About Mary Ann Benoit
Hi, Thanks for visiting my site! I am a professional wildlife biologist, pilot, stained glass and jewelry artist, dancer, and B&B owner in Seward Alaska. I try to capture the beauty and wild spirit of the Alaska wilderness in my art and in my home. I started creating my stained glassware after experimenting with creating a martini glass for a friend for his birthday. My friend Eric, a fisheries biologist, has an annual martini party, and I wanted to make a unique glass he could use for the party. Other friends really liked them and wanted their own, and then their friends wanted them too! It soon developed into another great small business. I started working with jewelry in 2008, and continue my love of working with glass as well as beads, silver, natural stones and other materials. My B&B caters to the adventurous traveler and wildlife enthusiast. I designed my B&B to provide all the elements that have enjoyed in my travels. This includes unique character, beautiful decor, privacy, ease of getting to attractions, good personal advice, maps, books and videos on the area, great food and amenities in the room. As a professional wildlife biologist, I love wildlife and hope to inspire your appreciation of wildlife too. I try to combine my diverse interests and passions together through my B&B. My guests enjoy their breakfast with stained glass bowls, coffee mugs, juice and parfait glasses. I sell stained glass and jewelry on site, and guests receive 10% off stained glass gifts. I help my guests find opportunities to see the amazing wildlife and scenery this area offers. Seward is one of the most beautiful places on earth! I hope you will visit, and I look forward to meeting you. Mary Ann

Comfy and cozy room!
Very comfortable room with bathroom beside the room. Everything you need is provided. Very clean, warm and inviting. We would definitely stay again.
Quaint, cozy and convenient.
This was a perfect spot to enjoy Seward. Great location, lovely home with delicious breakfasts right in our own cozy room. Host very helpful and accommodating. We would go back again.
Thank you so much. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure meeting you and having you here and I hope you will come back again!
Since most renters here will be one time I feel obligated to provide an honest review that is not flattering.
We enjoy staying at bed and breakfasts to get that homey feeling away from home. Attic Paradise did not give us that feeling.
First issue was the late 6pm check-in when check out time is an early 10am. Mary Anne let us store our suitcases in her crowded shed when we arrived in Seward that morning. Second issue was the grass length. We had to pull our 80 lbs bags through 8+ inches of grass.
We checked in at 6pm and met Mary Anne. She led us straight to our tiny room and her tour consisted only of that room and the bathroom next door. In this small room was a pretty large table set with lots of dishes. This table made it awkward to get in the closet and the dresser.
Next issue is the bed, which she advertises correctly as an antique double. This bed was very small and creeky. Could not move at all without the bed making lots of noise!
Bathroom was also small but fine. All the linens were nice and clean.
The third issue is that we did not feel welcome in the rest of the house and the only clean spaces were our bedroom and bathroom.
The den is the only area with a view.
Another thing is that she did not offer a laundry service that she advertses and we needed that since she was our mid trip stay. The closet laundry mat is over 3 hilly blocks away, which is far without a car and carrying a bunch of clothes.
Home was indeed decorated nicely and dishes were pretty. This is not a reason to stay here.
We wish we had chosen a hotel. It would have costed the same, offered a shuttle and bag transfer and would have been more spacious. We were glad to get to our cabin on the cruise ship and spread out.
Overall this bnb is expensive for what is offered.
Thank you for your comments. I’m sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I adjusted my check out time to 12 pm to give guests an additional 2 hours. I am flexible and allow earlier check in whenever possible, but my cleaning service is usually not done with the room before that time. I do not advertise a luggage storage service. As a consideration to you, I offered you what I had, a secure locked storage area in my shed. I moved your numerous, heavy bags from the storage area to the room as a service to you. I gave you a tour of the areas you were renting, but not to areas of the house that are private or not part of the rental. Areas included in the rental are clearly stated on my site and am sorry if you did not read the information or thought more of the house included. Sorry you did not enjoy the dining table set with table cloth and cloth napkins, colorful dishes and hand-made stained glass glassware. Most guests enjoy this. I will consider getting a smaller table and chairs to offer more room. I have a cleaning service come in when new guests arrive to clean the rental areas as well as the rest of the downstairs. I am glad you found your room and bathroom to be clean and sorry if you thought the areas you were not renting were not up to your standards. I will discuss this with my cleaning person. I advertise a double antique bed so travelers know in advance the size of the bed. I do not advertise that there is a view from the room. I do offer a laundry service for a fee which is stated on my site, and charge the same amount as the laundromat, offering travelers the same price without the inconvenience of having to leave the house or spend time on laundry. You were aware of that as you enquired about it and the price before your arrival, and I did offer to do the laundry for you at that price after you arrived. You chose not to use it. I agree that many of the hotels in town may offer a more spacious room and some offer shuttle service and luggage storage. They do not cost the same, however. Almost every hotel in town costs $50-$100 more per night than my bed and breakfast, and my B&B is at the low to moderate end of the price range of other B&B’s in town. I did my best to accommodate your needs, welcome you and make you comfortable, including making tour recommendations and arrangements. I will do my best to make improvements where I can for future guests.
My husband and I stayed with Mary Ann for two nights and were very happy with our experience. The first floor room was comfortable, had a private bath right next door and included a table area for eating. Mary Ann prepared wonderful healthy breakfasts and placed them in the small fridge in the room so each morning you could enjoy coffee and your meal in private. I would definitely recommend her B & B to family and friends!
Thank you! It was a pleasure having you stay!
