Overview

About the property

5 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12 With Spectacular Sunset Views

Unique, completely designer furnished, this 5 bedroom, 3 bath contemporary exudes warmth and distinction. Expansive, panoramic Chesapeake Bay views from every room, over 500 ft. of shoreline with fishing, crabbing, canoeing kayaking and swimming from the deep water pier. Situated on 12 private, wooded acres with nesting eagles and gorgeous, vibrant sunsets being just a few of the extraordinary features.

The picture gallery certainly attests to the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”. The main entrance opens to the second floor foyer and hallway which, on the right, leads to a bedroom suite (queen bed) decorated in a colonial Jamaican motif. The bedroom has direct access to a bathroom on one side and a screened-in porch on the other. The bathroom has both a shower and a Jacuzzi bath tub and a circular window inviting views of the bay and nature.

Continue down the hall and you step into a spacious open living room and reading area with a 30 foot ceiling. Before you is the 180 degree view of the Bay seen through a stacked row of wall to wall windows rising from floor to ceiling forming the perimeter of this octagonal home. From this elegant and, above all, comfortable living area you have access to both an open deck and screened-in porch with ceiling fans to augment the natural breeze. It is furnished with a teak dining set, Adirondack chairs set around a coffee table and of course, a hammock.

Off to the left is the dining room with glass again all around, offering views of the bay and the wooded acreage. Adjacent to the dining room is the well-equipped kitchen, which is open to both the living room and the dining room. In addition to the fridge, dishwasher, Jenn-Air oven, and microwave, there is a Kitchenaid mixer, a blender and of course lots of pots and pans, utensils, etc.

From the reading area, ascend the stairs leading up to the 3rd floor balcony overlooking the main living area and the bay. The balcony features a bedroom suite with queen bed, including a sitting area and a designer bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double sink. In addition, the suite has its own deck so you can sun and relax in private.

The first floor opens at ground level to the boardwalk leading to the dock. It encompasses a central recreation room perfect for large screen TV viewing, a bathroom and 3 bedrooms (one with a king, the other two with queens). Each bedroom has a view of the bay and is tastefully decorated in its own unique style. This level is also where you will find the laundry room and a pantry with a second refrigerator.

Our deep water dock is perfect for crabbing, fishing, jumping in for a swim without touching the bottom, lounging on a stationary inflatable float or paddling around in a canoe or kayak exploring the shoreline. Also perfect for just sun bathing and relaxing with your family and friends and your favorite beverage, taking in the beautiful scenic setting as you hear the waves splashing up against the shoreline.

The dock is just one of many spots to take in the splendor of the ever changing palettes of color that are the unforgettable light show of the slowly descending sun, with its shimmering rays reflecting across the bay and the rolling hills of the distant shore. Of course the same show is available from the two open decks, the screened porch or in the comfort of any number of rooms in the house.

The acreage surrounding and adjacent to the house is the home of bald eagles which can regularly be seen perched on the tall lob lolly pines close to the house and soaring in the sky, or diving for fish they have spotted from on high. No need to go to the Blackwater Refuge if bald eagles are your only desire, although we highly recommend all the other attractions the Refuge has to offer!

Other outside activities include horse shoes, bocce ball, biking, kite flying, combing the adjacent shore for Indian arrowheads, sea glass and fossils and if you have any interest, there is a telescope to star gaze in the crystal clear night skies. Of course you can also sit around a fire pit late into the evening and roast marshmallows and s’mores.

Bring your bikes and explore Taylors Island’s four square miles which are crisscrossed by just eight roads. Enjoy and experience the marshes, farm land and woods and the wildlife that can be seen in its natural setting. Seek out and visit the various churches established there in the 17 and 1800’s. Don’t forget to plan lunch, dinner or drinks at The Island Grille or Palm Beach Willeys, both of which are located adjacent to marinas and boat ramps. Fishing charters can be arranged from the marinas, as well. You have the opportunity to experience some of the best fishing on the Chesapeake, especially famous for the Rockfish.

About 18 miles before reaching Taylors Island is Cambridge, which is your last chance to do serious grocery shopping. You may very well want to visit and explore this quaint town during your stay and enjoy its shops, art galleries and restaurants. Just outside of town is the Hyatt Regency Resort which has a gorgeous golf course and wonderful spa facilities. Also nearby are charming Oxford, Easton and St Michaels, with an abundance of culinary and cultural offerings including various Harriet Tubman historic sites. About halfway between Cambridge and Taylors Island, take a slight detour to find Blackwater Wildlife National Refuge, which is a top destination for nature lovers. You can explore on your own or join organized bicycle and or kayak tours offered by Blackwater Paddle and Peddle

Very nice charming property.

