Overview

About the property

Self-catering, independent, spectacular view; three bedrooms and two baths

An exceptional spot, in an already extraordinary location... a truly perfect Tuscan landscape from every window! NO NOISE... NO TRAFFIC... NO SCHEDULES TO KEEP...

Only 1,5 km from Radda in Chianti, and midway between Florence and Siena, our 25-acre farm is nestled into the side of a hill at the end of its own 400 meter gated, gravel road, and consists of the original 300 year old remodelled stone farmhouse available for summer rental, a nearby stone hay barn which houses a separate apartment as well as the owner's home, and a new stone building at the far side of the property, location of our farm gift shop, where we sell our cashmere yarn and accessories.

Commanding an uninterrupted view of one of the most exceptionally beautiful valleys that the Chianti area has to offer, La Penisola overlooks the VOLPAIA VALLEY: a seemingly perfect blend of gentle hills, geometric vineyards, and unkept woodland and pasture. The house is a single unit, self-catering vacation rental, surrounded by its own separate garden, boasts a spacious outdoor pergola for al fresco dining, and direct access to the 6 x 12 meter stone paved, private swimming pool. Harmonious, centuries-old stone Tuscan farmhouses roofed with terra-cotta tiles together with strict building codes have assured that this particular valley has NO modern buildings to ruin the view.

AN AUTHENTICALLY TUSCAN EXPERIENCE?... If your idea of a total vacation is to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, this is the place to do it!

Ours is a small, unmechanized working farm - we use the controlled grazing of our cashmere goats to clear, improve and maintain our 25 acre property and other farms in the area.

Fencing keeps the goats in and the wildlife out: we are surrounded by a rich and diverse natural fauna population: deer, boar, wolves, foxes, badgers, weasels, pheasants, etc.

Ours is a SINGLE UNIT, SELF CATERING RENTAL sleeping 2 - 6 people, and is available from Saturday to Saturday, from Easter thru October. We have a complete and thorough website that describes the property and our work with cashmere goats, sustainable landscaping, and our certification as Europe's first PREDATOR FRIENDLY agricultural operation!

The farmhouse rental consists of a three bedroom, 2 bath stone building built on two levels, and tucked into the side of the hill overlooking our spectacular VOLPAIA valley:

UPSTAIRS: the entrance is through a glassed-in veranda with fireplace. Enter to the top floor, where the master bedroom (with ensuite bathroom), and twin-bedded bedroom are separated by a small reading room.

DOWNSTAIRS: connected by wooden staircase which leads to the dining area and kitchen. A short hall brings you to the downstairs bedroom (double) and bathroom, and the kitchen door leads directly outdoors to the shaded pergola, wooden dining table and chairs, overlooking the 6 x 12 meter swimming pool

Comfort, simple and waiting to become your home away from home!

About Dr Nora Kravis

An ex-new Yorker, I grew up in Manhasset, Long Island, moved to Italy in the 70's and graduated from the University of Pisa in Veterinary Medicine, after getting a Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art in Rome

One thing led to another and after falling in love with Italy and then with goats, started the first Cashmere Goat farm in Europe and now raise Cashmere goats, produce Sustainable Cashmere yarn, sell goats worldwide and produce hand-woven and hand-knitted cashmere accessories and home furnishings which we sell directly to our customers on our farm.

Dr Nora Kravis purchased this farmhouse in 1972

Why Dr Nora Kravis chose Siena Province

We are a little piece of authentic rural Tuscany where you can kick back and relax and not feel guilty about it!

Then again you can get up and visit all the treasures the area has to offer, but in that case we do suggest you stay for two weeks - one day touring alternating with another day soaking up the view.....this is what seems to work the best for our repeat guests!

Having said that, if what you really want is a unique experience of what it's like living in REAL rural Tuscany and want to take part in a real working farm, there's always the chance to help: combing goats in April, helping kidding in May, herding in June...you name it and we'll give you a chance to try your hand at it!!

What makes this farmhouse unique

We're near enough to get almost anywhere but far enough from everything to unwind! Totally!

From that very first day - way back in 1972 when we first stopped our horse after climbing up the hill, and took in the view below.....this was the place we were meant to be! We think you'll feel the same !

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived not really knowing what to expect, but our week at Chianti Cashmere was really unsurpassed - what a place. It was such a lovely laid-back location to get away - the view is just too good to be true. It's comfortable without being overdone Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves and would love to come for two weeks next time

Our Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We have come to Radda every year for the past 12 years. We usually travel to a different city in Europe first and always end our vacation to stay at the Chianti Cashmere Farm. Each summer we bring various family members to share the experience with us. During our stay we love sitting outdoors in the evening, enjoying dinner and wine and the atmosphere. There is nothing like it--after working hard all year--relaxing for a week on the farm is wonderful. My two sons, daughters and stayed with us on the farm, and this summer our three grandsons accompanied us. They had a fabulous time. Like typical teen-agers they are usually tied to their electronic devices; however, during their stay on the farm they had the experience of helping Nora herd several goats to another pasture. In addition, they loved the beautiful scenery and swimming in the pool in the afternoon, as well as experiencing the delicious cuisine in local, non-touristy restaurants.

