This open designed Maine camp is on the lakeshore of David Pond. This private pond connects via a small stream to Parker Pond, but it is mostly undeveloped. David Pond has very few motorized watercraft and lends itself more to a quiet serene paddle of a kayak or canoe.
The kitchen is newly built with granite counter tops and custom made birch and cherry cabinetry. Modern amenities include microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Counter space includes a large island with a cutting board counter top for easy meal preparation.
The living room is an open concept to the kitchen with a small dining table. From the living room you can see the water through the trees beyond the full length porch. There is a CD player and board games in the living room. The loft houses the TV with a DVD player.
The bathroom is recently upgraded with again fine cabinetry. A shower and plenty of towels are available for use.
The master bedroom offers the comforts of home with a double bed, bureau and closet space. The second bedroom has bunk beds for the kid in all of us.
The loft space is made for someone appreciating an open concept. The half railing is designed to look like a bridge span in keeping with the same presentation on the porch railing. The loft has a double bed and full couch that can be opened for two additional people if needed.
An open porch with roof sits high above the ground making for a beautiful view and an incredibly peaceful space. You can look out to see large hemlock and oak trees that lead to the waterfront. A propane barbeque grill is available for use. There are chairs with side table and lamp for quiet appreciation of loons and owls in the evening.
The path through this private land is through woods along a well marked trail. At the waterfront you'll find a new dock - perfect for launching your kayak or lounging in a lawn chair. There is a small deck with stairs to the water’s edge. The pond bottom and shore is bedrock, not sandy. We recommend water shoes as the rocky ground of the pond can be slippery. Fishing is easily done from the dock, or you may prefer going out further in your canoe or kayak for fishing, which can include bass, trout, white perch and pickerel.
A kayak ride or walk through the woods takes you to Basin Pond, a glacier-formed marvel more than 100 feet deep, stocked with splake trout, a brook/lake trout hybrid.
The gravel driveway and parking are available for up to 3 cars easily.
We designed our camp to appreciate the setting of woodland Maine besides a quiet contemplative pond. We want to share this special place with those of the same appreciation for Maine's beauty. We are committed to being good stewards to our land and pond and have been awarded as a LakeSmart site. Please enjoy our place and build memories.
We really enjoyed staying here for the week! Our kids (ages 5 and 9) had a blast swimming and kayaking everyday! It is such a quiet and peaceful setting. We also enjoyed watching the hummingbird almost every afternoon fly by the porch window! All around a great place to come and relax and "get away from everything"!
The home was well-equipped and had everything we needed to enjoy the long weekend. The pond itself is wonderful, and filled with beautifully-clear water. The kayaks were a big plus, and were great for exploring the pond.
Things were clean and ready for us when we arrived. There's little to no cell reception at the house, which was nice. You could leave your phone in the other room for a few days -- haha. The provided binder had suggestions for things to do, and places to eat in the area, but we ended up staying put all weekend and didn't leave the house.
We'd love to come back sometime.
My husband and I stayed a week and enjoyed every minute. The water was warm, we loved the quiet. The house was perfect, not any complaints, spent our vacation reading, swimming, listening to music, the best.
An excellent, clean house on the lake. We enjoyed the tranquil setting and mornings on the lake with the loons. The property is quite remote, however. Do your research and find the groceries in Mount Vernon before you leave. There is no information provided in the cabin as to grocery/convenience stores and no maps provided.
My family stayed here for a few nights with our infant for a much needed relaxing get away. The only thing that could have made it better is if it were closer to home so we could go more often; we are from Virginia.
My family just stayed here for a week and enjoyed it tremendously! So nice and quiet, you can hear a fish jump! House is beautiful and well equipped with everything I needed to cook for the family! They even had a grill to use on the deck! We caught bass fish right off the dock and were able to kayak the pond without large boats going by! I felt like it was our personal pond for the week, although saw many families sharing with us! I highly recommend everyone to rent this place for a week and recharge!
We live in central Maine and have never heard of David Pond before. We were looking for a quiet place to stay with our two children. This property popped up and we loved the online pictures and figured we would check it out. We are so happy that we did! It was such an incredible week! It was so nice to "unplug" and just spend time together as a family. We spent a lot of time swimming, kayaking, fishing and and playing both board games and card games. This is the most peaceful lake I have ever visited. There were some days when we would spend the day on the dock swimming and kayaking and not se another soul. Talk about relaxing! On the days we did see people...it was usually in kayaks or canoes. We had an incredible time and would recommend this to anyone that is looking for some down time! Oh and the loon calls were the best!
Nearby towns offer many other adventures. Mount Vernon has a country store, a hardware store, gift shops, and a great spot for breakfast or lunch, the Old Post Office Café. Kents Hill offers a wonderful store, the Apple Shed, which offers home cooking to bring back to camp, gelato, fine baked goods and other Maine products. Belgrade Village is home to a couple of restaurants, and a highly rated golf course. These towns are all less than 20 minutes away. Within 45 minutes are larger cities, including Farmington, with shopping, an excellent movie theater, and restaurants, as well as Augusta, Hallowell, and Waterville.
