Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2-4

Welcome to The Cottage on Creekside Commons. This secluded getaway offers the best of both worlds: a beautiful, rural setting with an easy 10 minute drive (or 30 minute scenic bike ride) to both downtown Eureka and downtown Arcata.

Creekside Commons is a beautiful jointly owned five acre retreat in the heart of the redwoods. Our goals include eliminating boundaries and pursuing common goals when possible. One goal we have in common is to be able to provide a healing and restful retreat for our guests. Whether you choose to stay at the Cottage or the Cabin we hope your stay with us is rejuvenating and adventuresome.

The Cottage is a cozy and clean 1-bedroom retreat with handcrafted and artistic touches throughout. The sitting room can easily be turned into a second private bedroom for an additional two guests. Step outside the backdoor and into an enchanted redwood grove, enjoy fresh vegetables from our organic garden, luxuriate in the outdoor bath or spend an evening by the fire pit.

We are excited to be able to offer an on site massage therapist. Ryan Knotts has 9 years experience as a massage therapist and is trained in many massage/bodywork modalities including:

Swedish techniques for those who want a relaxing massage that increases circulation and decreases stress, deep tissue/ therapeutic body work for those who have specific ailments, clothed body work and energy massage for those who prefer a stretching style or Reiki style massage and acupressure for those who prefer pressure point and meridian therapy. His focus is on listening to the body and breath, and finding ways to work with the client to exact real change in the muscles and overall health.

There's plenty to see and do in the area. Enjoy events such as the Kinetic Sculpture Race, North Country Fair, Film Festivals and weekly farmer's markets. Humboldt county has multiple wine tasting rooms and craft beers. Live music and theatre are cornerstones of Humboldt county culture. For the outdoor adventurer, enjoy the majestic redwood forests, guided birdwatching tours, miles of coastal beaches and sunny days at inland rivers.

Cozy and unique is right!

  • 4 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our time at the cottage. The setting was bucolic and charming and the cottage itself was quite cozy, with interesting woodwork, large windows and a nice little fire. It felt very comfortable and was well situated for exploring the region, being pretty much equidistant from the Humboldt Redwoods Park (Avenue of the Giants) and the Redwoods Park. Eureka itself was a very charming town with lots of interesting little shops.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay. Everyone on the property (Tanya, Calder, John, and Janet) were gracious and helpful hosts. They answered all of our questions about the area and gave us the scoop on the best places to visit. Connecting with Calder over our shared passion for mushroom hunting and cultivation was an added bonus.

If you are looking for a run of the mill place to stay, head to Eureka or Arcata. But, if you want to get away from it all and really experience the redwoods and the beauty of this area, stay here. You will find Redwoods out your bedroom window, a nicely maintained cozy cottage with handcrafted appointments, solitude (no TV, nice selection of books, great Internet connection), chemical free cleaning practices, real stainless steel cookware (no old skillets with flaking Teflon here), and an extra comfy bed with a down duvet.

You will be away from it all but in a great location to experience everything! Thanks for sharing this magical place.

Peaceful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was absolutely a piece of heaven on earth. My family and I absolutely loved everything about it - cozy, clean and made up feel like we were basically sleeping in the midst of the trees and forest.Staying in this cottage was a nice reminder of the things that really matter in this world. As a family, we will forever cherish the memories built on your land and we can't thank you enough for that. Peace :)

Amazing location

  • 5 of 5

We drive the 13 hours to Humboldt County for love of the woods, so this was the perfect place for us to stay. The property is right in the woods and though there is a 10 minute drive to either Eureka or Arcata, the road is beautiful. The cottage is well sufficiently well appointed and comfortable and the owners feel more like good neighbors than property managers and that is always a plus. When we decide to brave the drive again, we will definitely look into Creekside Commons as our first choice of places to stay.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed your romantic cottage in the redwoods so much. It seemed very private, quiet, and secluded. We had rain and fog that made it seem surreal and magical. We found a Safeway store very close and had a home cooked meal accompanied by our wine purchase from an earlier winery tour. The surroundings were perfect for a romantic get away.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good things about our stay back in May. We are a couple from Arizona and we flew out to Eureka with our toddler son so that we could fulfill a Bucket List trip we had been wanting for years: to see (and touch! and smell!) the Giant Sequoias. We chose the cottage and couldn't have been more pleased. It was the perfect size for us, an active family with an active little boy. We opted for the sitting room to be turned into a bedroom for our son. The view from that room is amazing. The main bedroom was comfortable too. The kitchen and bath were all that we needed. No TV here, but we were happy with that, and we had electronic devices anyway and the Wi-Fi was problem-free. The best part about this little cottage is the grounds, my son had so much freedom to run around and explore, with no one to bother us, and a very interesting organic garden as an added bonus. We did see the Giant Sequoias, as well as some of the coast. Wonderful stay. Having the owners onsite is never a concern for us, this is the 2nd time we have stayed somewhere where the owners were onsite. And once again, Tanya and Calder proved that it is beneficial more than a burden. They were gracious, we had privacy, and when we did go to talk to them, they gave us great information about the area. The weather stayed perfect the whole time. I wore light pants and a Tshirt and jacket, my husband wore shorts most of the time. Great vacation destination, we couldn't have been happier.
