About Francella & Graham Swindell

Travel Junkies, who have been all around the world, we live in the mountains of Colorado and work to protect both the mountains and ocean habitats, as we appreciate the unique critters that call each place their home. Working as president of our local Audubon Society and other environmental organizations, we are lucky to have the best of both worlds between our hometown in Colorado and our little paradise in Costa Rica. We bought this private group of 6 brand new units so that we would be able to sell 5 of them and keep one for ourselves, and our family and friends to be able to appreciate the magic. Try a rental and you may want to become a part time local like us!

Francella & Graham Swindell purchased this condo in 2013

Why Francella & Graham Swindell chose Nosara

In our many years of travel, we had not come across the perfect beach life - until Playa Pelada. This region inspires us. A mix of fiercely protected land and water with sparse enough development to allow for awesome restaurants, bars, health foods, and anything else to spoil - and the most stunning sunsets imaginable! Since we are conservationists, we are impressed by the pathway's motion activated down lighting, used to keep the hatching turtles on track to the ocean, the use of the laundry's gray water in the garden, and compost pits for us all to use. We feel proud to be a part of sustainable tourism.

To top it off, we found the perfect property managers and your gracious, English speaking, Costa Rican/American hosts. They are very caring, intelligent, organized, and a very respected property managers. They will take good care of you, including their knowledge of all local activities for adults and kids, and even car rental discounts.

What makes this condo unique

We purchased this property after our 5th visit to the Nosara area. We looked at many others and decided this one Has it All! Standing on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world right in front of the Villas really grabbed us, then add the new beautiful luxury condos and the peaceful community of Villas las Palmas with its gardens, tiled pool, free laundry room, and security guard. We were sold.

While we consider the beach, tide pools, ocean, fresh water pool, and wildlife the main amenities, (turtles nest and hatch right on our beach and monkeys can be found right out back), our managers can help you arrange side trips to any of the other local attractions. This is the ideal spot to learn to surf as well as improve yoga skills or become a teacher at the Nosara Yoga Institute. The wonderful close knit community of Villas Palmas is home to many long-term friendly residents who are happy to help with suggestions and tips galore. Step Out of Bounds and come Watch Nature's Big Screen for a change! Please remember that this beautiful beach community is also surrounded by tropical forests and that Costa Rica is still an emerging tourist nation. You may experience wi-fi outage, the dirt road into Nosara is long and dusty; basically you are on a luxury adventure with amazing wildlife, restaurants, and people, but be prepared to think young!

average rating of 4.7 based on 10 reviews

Really clean and comfy and pretty set up as far as Cooking needs.

  • 3 of 5

Fran and Graham were so lovely, super helpful, responsive and kind. The condo is super clean and comfortable in a pretty rustic setting. It is definately lacking in beach goodies. It is set back a lot further from the beach than we imagined. The beach itself was not super swim / surf friendly so we walked to Guillones which was awesome. Not an ideal spot if you have kids.

The property and beach pristine! Spectacular hosts too!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 6 days here...plenty close to surrounding activities; surfing, fishing, kayaking, shopping, dining....all within 5-15 minutes!

Special thanks to our hosts; Fran and Graham, they made our stay even better.

La Lagarta Lodge perffy for a sunset dinner. La Garza great for fishing and swimming. NOsara Tico surf was amazing; our two teen boys were surfing by weeks end on their own.

We had a lovely time...thanks again! PUra Vida!!

A wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned (April '17) from five nights at Villas Las Palmas. Fran and Graham are awesome: so helpful in getting us to the condo (ask for their handy map!), checking us in, answering all sorts of random questions along the way, helping us with dinner reservations at La Luna, etc. The condo was super-clean (a real feat in dry season, with so much dust and sand), spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. The location is amazing; steps from the very nice pool and a short path out to magnificent Playa Pelada. Leave time to stroll along the water (you can get all the way to Guiones to the south, over the path by the old hotel), to boogie board right out from the condo at high-tide and spy super-cool creatures at low-tide. And of course, to watch beautiful sunsets every evening. Get up with the sun and walk out the front door then to the south, and you'll hear/see howler monkeys and all sorts of birds in the trees, too. Nosara town is easy to get to from here (be ready for the roads in general -- an adventure for a spoiled US family used to paved everything), with good shopping. Great restaurants nearby on the beach and off (very favorite: Il Peperoni). Tons of adventures await... We highly recommend this place, especially because of Fran and Graham. THANK YOU again for a fabulous visit.

