About Lisa Harris

My husband and I currently live just outside of Blowing Rock. We love the mountains and love to hike, ride motorcycles and just enjoy the view. We want to introduce other people to this wonderful place. I am an interior designer by trade and have worked in the building industry and the furniture industry for years. It comes natural to me to create beautiful spaces for people to live.

Lisa Harris purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Lisa Harris chose Blue Ridge Mountains

Blowing Rock and the mountains of North Carolina have a special place in my heart. It is an intensely spiritual place and being of Native American heritage, I find that I am at peace here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have lived in North Carolina all my life but I didn't move here until 2001. It took me that long to get to Gods country!

What makes this cottage unique

I love coming into this home with its amazing views! The world just slows down when I am relaxing on the decks or in front of the fireplace. It is a quiet place even though it is close to town. We have added extra insulation in all the walls so that you don't hear the hustle and bustle of the outside world. We named this place Elkstone because the original home that was here had special Elkstone rock fireplaces in it. Elkstone is a native rock to this area and you can still see remnants of this stone in the old outside fire pit and in the old stone wall in front of the house. We used this as inspiration when we selected lamps, art work etc. We found an old antique antler chandelier from a castle in Germany that is gracing the entryway. We also found a special lighting sconce from the Mayview Manor which was an old grand hotel that used to be in Blowing Rock. We have tried to stay true to the traditions and history of Blowing Rock.

Perfect home. Perfect view. Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible time staying here. The home is beautiful and the finishes are the highest quality. The view off the back porch is as good as it gets. It's as good as the view from the top of grandfather mountain, and yet you get to wake up to it every morning. Our children and dogs loved playing in the fully fenced backyard. It was literally perfect for us and the location so close to downtown Blowing Rock can't be beat. The only SLIGHT complaint is that the road noise is present at times during the day, although most of the noisy construction seems to be wrapping up at this point and it's really nothing that you notice much after the first day or two. Later at night there's little traffic and you can just watch the sun set over the greatest view we've ever had. And the owner is as kind and helpful as you could hope for. I'd give this pace 6 stars if I could. Perfect.

Fantastic Views, Home and Service

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are quite particular in our travels and this home exceeded our expectations. It is ideally located right off the main road, yet there is no real road noise. The views off the back of the house are beyond scenic and the backyard is beautiful with a fully fenced in area for pets. You get the best of both worlds - secluded backyard with amazing views and tranquility as well as all the restaurants, downtown and grocery stores being a few minutes drive.

The owner Lisa is extremely helpful and replies to questions promptly. The house itself is decorated with thought and the furniture is all very, very comfortable. The master up and master down made it ideal for this weekend getaway with my in-laws. We certainly hope to be return guests. Amazing in every way.

Incredible view but loud

  • 3 of 5

A beautiful home with an amazing view. The challenge with this place is the location is right off the main road. If you like silence, you cannot get that outside as you take in the view. The bird feeder was magical but the sound was different than I anticipated..

Owner's Response: I am sorry that the noise bothered you. Most of the time it is pretty quiet on the back porch and especially on the new beautiful stone patio where you can view Grandfather mountain and the beautiful panoramic views of the mountains. The town in house has the advantage of the views and the close proximity to the village. We are very pleased with the fact that they are mostly complete with the construction of this area of the road. They may still have had some equipment up there in the area and I wish I could have controlled that but I can't. We are working on building a new privacy sound controlling wall just as soon as we can to take care of any noise problems and I hope you will come back again when we get that complete. Please keep us in mind for your future travel to the area, and I will be happy to accommodate you at one of our other properties in the area as well. Just give me a call or a text. We have several other options that I can recommend.

Location and view are hard to top!

  • 5 of 5

Very cool mountain cottage about 3 yrs old. Only negative is that it is right on Hwy 321 (just widened to 4 lane), so the road is very close to the house. You will hear traffic at night as the master bedroom is in the front of the house adjacent to the road. But, it won't keep you awake at night and the road work is coming to an end, so early morning paving equipment should be out of the area shortly.

Now, the pros:

1.THE VIEW. You have an upper level terrace, a first floor porch and a stone terrace in the yard, all of which provide terrific views of the Pisgah National Forest and surrounding mountains. Nobody in BR has a better views.

2. One bedroom down and one up. Both with comfortable queen beds and nice bathrooms with tile showers.

3. Sitting area up and down with nice TV and easy to use cable.

4. HUGE kitchen with great island. Plenty of cookware, plates, etc.

5. Location: 1.25 mi to downtown Blowing Rock. Walkable. About 3 mi to the Parkway. 8 mi to Boone. 1 mi to Gideon Ridge (fine dining restaurant in BR). Food Lion about 1 mi away.

6. Nice, comfortable furniture. New appliances. /

7. Two couples would work easily in this house and nobody gets the "small" bedroom.
