Spyglass Villa takes its inspiration from the unique Saban vernacular with its charming white-washed board and hand-cut stone exterior. But modern conveniences and a contemporary interior awaits inside featuring a large gourmet kitchen with breakfast bar, dining and living area, 3 bedrooms (one is a bunkroom with single bed) and 3 full-sized baths. The wrap-around veranda has vistas of Mount Scenery and 270 degrees of ocean view including distant islands.

World Class experience

The villa is even more beautiful than the pictures. The views and gardens are even more vibrant and incredible than we expected. We were amazed at the incredible construction and attention to detail in the house. The building itself looks like much of the wood work and interior is custom built and individually crafted. All appliances and appointments are top notch. The atmosphere is so peaceful. Overall the villa is airy, spacious, bright and with views into the infinity of the Caribbean.

Wonderful home. Amazing location.

We absolutely loved our week at Spyglass! The home has the feel of a traditional Saba cottage, with some of the BEST views in the Caribbean. We love this small island. The hiking is amazing, the diving is world class, and we love the local food. The home is in a private location, very peaceful and quiet. We would definitely choose to stay here again. If you lead an active lifestyle and enjoy walking/hiking, you can easily walk to the main areas in the village of Windwardside where the local shops and restaurants are. We enjoyed the spectacular views of each sunrise and sunset with a good book in hand. We'll be back soon!

Magic

The house is perfect—so peaceful with stunning views from the entire property. It was like a warm bath for my soul. Saba is beautiful but not for the faint of heart. The hike up the mountain is so worth it but bring a hiking stick—when they say 1,000 trail stairs that’s real and most stairs start at your shins. I rented a car but if you don’t have a decent sense of direction and nerves of steel don’t bother. The road is well maintained but there are NO signs and the road is crazy steep with hairpin turns. Everyone is super nice and helpful. The grocery stores have minimal offerings bring your own coffee if that’s your thing.I’d go back just to say at the house.

World-class views

Very nice villa with some of the most spectacular views you’ll find anywhere in the world. Good hikers can walk into/from the village of Windwardside — be prepared for a steep hill on return. We were 4 adults, though 6 would be very comfortable. All conveniences are in the house. Mgmt: 1 sink awaiting repair parts; we never found the orientation book. We appreciated the mid-week cleaning service, but would like to be notified of that before they intrude on our privacy.

EVEN BETTER THAN WE HAD HOPED IT WOULD BE

We loved our stay this past week at Spyglass. I have NO complaints. We wound up just hanging out in the afternoons after our morning dives, the views from even laying in bed are amazing. I took so many pictures. Great work out walking back and forth to town. Make sure you use Peddy if you do need a taxi. One of the nicest guys I've ever met. Also highly recommend Jobean Glass Art, she is another beautiful person who is a pleasure to spend time with. Thank you for sharing your home with us, we will be back asap.

Absolute Perfection

Wake up to beautiful sunrises and also see the sun setting. Watched interesting weather systems form around us, going from sunny to being engulfed by clouds. Lots of activity watching boats! We adore the Spyglass. It is comfortable, clean, and has the best views on Saba. The walk to Windwardside is steep but burns off all of those yummy calories from the many restaurants. Hiking was so beautiful! We enjoyed watching the triathlon as well. The folks on Saba are so very kind and helpful. Thank You Barney and a big thanks to Jovi as well. He did a great job. The last month was so very nice:)

Paradise

Stayed 10 lovely days at this incredible house!! People would come to the end of the drive, just for the view. (I gave a few tours lol) The house was one of the nicest we have ever stayed in! The kitchen had everything you needed to cook, we made most of our breakfast there and ate overlooking the beautiful Saba town. The Bedrooms were beautiful, no bugs while we were there, and slept with the windows open and felt very safe. I can’t say enough positive things about our lovely stay and the wonderful people of saba! Everyone was warm and welcoming. We were even offered a few rides home after dinner, when the uphills got a little tough after too much wine and dinner!! Thank You Barney and Mark for making this a vacated will always remember. Could not ask for anything more

