Our family of 6 rented this unit for the week after christmas. The unit is in a great location in Mission Beach, right on Mission Bay and a couple of blocks from the Ocean. The unit has a lot of stairs which was fine for us but may be an issue for others. On the second level there is one bedroom (only 1/2 bath), a kitchen, and living space. There is satellite TV and wireless internet that worked well during our stay. The kitchen has nice high end appliances and had all of the items we needed for our stay. On the third level there is two bedrooms each with their own bathroom and a stacked laundry unit. The master bedroom is exceptional. On the top level there is a rooftop deck that has a grill/seating. I really enjoyed this space in the morning.
Mission Beach is ideally located to go anywhere in the area. It was 10 minutes to downtown, 10 minutes to La Jolla, 10 minutes to the airport. My favorite part of every day was walking a few blocks to Better Buzz Coffee and then taking a walk along to the ocean to the pier at Pacific Beach. There is a boardwalk and you can see surfers. For a Michigander it is a great walk.
The only thing that we did not like about the unit was the parking. We were in a Nissan Pathfinder, and the parking is below ground. It was an adventure for us everytime we went in and out of the unit. If you are not comfortable driving in tight spaces and are bringing a large vehicle beware.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Bayfront home. Our children, their spouses and one grandson joined my us for this six day stay. We all took turns in the master suite, which might be a hassle for some, but we persevered because we felt it would be nice for our adult children to stay in this luxurious suite for a couple of nights each too. The other upstairs bedroom also has a beautiful bath, however, it has twin beds. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed. There is a half bath on that floor, but to shower, we would have to go upstairs to the bath. Again, no big deal for us. The kitchen was convenient and had everything we needed to cook. It is located next to the downstairs bedroom and is isolated from the common room. The living room/ dining room is on the bayside and has a small, but wonderful deck we enjoyed immensely. We sat out there each morning with our coffee and enjoyed watching the boaters and morning sun. So peaceful!!
There are split stairs when you first enter this condo which takes you to the first level and a second set of split stairs that take you to the upstairs level. Anyone with any mobility issues might not find this practical, but we just found it much needed exercise. There is also an absolutely magnificent deck like no other. It has an outdoor grill, sink, dining table and chairs and also some lounge chairs. Though we didn't cook up there, we certainly spent time together enjoying conversation and the unbelievable views.
We rented a Dodge Grand Caravan for our travels and there are two spots allotted for this condo. The garage is underneath the condo and we were very unsure if our vehicle would fit in the garage. The opening literally left us about an inch getting in and out of the garage. Any vehicle bigger than that would have to park in a nearby community parking lot. Not really convenient, but some other condo renters there had to do so.
I was a little surprised that there were no beach chairs for the guest. We just used the beach towels even though we could have rented chairs somewhere or bought some & given them away at the end of our stay. There are several excellent restaurants nearby, but they were recommended by a friend that lives nearby. I would suggest there be a notebook with a list and location of grocery stores, amusement places and restaurants for the guests to review. Along with a few beach chairs, those are the only things I found lacking. All in all, a wonderful stay!
This is a beautiful property right on the bay between Santa Clara Point and El Carmel Point. The views are amazing. From the awesome rooftop deck you can also see the ocean side which is just on the other side of Mission Blvd. We were pleasantly surprised to be sitting in the family room one night when the Sea World fireworks went off - this happened every night. A free fireworks show from inside OR on the deck. Everything is updated and clean, and the property managers are great. Every morning you wake to sailboats, rowers, stand up paddle boarders in the gorgeous bay. If you want to go catch some waves, they are right across the street! The bay side is more peaceful and quiet. Restaurants are in easy walking distance too.
My family of 5 (including 3 boys 8, 15 & 18) wanted a location near the boardwalk, the beach, specifically volleyball and my husband and I wanted a view at night that we could appreciate after he kids were in bed. All things achieved here! Here you have all of that but with a few things just to be aware of when staying here I will mention later. The home is gorgeous, great comfort in our master bed and views amazing from mb rooftop deck and living room patio. Volleyball net is right in front of the unit so you can walk right out the door to play and run upstairs for a cold drink. Often we watched the kids from the patio when we were tired of playing. Kitchen well stocked with all you need to cook. Only warnings I would recommend with younger children the stairs are steep and if you are having mobility issues this is not the unit for you. My kids are older so it was perfect for us. We loved the separation, everyone had their own space. Some things we wished were changed however, the bathroom near kitchen does not have a lock, front patio door is very hard to latch and stay closed, and our vehicle fit fine in the garage but anything bigger than a kia sorento plan to park elsewhere its a very steep drop into the garage with a low ceiling. We also wish we had beach towels, sand toys, volleyball or beach chairs there. But we were aware before we arrived they were not provided. We purchased chairs for $10 at Ralphs cheaper than a $4 daily rental. Everything was very clean and we appreciated the security system that alerted us anytime a door was opened. We did have an issue when we arrived, the garage door wouldn't close. We called and were told its ok just leave it open. We also arrived to many drawers that looked like they were supposed to be locked being yanked open and a frosted type window on the side of the house appearing cracked. None of these things took away from our great stay but were concerning to us more of the area. One evening while on the balcony my husband and I witnessed someone try to climb into the unit below and when my husband stood up it scared the man away. We found a homeless person asleep on the bench below unit one morning. Aside from the two incidents our stay was wonderful. The boardwalk is great to ride a bike on. If you do, take it toward the Catamaran and up to Fanuel Street Park. Our kids enjoyed the variety of things to do there. We also rented a pontoon boat and jet ski about 50 yards away.
The house looks newly remodeled and the photos online are accurate. Overlooks the bay, and the beach is just a block away. Also within walking distance of several shops/restaurants. Definitely a good location. Because of the townhouse style layout, it's not the most kid friendly if you have small children. You will definitely want to rent baby gates because of all the stairs. It would have been nice if they had some in hand, as I'm sure lots of families stay there. Also, the third bedroom doesn't have a bathroom, so if three couples are staying, one couple will have to share the shower with another. There are two parking spots provided in the downstairs garage, keep in mind that if you have a large suv it won't fit. There is a free lot a few blocks away. Also, don't leave anything in your car- our friend's car was parked in the garage and got broken into. Overall it was a good stay and we would return.
My family and I traveled from New York to stay at this property for a few days and did not want to leave! It is modern and well kept. The rental is equipped with all the basics that you would need for the weekend. The rooftop is breathtaking! Supermarket is close by as well as restaurants. It would've been great if there were just a few shovels and sand buckets that were kept on property for kids to use but not a huge deal. There are stores near by that sell beach items. Overall we enjoyed our time and the staff was great!!
Mission Beach has countless options for fun and excitement! Bikes, Kayaks, and Paddle-boards (among other aquatic gear) can be rented all along the beach. Surf lessons are also popular, as are para sailing and jet skiing! Mission Beach is just a short drive to nearby attractions in Pacific Beach and La Jolla, and Sea World is just 5 minutes down the road! The Gaslamp District and other downtown sites are just 10 minutes away, and the world famous San Diego Zoo is just a 15 minute drive!
