BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This incredibly handsome lodge is built at the location of the fishing scenes in the classic movie “A River Runs Through It” in the Gallatin River Canyon between Bozeman and Big Sky. There are stunning views of the cliffs and the summit of Storm Castle from almost every room. From the deck you’ll enjoy the sound of the river just down the slope, pines all around, and the view across the river to the rock wall of Castle Rock. In addition to the lodge’s beautiful décor, you’ll enjoy a great stereo system, a 42” TV in the great room and in each bedroom, along with wireless Internet throughout the lodge.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS: The home has four bedrooms and extra sleeping space in three different areas – the den, the loft, and the TV room off the bunkroom. The lodge has 3.5 baths. The master bedroom, just off the great room, has a king size bed, double doors to the deck and the river, and a private bath with two sinks and a large shower with a river pebble floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a loft. The bedrooms have a king and a queen size bed and the loft has a queen sleeper sofa. These areas share a bath with a tub & shower, 2 sinks and a large closet. At the other end of the home, the bunkroom has two sets of bunk beds, one a double/twin, the other a twin/twin setup. The attached TV room is a great kid zone with a TV/DVD/satellite setup and a double size futon couch. The bunkroom also includes a bath with tub and shower. The last sleeping space is a queen sleeper sofa in the den off the great room. There’s also a half bath just off the kitchen.
KITCHEN AND DINING: The well-appointed kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a large walk-in pantry. There is a bar counter that seats 4 for chatting with the cook, and the dining table that seats 10 comfortably. There is also a gas barbecue for your outdoor grilling.
GREAT ROOM: The great room has an amazing bank of windows looking out to the river canyon. There’s a vaulted ceiling, a large stone wood burning fireplace, comfortable seating for a crowd, and a wet bar with a fridge and sink. It’s a wonderful room for gathering! There’s a stereo, iPod docking station, TV, DVD, and in-wall speakers for stereo and TV surround sound.
OFFICE: If you need to do a bit of work during your stay, you’ll enjoy the very comfortable den just off the great room. It’s equipped with comfortable seating, a nice built in desk, and wireless Internet.
SETTING, ACREAGE, AND VIEWS: This lodge is situated at the filming location for the great fishing scenes in the classic “A River Runs Through It”. Hollywood chooses locations carefully, and they did well on this one. The Storm Castle cliffs are spectacular, and the view up-river to Garnet Peak is beautiful.
OUTDOOR AMENITIES: The highlight is a large deck accessed from the great room, dining room and master bedroom. From this vantage point, you’re looking up at the incredible cliffs and down towards the Gallatin River. With a picnic table in the yard, a hot tub & stereo speakers on the deck, it’s a perfect place to spend your evenings.
ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Besides fishing right out the door, hiking, skiing and whitewater rafting are nearby. One of our favorite river outfitters is just up the road, and there are great hiking trailheads within a few miles. Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Ski areas are about 30 minutes away. For an especially memorable experience in the park, book a specialized private tour with our sister company, Greater Yellowstone Guides.
We had our annual family gathering in Montana this year. Four generations from age 4 to 82. Crooked Canyon Lodge was the perfect place for our gathering. The home is beautiful and convenient to everything we wanted to do. The home was stocked with absolutely everything we needed...from plenty of linens to plenty of extra toilet paper and everything in between that you can think of. My family came from all over the country and everyone of them felt it was the perfect place for our vacation. We could not be more pleased!!!
Crooked Canyon Lodge was one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in. The place was spotless and had all the accommodations we needed. The grandkids loved the bedroom above the garage. The hiking trails close to the lodge are fantastic. We loved having the Gallatin River right out the back door. The grandkids spent hours throwing rocks in the river and breaking the ice. I would recommend this place this anyone.
The lodge was beautiful, just as described. A lot of open space, beautiful furnishings. Plenty of bedding, kitchen utensils, fire wood, etc. the loft over the garage created a great separate living space. The extra amenities were very helpful, spices, foil, Saran Wrap, etc. Every detail was included.
I rented the house so that my children and grandchildren could spend a week together with me. The weather was glorious and we loved walking down to the river to fish. The house was lovely, very clean, and a perfect set-up with the kids in their own area in the bunk room. We did day trips all over the area (to Yellowstone twice). My only disappointment is, based on the exterior photo, it seems that the house is isolated. It is not--there are other homes close-by on either side. Also the house is just yards from a major highway and we could hear traffic that was often louder than the peaceful sound of the river below. But all in all, a wonderful trip.
We rented the house the week of Memorial day 2014. The house is in perfect shape and very well appointed. We spend a few days fishing, a few days hiking and many evenings eating well. The house is perfectly situated between Big Sky and Bozeman and either going out or cooking at home, we had many options. The natural beauty of Montana and views from the house are just great. The Gallatin river is just a short walk out back. We would definately come back and rent again. Very clean and well maintained property
We rented this house for a large family gathering for the spring MSU graduation. Everything was exactly as advertised and then some. Everyone was pleased with the layout, the facilities and the quality of the entire experience. This was by far the best rental property that We have every encountered with nothing left out that a large group would need for a very pleasant stay.