This past week was spent with my husband and son at this exceptional villa on Saba. The views from each room were breathtaking. The location of the villa at the end of a dead end road allowed the quiet peace that we hoped for. There was an occasional taxi showing off the beautiful views from this site, otherwise it was silent except for the sound of the waves or the occasional rooster crow. The cool breezes swept through the villa at all times keeping it cool. The property has an interesting history and was completely remodeled in 2013. The result is a place where you can watch the sunrise and sunset from your own deck. The villa overlooks the Caribbean Sea at 1500 feet above sea level so imagine those views. Then place Mount Scenery in your back yard and it's a site you won't get tired of. We have traveled a fair amount in the Caribbean but have never experienced a place quite like these. Don't worry about overindulging at Bitty Bakery or one of the great restaurants in town because the walk to and from the villa is the perfect amount of exercise. We enjoyed a different place each nite although the kitchen at Spyglss is ready for you to create your own meal and there is a grill out back. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed to prepare meals. Jovie visited every afternoon and kept the place spotless. The property manager was readily available via email with questions or to call a taxi. I would recommend Island Flavor if you are traveling to The Bottom for lunch. The owner uses fresh herbs from her garden in her cooking and it was fabulous. Chez Bubba was a favorite in windward side along with Sea witch and Brigadoons. My husband is a diver and used Saba Divers to dive with. By the end of the week, they felt like family and visited the property because they wanted to enjoy the views. Saba is an island I could return to many times. If you are looking for a place to relax, do some hiking maybe some diving, Saba is the place for you. If you are looking for a villa that gives you an feel like "a little bit of heaven," Spyglass is the place for you. It's a perfect respite from our busy, stressful lives back home. You can pick up a book (I enjoyed Saban Lore which was left on the coffee table) and the only distraction will be the gorgeous view in front of you. Spyglass

Beautiful and incredible house on the cliff of Saba. The absolute perfect place for relaxation and beautiful scenery. It was clean and open and perfectly situated to have views of the island, the neighboring islands, and the ocean. Would 100% recommend this VRBO to anyone traveling to Saba. It was heaven.

Lovely Views

This was a really great property in Saba Island. I love the ability to walk into town to eat at great restaurants and then get a little exercise walking back to the cottage. There is also a lovely bakery, where one can buy pastry in the morning. The cottage was beautifully decorated and well appointed to prepare meals at home as well. There are two beautiful bedrooms on the main level. The third sleeping space is listed as a bunk room, which is very accurate as it is not a bedroom but a small space below the cottage with a single mattress. Despite the small space, it does have a very nice attached full bathroom. We did some diving with Sea Saba, and also hiking on our own. Both great experiences. I would highly recommend Saba island and especially The Spyglass Cottage to future guests.

Peacefully Beautiful

Saba is a magical place and the Spyglass has been our favorite place to stay. The 180 degree views of the sea are exceptional. Watching the boats coming and going is so interesting. The house is quiet and the breeze blowing over you at night is so relaxing. The open flow of the home makes it feel like living outside but with all of the indoor comforts. We never turned the TV on as Saba is full of so much to see and do. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back again soon.

