Our 35 acres are heavily treed with Ponderosa pines, Douglas fir, Blue Spruce, and beautiful Aspens on the west end of Evergreen. The Rocky Mountains, the meadows, and the hills surrounding the ranch are beautiful all year. You can join us in the morning or evening when we feed the horses...the kids love it. Hiking in the Arapaho National Forest is at your leisure and we will show you the paths to take. Pack a snack, bring some water, grab your camera, and enjoy the views. Our rural country roads are great for a walk or run too. Our horses are available for riding in the arena, on the trails if you are an experienced rider, and just for pictures whatever your age.
We would love to introduce you to the ranch life, the critters who live with us on the ranch and those that live just on the other side of the fence. Ranch life is hard work, fun if you love the lifestyle, and we certainly do. Our guests have access to the ranch property which makes introduction to the ranch and the critters who live on it a must. Relax on the large deck with your favorite beverage and watch the horses, deer or elk graze by. In the evening do some star gazing while listening to the forest sounds as they lull you to sleep.

I met my cowboy, Andy, in early 2008 and joined him on his Willow Creek Ranch the same year. Andy and I are pictured above in Budapest while on our Viking Longboat Cruise up the Danube in April, 2014. I grew up in Memphis, TN in the suburbs. I literally fell in love with Andy and ranch life about the same time...I do not miss my city girl life one iota. It's still amazing to me that a 1,500 pound horse could love me so much and want to be my lap dog. Ranch/farm life is a dream come true for me and I love sharing the ranchfarm with Andy, our friends, and our guests.
Andy has always been an animal lover and a rancher at heart since he was a boy. He did not hesitate to purchase these 35 plus acres that back up to the Arapaho National Forest when he had the opportunity.
The towering Ponderosa Pines, Blue Spruce, Douglas Fir, and the Aspens are staged below a mountain of dirt and boulders, various critters, and their homes on the ranch at 8600 feet. The stars seem to be as close as the ground you walk on. The critters are close too, but not too close.
Willow Creek Ranch was established in 2000, is a working ranch with horses, and we live on the premises. We also have 3 friendly dogs, Shotgun & Tess (corgis), and Jackson (schnauzer) who are family and occupy space with us here on the ranch. In 2010 we decided to share our beautiful ranch with the Barn Loft rentals (see vrbo listing #306683 & 653786), and added the Lodge House in June of 2013. We enjoy entertaining and taking care of our guests while giving them the privacy they may require.
Andy and I are friendly, laid back, and we love our lifestyle. Though we often visit our boat docked at a marina in Southern California, the ranch is our soul. We want to share with you the beauty and serenity of Willow Creek Ranch, and an experience that will bring you back again and agai
Jude Lovorn purchased this farmhouse in 1999
The temperature is about 10 degrees cooler in the summer than down in Denver, and other towns along the front range. The serenity of the forest, the seclusion, it's critters, and the soft breeze of the evening through the evergreens will lull you to sleep like never before. This all makes for a very restful night's sleep indeed. The Upper Bear Creek area has some of the most beautiful mountain views in the world. As you come up Upper Bear Creek Road to the ranch, the view of Mt. Evans is breath taking.
Sitting on the deck with your favorite refreshment, and enjoying the ranch with its' quite beauty is very relaxing. The access to the Arapaho National Forest on our horses, and for a day of hiking is priceless. During the hunting season we are adjacent to Area 39 and you only have to walk a short distance from the front door to the forest. Hunters from all over the world visit us. See some of their trophies on our Facebook page. Having the forest critters visit us on a daily basis makes for great entertainment when family, friends, and our guests visit the ranch. Taking care of the family of critters that live on the ranch is a pleasure...not a chore.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this three level lodge style home, very tastefully and comfortably decorated. Andy and Jude, the owners who live in a cabin at the foot of the hill, were so kind and welcoming. Jude left the Christmas decorations up in the house at my request and when we arrived, the Christmas lights were on and there was a gigantic basket filled with hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, peppermint sticks, and candy on the kitchen counter! We were a group of eleven, six adults and five children under the age of six. We brought our own gate for the steps going downstairs to keep the two year olds safe and improvised another "gate" for the steps going upstairs. The house is prettier than the pictures show probably due to lighting. The house faces east, so it is in the shade most of the time, thereby keeping the snow on the ground for longer periods of time (which we loved)! The master suite is incredibly large; one of our daughters and her husband slept there and put their two daughters on the sofa sleeper right outside their door on the ample landing at the top of the stairs; they also put the baby in a pack 'n play in the large walk-in closet upstairs, so everyone had privacy and proximity. This family shared the large en-suite bathroom upstairs. Our second daughter and her husband occupied one of the two queen bedrooms on the main level with their twin 21 month-olds in the bedroom just across the hall in pack 'n plays they had brought from home. They shared the main level bathroom, just slightly down the hall. My husband and I had the entire ground floor level to ourselves. It has two comfortable sleeper sofas and is the hub of entertainment with a pool table, large television, foosball game, and bookcases packed with novels to enjoy. This level also has a gigantic laundry/storage room and a large complete bathroom. So this lodge has so much room and sleeping areas it is really like one with five bedrooms! We enjoyed feeding the horses, watching out for deer which traverse the ranch, hiking the trails behind the lodge, playing in the snow (Jude has sleds for the children if you need them), and just being together as family. As Jude suggests, I would also recommend 4WD or AWD if there's snow or ice on the ground. We did not have 4WD or AWD and only had a few "non-traction" incidences, but we were there after the snow had melted somewhat and just before another big snowfall. Would we go there again? IN A HEARTBEAT
I recently stayed at the ranch with a great friend & both of our daughters & we had a great time. Our girls LOVED the horseback riding with Andy & he even gave the moms a turn. The house is very comfortable, peaceful & well appointed. Everything we needed was there. We all had so much fun & really unplugged (which doesn't happen often for our tweens.) TallGrass Spa is very close & convenient. The hiking trails behind the house were beautiful & I actually finished a book. All in all, it was such a great stay. Jude & Andy are wonderful hosts & we will be back.