  • 2 of 5

We came for a short stay with our family and were looking forward to a great time. The reviews seemed positive and we were excited when we got there. It was clean and well kept. The host and property manager were responsive but we had one major issue that would have made us not take this house and feel you must know before you consider!!. It was infested with fruit flies to the point that we could not eat in the house as much as a snack. They were everywhere! We had to keep all food items in fridge entire time. According to an exterminator I called about it, the house must have been infested with it from way before and as soon as food is brought in, they attack. My kids were miserable and did not want to bathe or shower let alone eat because fruit flies were everywhere. We spent most time outside which was nice but was not worth the price for such accommodations. It would have been understandable had the owner taken responsibility for it but instead when we emailed him about it he let us know that we left a yogurt container in the garbage and a light on when we left so he feels we can call it even insinuating the flies are our fault. Not to mention, when we arrived home after a 4 hour drive we unpacked our car one item at a time to make sure we got rid of all fruit flies (and yes we had some with us in car we had to get rid of. ) If not for this very annoying issue, I would give this stay a 5 star rating but I would never return here given the severity of the infestation and the way it was dealt with.

Owner's Response: A solid 5 star rating is always our goal. A crisp clean property is certainly critical to that level of quality. We take great effort to consistently achieve that mark so a review like this is very disconcerting. During the summer , fresh fruit often carries fruit flies and we take precautions including pouring a little bleach in the drains at every turnover In addition to making sure the house is clean after every rental, we make a point of letting our guests know that Debbie our house cleaner and property manager is available at any time and can be contacted by cel phone.number provided Although she and we were contacted twice (once about jet ski information and another for DVD operation).....the fruit fly complaint was not made in in till after the stay, while the guests were on their way home. Had we been advised of the problem at the time of the stay we would have had the opportunity to address the issue . Indeed, not being advised did cause the fruit flies to multiply - Truly unfortunate ,However, within a few days the flies were eradicated. Even though the house was left in poor condition and requiring extra carpet stain cleaning we returned the full deposit. Just as our guest would not consider selecting our property in the future we would not be willing to accept their request. This property is our home when it is not rented. We lovingly maintain it as such No property owner wants a review such as this. We continue to strive for a very high level of satisfaction and to have our guests fully satisfied st a 5 STAR level.

Comfortable and inviting

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with 3 generations of my family, and everyone had a great time! My husband and I stayed in the loft and were able to enjoy a quiet sunrise on our own patio. My married son (with no children) stayed in the Jamaican suite on the first floor, and opened up the bathroom for everyone to use. My son and his wife with their the children shared the lower floor. It has 3 large bedrooms, a very large living room, and the laundry room, plus a refrigerator they could store food in. It worked great as the bedroom doors were solid and we could stay up late and not disturb their sleep. We enjoyed campfires, bocce, crab fishing, and all the water equipment that was there. We had brought our own life vests, but didn't need them. There was plenty for all of us. We chose not to bike, but there was plenty of equipment had we chose to do so. If you plan to fish, bring all of your own equipment. There were 2 fishing poles, but no weights, etc. My grandson caught both a fish and a crab in the provided net! We all swam in the bay, and the temperature was gorgeous! We drove to a beach one day, and the bay compared to the ocean temperature was like cold rain to bath water! All except my husband and I tried the paddle board which was definitely the biggest draw once we used it. They have a huge selection of games, including some very new ones, such as Settlers of Catan along with the old favorites. Both the owner Erik, and the agency he uses replied quickly to any questions we had before traveling. The house really was fully stocked, and the only thing we used that we took was our ice machine, and our very large, family size crock pot. We plan to return, if not in 2018 (already have other vacations scheduled), definitely in 2019.

A lovely Christmas getaway

  • 5 of 5

We hosted friends and family for 4 late December nights at Eagles Crossing. The water views are just wonderful - you feel as though you're on a comfortable houseboat. The kitchen is very well equipped which made cooking 4 days worth of holiday meals very easy. The beds are comfortable, and the 2nd and 3rd floor bathrooms are spacious and luxurious. We sat on the deck, took some nice walks in the area, saw two eagles, and enjoyed two gorgeous sunsets. The owner even put up a lovely decorated Christmas tree before our arrival which added to the festive atmosphere. We cancelled dinner reservations in Cambridge our last night there because no one wanted to leave the house! The owner gave us excellent tips and instructions and could not have been more gracious. We definitely would recommend this house, especially for those looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway.

Absolutely ideal place for a gathering

  • 5 of 5

For 25 years our group of college friends and family have gathered in the fall at VRBO houses here and there around Pennsylvania, WV and Maryland for a long weekend. Eagles Crossing has to be one of our all time favorite places, and this year was a return visit. The house is perfect -- deeply comfortable, well equipped, very clean -- and the setting is just incredible. We always cook breakfasts and evening meals in so the excellent kitchen and huge table are an important feature that allow us to relax and share conversation together. The decks and screened porch give access to the outdoors even in rain, and the bald eagles stopped by every day to check us out. Cambridge is a fun little town for eating lunch, and the Blackwater Refuge is a favorite place to walk. The owner has been perfectly gracious for both our visits, very responsive and even agreeing to make accommodations if Hurricane Matthew moved in, though as it turned out we only felt the outer edge of the storm.