Perfect month!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful month in this Nosara condo. It was our second visit and we hope to return next year. Mary and Shep made sure we had everything we needed - a reliable water source, a/c throughout plus ceiling fans in each room, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds with new sheets, washer/dryer availability inc detergent. But best of all were the blue skies, beaches that extend for miles, a beautiful pool where friends gathered every day, flowering gardens, crazy bird songs...a bit of paradise. Good restaurants within walking distance and in nearby Playa Guiones. Best to have a car to explore the area, like Marbella, Samara, San Juanillo. Monteverde is about 3.5 hrs by car, Liberia about 2 hrs. Be prepared for hot, sunny weather in Jan and Feb. Love this place, the people, the relaxed, easy going vibe - pura vida at its best.

Fantastic vacay Jan-Feb 2016

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, and another couple spent 10 days in one of the beautiful lower condos. The rooms were clean and comfortable, each with its own full bathroom. Appliances all worked well and dishes/cutlery etc were all provided. While the condo didn't have TV or a stereo, the internet signal was strong and allowed us to stream music through our devices. The property was beautifully kept, and the pool and grounds were very well maintained. The beach was a 2-min walk from the pool down a short path. The shared laundry facilities, detergent, and weekly house keeping were a great bonus! Nearby restaurants were great and did not disappoint - La Luna, on the beach, was fantastic for watching the sunset and for steak and seafood; Il Pepperoni had delicious pastas and open-oven baked pizzas; El Chivo's had the Costa Rican equivalent of pub-food and we were able to watch the Superbowl there! The supermarket was only a quick 10 minute drive away - Super Nosara had everything we needed. In terms of wildlife, there were lots of monkeys, birds, iguanas and stray dogs and cats. We even saw a sea turtle laying eggs on the beach and lots of fish in the tide pools. We will definitely be returning, and have already recommended it to several friends! Thanks Mary and Tiffany for the hospitality. :)

January 2015 - Trip to Nosara

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this condo for 12 days and had a wonderful time visiting Costa Rica for the first time. I recommend if you like music to bring your portable speaker and I-pod. The condo does not have a TV or stero. I didn't miss the TV but did miss my music. The Nosara area is very nice with lots of howler monkeys, turtles, birds, and good restaurants (Il Pepperoni, El Chivo, and wonderful Gelato at the Seekretspot). We walked the beach every morning into Playa Guiones for breakfast and/or lunch. The roads are not paved so walking the beach is much nicer. We saw baby turtles crawling from their nest and make their way towards the ocean which was truly amazing!!

In a country virtually synonymous with 'eco-tourism', Nosara, located on Costa Rica's Gold Coast, is ranked 'World's Coolest Surf Town & Best Beaches on Earth' by Travel & Leisure and is on the N.Y. Times list of 'Best Places to Go'. 'It is remote and accessable, basic and grand, for athletes and people that just want to relax.'

With many secluded little places with excellent food and bars with live music, it is an ideal spot to learn to surf as well as a chance to attend the internationally respected Nosara Yoga Institute or one of the other more intimate studios. Nearby, Ostional National Wildlife Refuge was created to protect one of the world's most important nesting beaches for the Olive Ridley Turtle.

To arrive from Liberia allow at least 2 - 3 hours. Best to leave in the morning or by 2:00 p.m. Do not drive from the airport to Nosara at night. The road can be confusing in the dark and if you have trouble it will be difficult to find someone to help, as the beach communities go to bed early. There is a nice Hilton Garden Inn near the airport where you can get your first tropical "fix" at their pool, bar and restaurant. (Their restaurant often closes by 8:00 p.m.)

When leaving Nosara to go to the airport do not cut it close. The road can be closed from an accident and you may be late. Again, best to relax at the Hilton and get the airport shuttle the next morning.

I also recommend taking Gypsy Cab to and from the Liberia airport or hotel - either shared or private. You can arrive and leave with an experienced driver who knows the best places to stop for lunch, bathrooms, beaches, etc. In Nosara you can rent a car.

To arrive from San Jose, allow 4-5 hours.
