About Michael P Keator

Greetings! I moved from Upstate New York in 1980 to Jackson Hole Wyoming. For the next ten years I guided river trips and wilderness pack trips with horses and mules, guided in wilderness hunting camps and backcountry ski trips, and taught Telemark and cross country skiing. In 1987 I worked for the US Forest Service as a backcountry ranger in the Teton Wilderness. In the summer of 1990 I began my career in Yellowstone National Park as a US Park Ranger. I worked all over the park until June of 2012 when I retired to West Yellowstone, Montana. Currently I live in a log house that I built in Lazy Acres in 2005. I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, rafting and skiing along with a sincere desire to share the surrounding area with visitors that don't have the opportunity to live here.

Michael P Keator purchased this house in 2014

Why Michael P Keator chose West Yellowstone

This property is unique because I designed it to meet the needs of friends and family vacationing in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area. The area will give you all the excitement you can handle, and I wanted a place that you can return to after a long day and totally relax in the comfort and style of Montana.

What makes this house unique

The Fox Den Lodge is not only unique because of the mountain views but the close proximity to Yellowstone National Park and the country setting it sits in. The name comes from the fact that during the summer of 2013 we enjoyed the adventures and follies of a fox and her 5 kits that built their den under the shed next door. We occasionally have moose and dear walk through Lazy Acres during the summer.

Very nice to be so close to West Yellowstone. Felt like being at home while actually being in the mountains near Yellowstone National Park. The autumn colors were beautiful to behold. The sauna was first class.

First on our list of places for a return trip.

  • 5 of 5

Fox Den Lodge was the perfect place for us, my husband, mother and myself. Plenty of space, bright, clean and well appointed. Well supplied with basic necessities.

Breakfast views were wonderful and evenings with the gas stove were cozy.

lose enough to the pack entrance without the usual tourist surroundings. Way more relaxing and comfortable than a hotel; especially for my mother, turning 84.

The icing on the cake was to see Mr.....or Mrs. Fox on our last day. Such a memorable stay.

Regrets....I forgot to write in the journal and we didn't have more time there.

We plan to return.

Thank You for such a peaceful property.

Beautiful home to relax in after a day in the parks

  • 5 of 5

The Fox Den was inviting after a full day in the park. We were able to relax and have dinner in the well appointed kitchen and relive the sights of the day. The first evening there was a Great Grey Owl sitting on the fence behind the home. We were able to watch him hunt all evening and the next morning. The fox came by the next day and was spotted throughout our stay. The home was inviting to my 88 year old mother with limited mobility. Michael helped to find out where the hawks were migrating through the park and let us know about earthquake lake. I would recommend this home to everyone as long as they don't take a week when I would like to stay. :)

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home, immaculately kept and comfortable in every way. The furnishings and fixtures are lovely. The kitchen is well equipped, and we enjoyed the BBQ on the back porch. We stayed here during the first week of October, and the weather was snowy and cold, making for amazing vistas from the house as well as in the park. The house stayed warm and cozy - a great place to return to after touring the park. The sauna was a special treat! The town of West Yellowstone and entrance to the park was were about an 8-10 minute drive from the house. There was a good market in town which carried locally baked bread and some organic foods. Though we didn't get a chance to meet Michael, he was very responsive to any questions. I would definitely stay here again. Our one regret was that the foxes did not come visit us!

Great place to relax and enjoy your Yellowstone Park vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Fox Den. It looked really nice on the website and I was very pleased when we arrived. This beautiful home was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. After allowing us to settle in, Mike came by and introduced himself, explained how to use things and offered information about the area. It is located close to West Yellowstone and the entrance to Yellowstone Park and isn't far from the Island Park area. We drove to Mesa Falls, Big Springs, over to Quake Lake and Hebgen Lake and spent time shopping in West Yellowstone and of course, Yellowstone Park as well. There are a few grocery stores in town and plenty of places to eat out. We joined the rest of our family that rented a home just down the road and we spent evenings together watching football, playing games, enjoying our time together. Both homes were beautiful. It was a great vacation. We will highly recommend the Fox Den to others and hope to return someday. Thanks Mike for your hospitality!