We rented the one bedroom unit for Thanksgiving to spend with our son who lives in Denver but doesn't have enough room in his condo to accommodate us and our two labs. While being an easy drive from Denver you feel like you are in the wilderness, lots of trees, mountain views, wildlife and above all peace and quiet. The unit is very well stocked (even more so with the pumpkin pie Jude provided), well maintained and immaculately clean. Since it snowed while we were there it was like being in a snow globe, absolutely beautiful with the snow clinging to the trees and everything else. Evergreen is a fun little town and has all the amenities one would want, shopping, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants but we didn't leave Willow Creek once we were there since it was so peaceful and beautiful. We would love to go back and spend more time with Andy and Jude in the summer to fully appreciate the beauty of the area.
Our family of 14 was preparing for our first ever Family Reunion, & in addition, my husband & I planned to renew our vows with all of our children & grandchildren there. During the planning stages, Andy & Jude were very helpful & responsive. One of the reasons we chose Willow Creek Ranch is because we have ages 6 - 68 & a variety of family groups, & the lodge, combined with the two bunkhouses, worked perfectly for everyone's needs.
The location is PERFECT! There are 35 acres to roam, yet only a 20 minute scenic drive to Evergreen. The lodge was the go-to place for all family members for breakfast, some dinners, card games, foosball, pool, & of course, our vow renewal & family photos.
The wrangler spent an hour in the arena with all of the kids (young & grown) getting many opportunities to ride one of the horses. Jude & Andy put a campfire together for us on a beautiful night & Jude's granddaughter joined us (nice for our 6-year old grandson, who's name is also Jude) for songs, skits, & jokes. It was a wonderful memory!
Jude agreed to take the full family photos following our vow renewal so no one would be left out. In addition, we were shocked & grateful when she came with a huge amount of cookies for the occasion! All in all Jude & Andy were very responsive to anything we needed.
Now, about the property: there are a couple of trails just behind the lodge for those who like to hike. The forest behind the lodge is beautiful! For us 'oldsters', we enjoyed walking along the road with our dog. The kids enjoyed seeing the cattle & horses, & there is plenty of room to stretch out without anything being very far away.
The property, lodge & bunkhouse loft apartments were clean as a whistle & show pride of ownership. Everything from the furniture to appliances to décor was top class ranch. The owners have reasonable expectations that renters will reciprocate 'pride of ownership' while there.
During our week at Willow Creek, we also enjoyed the Three Sisters Trails in Evergreen, the Playhouse, & Beau Jo's pizza (top thumbs up!) Some went horseback riding near Idaho Springs, some went to the Gold Mill, some climbed to St. Mary's glacier. We also enjoyed Georgetown & the Scenic Train Ride with excellent silver mine tour. There is much to do!
I could go on & on, but I'm sure you know by now that we HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone who wants a wonderful experience! THANK YOU Jude & Andy!
We had a group of ten and Willow Creek Ranch was our base camp for three days of skiing with lots of ski hills within a 2-hour drive of the ranch. The house was very comfortable, modern, clean, and well-heated with radiant heating and a fireplace. Large entertainment room, and it was fun for playing pool. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking all of our meals. Owners were very attentive and responsive. Wish there had been a hot tub and more opportunity for recycling. 4-wheel drive vehicles recommended for winter access. Would definitely return for another ski trip.
We all flew in for a wedding and enjoyed the fact that the house had beautiful hiking trails right in the back yard. Our kids learned how to help get the horses ready for their ride. The distance was no problem as the drive into town was a beautiful ride and we saw different animals and houses on each visit.
I highly recommend this home for a visit!
Willow Creek Ranch offers Horseback Riding & Hiking in the beautiful Arapaho National Forest with outstanding views, campfires, hayrides and a tree house(s) for the little cowpokes. Feel free to go with us while we do our chores and feed the horses, cows, and calves.
There is great dining, entertainment, shopping and antiquing 10-12 minutes in Evergreen. Little Bear's Restaurant has the occasional 'hot recording artist' jamming with the band of the evening, excellent hamburgers and libations. Wulf and Buchanan Park Recreation Centers in Evergreen offer different amenities for your exercise and entertainment. Evergreen Lake has a beautiful Lake House and offers a hiking trail around the lake, paddle boats, canoes, fishing, entertainment, year round music/craft festivals, ice skating, and beautiful wedding facilities. Next door to Evergreen Lake is Evergreen Golf Course and their Keys on The Green Restaurant open to the public. Denver Rockies, Broncos, Elitch's Amusement Park(formerly Six Flags), dining, shopping, and theater are only 30 - 40 minutes from the ranch. Water Rafting, Zip Lines, Hot Springs, and Argo Gold Mine are 30 minutes away in Idaho Springs. Skiing at Loveland, Vail, Winter Park, Mary Jane, Arapaho, A Basin, Copper & Keystone are within an hour to one and half hours. Echo Mountain is fun to ski and only 12-15 minutes away. Estes Park (Rocky Mountain National Forest), Colorado Springs (Pike's Peak and the Air Force Academy, and Cheyenne, WY (Cheyenne Days in August) are within one and half to two hours away. All are a must see if you have the time...or you can always comeback and visit us again and again. There is just so much to see and enjoy in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and it's front range.