We will be back again next summer and at that time we will be accompanied by our two sons and our youngest grandchild, Adam. As always, we look forward to the peace and quiet; beautiful, tranquil scenery, and delicious food and wine.

A Unique Experience

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful and unique experience to stay on a working goat farm - seeing first hand all that goes into running such a place. Nora finds time for her guests in spite of the endless tasks at hand in running her business and the farm.

The location is STUNNING. The region - well, what does one have to add about being in the heart of Tuscany??? The views from her property are breathtaking.

NOTE: Do make sure to book this directly from the owner and avoid the agencies that represent this property. There is nothing like booking directly with an owner to have clear, honest interractions about the property.

A Gem!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been returning to La Penisola for the past 18 summers and plan to do so again this coming year. The setting is idyllic, the goats so beautiful, the dogs, both large and small, enchanting, and the owner, Nora Kravis, a person of intelligence, depth and humanity. The house and its surroundings feel like our second home. We know the best routes to get to wherever we want to go, restauranteurs greet us with big smiles, and the dogs, whether or not they know us, are instantly our newest and best friends!

Photographs accurately depict the house interior and exterior. The house is always immaculate. Nora is an excellent guide for local attractions, things to see and do, and good places for food shopping. Her cashmere pieces are really stunning and well priced. I give a very strong recommendation for La Penisola!

JUST THE BEST!

  • 5 of 5

this is one remarkable place - not only because it's situated out in the chianti valley below radda, but also due to the owner, nora kravis, and her devotion to her cashmere goats - and the products they produce. absolutely the most gorgeous cashmere items i have ever seen. and what fun getting to meet the goats and "kids" up close!

the farm is one of the most peaceful, beautiful spots in all of the valley. it's quiet and rustic and warm and inviting. the trek into radda is actually quite doable on foot - by car, it's five minutes!

the guest house is spacious and clean - with a great swimming pool just outside the back door. there's a patio above the pool that offers some of the best views in all of chianti.

nora is so knowledgeable about the entire area and a great help when needing advise and/or directions as to where to go and how to get there. this wonderful place is so centrally located, day trips are perfect - head out in the morning and get home at a decent hour by night.

i loved being out in the countryside because it was so relaxing.... and yet easy to just come and go so lots of exploring could be accomplished.

don't hesitate to come here!

Authentic Tuscan Experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been staying at the farmhouse in Radda in Chianti for the past 12 years. We love the experience, the weather, the beautiful views, the privacy and the absolute authentic Tuscan experience. We love it so much we return every summer; we have brought our son, daughter and grandchildren with us to the farmhouse in Radda. This summer we are bringing three more grandchildren to share the experience.

Nora is very knowledgable about the Chianti area, she always lets us know when and where there are farmer's markets and points us in the direction of great local authentic restaurants.

Each time we visit she shares experiences with the beautiful cashmere goats. I have purchased several soft and lovely cashmere scarves and blankets; they keep me quite warm and are well-used when we travel north during the winter.

In the past, Nora raised bolognese bichon puppies and we fell in love with them! Over time we became the owners 4 bichon pups--Lucca, Sophie, Lea, and Ultimo.

We are the type of travelers who like to see the sights, but we also like to come "home," (to the farmhouse) to relax and enjoy a great home-cooked meal using local vegetables, and meat, paired with a glass of wine; sitting out on the terrace, enjoying the peace, the view, and the special evening light.

We have travel throughout Europe each summer and on each trip we always end our last week's stay in Radda in Chianti at the Chianti Cashmere farmhouse to renew, relax, and enjoy life.

Chianti is considered one of the most seductive of Tuscan attractions: perfect views, untouched hillside villages, incontaminated countryside unspoilt by modern architecture, industrial buildings, or highways. This is part of what has made our neighborhood so inviting, and also signifies that you can really 'get away' but just sitting down and enjoying the scenery! Our particular valley is regulated by very strict zoning laws so it looks much the way is has for the last few hundred years..........with the addition of a telephone pole or two!

Our little farmhouse, although not an elegant villa, is cosy and comfortable, and we truly have what everyone calls a 'Tuscan View'....... a patchwork of terracotta roofed farmhouses dotted around the hillsides, all spread below us in 'our' valley with not a modern building in sight...

We believe in treating our guests with 'benign neglect' - we're here to greet you and show you around, explain the idiosincrasies of Tuscan farmhouses, good places to eat, what's going on this week in the village.....but mostly we'll wave to you in the morning and maybe catch up with you in the evening before you go out for dinner........or maybe share a glass of wine under the grape arbor outside the farmhouse kitchen.

We'll be here for you when you need us and disappear when you don't!

Springtime on our farm is a busy, busy time of year - we are combing our 200 Cashmere goats (you can chip in and give a hand if you like) and this year our kids will be born from May onwards: now THAT is a good reason for being here, just on its own.....baby goats are adorable and infinitely entertaining.......one of the reasons we don't even have a TV! You'll understand why once you've watched them cavort and gambol all over the place!

In other words, if you don't want to do anything in particular during your vacation, this is a good pace to do it - otherwise we'll help keep you busy!

We truly look forward to showing you our little corner of paradise
