Little Cabin in the Woods is the result of two couples dreaming of the ideal get-away. Rod and Anita, both educators, and Bob and Pam, a lawyer and an educator, are long-time friends who dreamed of owning a cabin as a home-away-from-home. Now retired, we enjoy traveling, grandchildren, the St. Louis Cardinals, corgis, and spending extended periods of time at the cabin.
Bob and Pam Hankins purchased this cabin in 2007
Little Cabin in the Woods was not purchased---it was designed and built by the owners! With the assistance of a Mennonite father-son team, the cabin took form over two years of persistence and hard work. Our 'fingerprints' are all over the cabin. We painted and hung the cabinets, laid the hickory hardwood floor, made and hung the curtains, and decorated.
Little Cabin in the Woods is a labor of love for us. It provides a get-away and a place of solitude that is unmatched in one of the most beautiful best-kept secrets in the US----Newton County, Arkansas.
We created the ambiances you will enjoy! The cathedral-like windows that stream the outdoors in, the wrap-around deck, the jacuzzi tub, the handcrafted cedar bedstead, the photos, the stain-glass window in the front door are among the unique features of the cabin.
Little Cabin in the Woods is remote enough to give you the feeling of solitude yet close enough to Jasper to allow you to run into the grocery story to pick up that forgotten item.
Could not have asked for a better place to stay. Amenities, location, scenery, town, roads, everything was great. This was the perfect place to spend our 15th anniversary. Thank you so much for the use of the cabin. We hope to come back again some day.
Beautiful and comfortable getaway place with a view to look forward to any time of day. Actually loved no TV and many movies to choose from after long days hiking.
Will definitely return.
We loved the view from the deck. The cabin was clean and everything we needed was provided. I want to go back for sure. We had a great time watching the leaves turn colors!!!!!
We stayed at the Little Cabin in the Woods from October 16 - October 20. The cabin is beautiful and well appointed, very homey and comfortable. If you like to cook, this is the place for you! You will find all the things you need in the kitchen. The view is spectacular from the cabin deck and no neighbors are visible. The movie collection and book collection were fantastic also! It was a great place for us to relax and enjoy fall in the Ozarks.
The cabin is perfection! The view was spectacular and the time with my family was beyond priceless❤️ My kids are 24 and 15 and each moment is precious to me! Hope you get to go to the cabin soon, it certainly surpasses expectations⛰🚣🏻🚣🏻🚣🏻🎭Fun is just a few miles up the road!
This cabin manages to be both airy and very cozy. It is beautifully constructed. we spent far too short of a time here. it is located between Jasper and Ponca, so good options for hiking or dining out in both directions, which was perfect. We ate every meal at the cabin outside with a view that helped our shoulders relax. Our kids enjoyed the playhouse and our dogs looked to be in heaven sunning on the porch. Oh, and the sunrise, the sunrise through the windows was divine. Oh, and practical things: very clean, organized, easy check in and out, kitchen fully equipped down to a sharp knife, which is sometimes hard to find in rentals! We hope to go back.
Little Cabin in the Woods is located within miles of the first designated national river, the Buffalo National River. With multiple 'put-ins,' the river offers leisurely canoeing, off-river exploration of historical sites, hiking, and horse-back riding. The road 'up the mountain' (74 West) is a beautiful scenic drive. Don't miss dining at the Low Gap Cafe for unbelievable cuisine! Highway 7 South also provides a lovely scenic drive. Stop at the Arkansas Grand Canyon for a breath-taking view. While at the Arkansas Grand Canyon, enjoy lunch or dinner at Cliff House Inn.
Be sure to make a visit to the Ponca area part of your trip! Ponca is approximately 12 miles west on Highway 74. (Turn right onto 74) View elk from the comfort of your vehicle. (Elk were re-introduced to Arkansas recently and are thriving. Elk can be viewed by turning left onto Highway 43 and driving a short distance. Additionally, enjoy the historical 100-year-old Boxley Baptist Church which still holds services, the historical farmstead, and the Elk museum in Ponca. Jasper, the county seat for Newton County, has its own delights. The Ozark Cafe is a time-honored tradition that serves down-home cooking to visitors and locals. Antiquing at Emma's Museum of Junk is a treat not to miss. The Chamber of Commerce offers hand-crafted items from local craftsmen as well as information about the area. Want to float the Buffalo? Several concessionaires offer canoe rentals, drop-off and and pick-up services.
Of course, Branson and all its entertainment venues is just one hour away from the cabin.