Magnificent SpyGlass Villa with Stunning Ocean Views and Rainbows

My wife and I were fortunate to spend one month at Spyglass villa and our experience interacting with the Saban community was unlike anywhere else in our travels. Spending countless hours looking out at the ocean, sunsets and sunrises were never a dull moment. This is truly a special place to be on one’s bucket list. The frequent rainbows viewed from this cliff side porch at elevation 1250 ft were amazing. Barney has done a fantastic job landscaping his property with all kinds of fruit trees along with fresh lemons and limes to use for cooking or cocktails.. The kitchen is beautiful and fully equipped for making a special dinner. Wednesday is the day to shop for weekly groceries and fresh fish at Windwardside and the two grocery stores will deliver it and bring you back up to the villa. Barney’s support team (Mark, Jovi and Rodney) were all available throughout our stay. The Village of Windward side was a beautiful 15-20 minute steep walk down the “Road” where restaurants like Bubba Bistro, Tropics, Saba Snack and Briggadoons all have satisfying menus. One very special restaurant “Rendezvous” at The Eco-lodge is a must do with patio dining high up in the rain forest. There are about 10 taxi cabs available to call from the home phone. We called “Cero” Taxi #1 who was very dependable and friendly. Our daughters did work remotely from Spyglass via Wifi. Thank you Barney and we have already booked February 2023.

Magnificent

Throughout our time at Spyglass, we had to pinch ourselves to believe we were really there, witnessing such incredible views and charm. Everything was smooth and as expected. We were two and then in the last few days three people (one couple) and the house was just the right size for us. A few days before we arrived, Barney reached out about how to coordinate with Mark to arrange a taxi and pre-stocking with groceries. We took advantage of both services, which were great. The walk to Windwardside was easy and pleasant for us moderately fit folks, and by the end of our ten days we were even able to walk back to Spyglass (i.e., up the hill) with no pauses. The beds were comfy and everything was clean and fresh. We especially appreciated the many seating options outdoors, depending on whether we wanted to watch the sunrise or sunset, stargaze, or eat breakfast. It was incredibly hard to leave Spyglass and Saba more generally. Both are truly special and we look forward to our return.

Magic!

This was our second trip to Saba. Spyglass is a nice walk from Windwardside - a great way to burn off a few calories from the nice selection of restaurants in town. Spyglass is very well appointed with two nice sized bedrooms and a lovely kitchen thoughtfully stocked with the tools to whip up a great meal to enjoy while you look at one of the most spectacular views you could ever wish to see! We have travelled extensively and have been lucky to see some very beautiful places. My feelings on our first visit were confirmed as I again witnessed the most incredible display of lighting across the water. I would describe it as "a painter's light" - though I'm not sure anyone would believe it to be true if I were to paint the scenes as I saw them. It is almost unworldly, uniquely beautiful and completely mesmerizing. On the evenings I did prepare a meal, I found it nearly impossible to do because I kept leaving to watch the light change every few seconds during the sunset. Just as I was sure I had seen the most beautiful view of the evening, it was replaced by yet another impossible scene, only to change again and again with each blink of the eye. A very comfortable and enjoyable stay in a lovely home. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Astonishing view but....

Spyglass is a beautiful house, located nearby the main village, on a ridge offering an astonishing view. It has a great kitchen with a lot of kitchenware. Housekeeping services have been irregular and 3rd bedroom is tiny and kind of claustrophobic for children to stay alone at the ground floor when all other rooms if the villa are at the upper floor.

Father and Son, Chris and Barney Gibbs are born and bred-Barbadians. Saba and Barbados have shared seafaring traditions since the 17th century, and the flat, limestone island to the South is a vastly different landscape to Saba's volcanic peaks. But both islands are home to Chris and Barney.

Why they chose this property

Purchased as a virtual ruin in 2009, the Barbadian owners of Spyglass Villa have meticulously renovated the property as a refuge for all who choose to stay here. Through careful study of the unique Saban vernacular in its over 100 year old cottages, we have not departed from the well-crafted and intricate details of Saban architecture, while also maintaining a contemporary, but comfortable feel in the property. Saba is a quiet and charming island surrounded by spectacular sea and mountain views and each space in the home was designed to ensure that visitors enjoy peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

‘Spyglass’ is the current name given to the property which was formerly constructed and occupied by well-known Saban Calvin Holm.

After a few visits to the island the current owners decided to undertake a renovation of the property to make the house befitting of the beautiful, almost 360 degree views of the sea and mountain.
