One of Canon City's original stone houses, built in 1902 was completely gutted in 2009 from foundation to roof. Everything has been completely restored, preserving the old wooden trim and hardwood floors, yet bringing in new life with all the modern amenities. This 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 full bath, living room, kitchen, pantry, game room, and fenced in backyard, includes large, new high-end windows, 10 foot high ceilings, and many energy efficient features.
The main floor includes an open kitchen and dining table which seats 6, along with a pantry and all things needed to cook a delicious meal. There is a large living room that provides a very comfortable setting with new sofas, cushioned chairs and a large flat screen TV with cable and a DVD player; Internet is also provided.
All three bedrooms present a comfortable atmosphere and act as an oasis for relaxation. The main floor bedroom holds a queen bed and the two upstairs bedrooms hold a queen bed in one room and two twin beds in the other bedroom. There is a balcony w/ seating off the upstairs queen bedroom.
The game room is off the kitchen; a welcome setting for games, darts, poker table, a bar-top and additional room with plenty of storage. This room leads to the fenced in backyard where the patio furniture and gas grill are. Horseshoes in yard adjacent to this.
There are two bathrooms, one on each level of the house. The downstairs bathroom includes a spacious shower and the upstairs bathroom includes a large jetted tub. Stairs separate the two floors and as this is an older house, they are steeper than newer houses.
The house has central air conditioning and central heat, and runs on a tank-less hot water heater. All guests are provided linens and towels. The house sits on 1 acre, is located at a dead end road, and has the east side of the property backed up to the high school fields; therefore the house is located in a quiet neighborhood and has a very secluded feel. There are 2 driveways, one very large and able to park trailers & boats.

I moved here from New York 14 years ago, got married and bought a house. My folks came to visit a few years back and fell in love with the relaxed atmosphere of Canon City, Colorado and decided to buy a house for future visits and hopefully encourage the rest of the family to visit.
Fleur Kaiser purchased this house in 2009
Having always loved old houses, they chose this old stone house built in 1902 that was completely gutted. Then they went back to NY... my husband and I were left with the task of renovation! For four years, we rebuilt this amazing house and poured as much love as possible into it! It was QUITE the TASK!!! Finally we are ready to share this amazing home with others who will also fall in love the area and hopefully provide a place for you and your family to return to year after year as well.
During the rebuilding, we realized that this house was special indeed... EVERYTHING had to be custom built... and I mean everything! The framing, door hanging, sheet rocking, mudding, tile laying, and trim work; you will notice every unique detail in this house. What could be salvaged and refinished was, despite the hours of labor put in to refinishing that old piece of barnwood turned into beautiful wood trim for the doorway! This old house in a renewed gem! You will experience this too, at the first step into the house when you notice the 10 foot ceilings, with 6 foot windows surrounded by gorgeous stained trim that has been collected from around the country from different antique stores.
My husband, Mom and two dogs stayed here for 5 days. We had a wonderful time and found the home clean, comfortable, inviting and safe. It was as great as we expected it to be and Fluer was accommodating and easy to work with.
Perfect location and accomodations for our Thanksgiving visit w/ family in town. Lovely setting, decor is great. Beds comfortable. Kitchen nicely equiped, good water pressure, nicely updated bathrooms and kitchens. Wonderful assortment of games and books. Wished we had more time to play and read. Home was warm, on demand water heater was wonderful, extra blankets were very soft. Great yard, deck off master bedroom was amazing place for sunrises. All wonderful for our visit.
This is the third year we have stayed at the Whipple House. It is so comfortable and cozy. We like that it is close to everything and well stocked with what we need, and Fleur makes check in and check out so easy.
We were delighted that the home was not in a busy area, as might have been perceived from the pictures, although I believe the write up states otherwise. This was a perfect fit for our family of 6, as the hotels were not able to accommodate this many people per room. They provided us with a nice bottle of wine that we shared on the front porch. While relaxing in the early evening, we looked up to see a deer standing within 15 feet of us. She took us in, then kept feeding. Not long after that her two fawns came prancing into the yard. We enjoyed them for at least 30 minutes, until we had to leave. We would definitely stay here again if we ever made another trip to Canon City. Well worth it rather than cramming into a hotel room. Really even worth it for a family of two! While here for 2 nights and just a day and a half, we moved our son into Worldview at the Abbey for a gap year, saw Royal Gorge Bridge, and Skyline Drive.
Options in Canon City (Colorado) can be limited to the usual budget hotel/motel chains and there are plenty of these options available. However, I choose to be more discriminating without beating my budget to death. The Fleur Kaiser Stone House was ideal. It was in a secluded and quiet section of town yet so close to restaurant options and grocery stores. This house was built in 1902 and has been restored with careful attention to the original era. The trim work was inspired from a bye-gone era. The stone work is impressive. I'm left wondering how was the stone work accomplished back in the early 1900s. Had to have been done with hammer and chisel. The upstairs bedrooms have plenty of room. The master bedroom took me back to the early 1900s. One of the great things of this home is the air-conditioning really works well and that is important in Canon City during the summer.
Our hosts were very accommodating. Their customer service and promptness was truly appreciated, in light of the trip being a last-minute decision.
All in all, we are very pleased with our selection of the Fleur Kaiser Stone House and you will be, as well.
What a great stay while visiting Canon City and Royal Gorge. This is a old house that has been restored and that is what makes it special.
The owner Fleur was great to work with. If I get back in that area, I would drive out of my way to stay at the Whipple House again.
In the heart of the Royal Gorge Region, this is a prime location to take part in all the activities in the Southern Colorado Region. We are located less than 10 minutes away from the Royal Gorge Bridge, the Royal Gorge Route Railroad, the Arkansas River which is the most commercially rafted river in the nation, and the top awarded winery in the state of Colorado, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Day trips can be made to all the surrounding areas that include Pikes Peak and the cog railway, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, and Pueblo Reservoir without having to feel the hustle and bustle of those cities. Canon City has a much more relaxed atmosphere than some of the neighboring cities, and we pride ourselves on the friendly locals!
