Lutherstadt Eisleben is a medium-sized city and the second-largest city in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, located in the eastern Harz foothills in Saxony-Anhalt. It is known as the birthplace and final resting place of Martin Luther. In honor of the city’s most famous son, Eisleben has borne the nickname “Lutherstadt” since 1946. The Luther memorial sites in Eisleben and Wittenberg have been designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Eisleben is a member of the Association of Luther Cities.
