was the futon. Not comfortable to watch a movie or trying to relax, we did bring in a chair from the patio which helped.
Pros: Very nice location, decor is cute, unit is clean. A big plus is that there is a washer and dryer and some necessities in cottage, paper towels, coffee, salt, pepper, garbage bags, etc. Miranda was very nice and they have two friendly dogs😊
Perfect place for us and our little dog
We chose this place because it looked quiet and had a yard for our little dog, who is not a great traveler. It exceeded our expectations. It was a true respite from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans.
My only suggestion would be add some larger coffee cups and bowls. And maybe hanging hooks or bars in the bathroom.
Exactly As Advertised
This was our first experience staying in a VRBO. We found this cottage exactly as advertised, reservation request handled expeditiously, and thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay. It was a very easy drive into and out of New Orleans each day where we parked at the Basin Street Visitor Center (just $5 per day) and bought a three-day tour bus pass ($49 per person) which got us around the rest of the city and attractions we wanted to see. The VRBO hosts had lots of good tourist information and brochures in the rental. We were on an extended trip that included these four days, so having an in-rental washer and dryer was a godsend. Having a full kitchen with a large frig allowed us to take some of the big lunches we couldn't manage to finish home and make them our dinner several nights. The VRBO hosts were very gracious and nice to accommodate us after we almost settled in to the wrong unit on arrival. There are three or four VRBO units in this residential complex, so be careful on arrival to be sure you are at the correct unit! Also you can ignore the "Beware of the Dog" sign at the entry gate which threw us off a bit at first. The owners were carefully maintaining the pool even though the weather was a little cool, so I couldn't resist and took several bracing dips in the late afternoon when we returned from our touring. I can't recommend this property more highly, much more homey and a very reasonable price alternative compared to the New Orleans city hotels with their institutional feel, high rates and outrageous nightly parking fees.
