About John and Lorraine
1812 Cottages are historic cottages in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake with all the conveniences of home, thus our motto ... Historic Vacation Cottages (with Newfangled Conveniences).
Why John and Lorraine chose Historic Old Town
The Swayze cottage is named because of it's location beside the Angel Inn. There a historic ghost story of Captain Swayze who died in the Inn in during the War of 1812 and the cottage is on the grounds of his fiance. Enjoy all the conveniences of being in historic old town, while maintaining isolation and serenity.

always a pleasure
I have stayed here for years. John is very attentive should you need anything. Great location. Cozy spot with outdoor space for morning coffee and picnics. A gem in the heart of the city
A historic cottage with period charm. A lovely place, well appointed with kitchenette. This cottage is literally steps away from Queen St. It is a bit dark inside, lighting could be brighter. Overall, we enjoyed it!
Comfortable and convenient
We love staying at the Swayze and Court house cottages. We park the car for the weekend and find ourselves in the heart of Niagara-on-the-lake just a short walk from everything. In the mornings and between plays we enjoy relaxing in the gardens. Evenings we gather in the sitting rooms before retiring to the comfortable beds. A great place to stay with excellent amenities.
Thanks for the wonderful review. We love our little cottage and especially the location!
Lovely cottage in ideal location walking distance to everything in the picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake and close by car to Niagara Falls and other tourist attractions in area. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Niagara area.
We love Swayze Cottage...it's location, it's comfortable beds, it's workable kitchen, it's porches.
We'll continue to go every year

Niagara-on-the-Lake is the original Capital of Upper Canada from 1792 to 1797. Nestled along the shores of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, we hold the distinction of being the only municipality in Canada whose elected head holds the title of Lord Mayor.
Each year millions of people from around the world travel here to experience our Town’s unique charm and historic sites, including Fort George and Brock’s Monument; period-restored heritage homes, top-flight golf courses, breath-taking parks and gardens, as well as over 30 wineries and countless vineyards, many of which produce our world-class ice wine.
In 2012 we launched the 200th commemoration of the War of 1812. Last from 1812 to 1814, and was the only time any country invaded Canada. in 1814, the Town’s Bicentennial Committee will continue to host a range of historical re-enactments and special events dedicated to our role as a major battle site leading to the creation of modern-day Canada.
We hope you will enjoy our Old Town shopping district, which boasts of a number of quaint shops, boutiques and restaurants, fine hotels, spas and bed & breakfast establishments, as well as public and private art galleries, the centuries-old Court House, museums, and of course, the renowned Shaw Festival Theatre.
