Why Randy Knight chose San Francisco Bay Area

We fell in love with Dillon Beach and searched for quite a while to find the right property. We knew in an instant this house was perfect for us the first time we saw it. It's huge and all of the rooms are very large, open and bright. The quality of construction and finishes are also far better than the vast majority of homes on the coast and the views are fantastic. Come enjoy our home. We're sure you will love it too!

What makes this house unique

The thing that sets this home apart from most is the spaciousness. It is perfect for any type of large group or family. We have several renters that come back on a regular basis for ladies groups; scrap booking; book clubs; seminar retreats and annual vacations. The huge living room and kitchen are perfect for entertaining and it is great to be able to seat 12 for dinner in the dining room.

Eh..

  • 3 of 5

Our stay at Sea Filly was a little mediocre. First the good: the house was clean, the views are to die for (every night we watched the sunset from the deck), the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook, it was nice to have a propane grill, the game room gave us something to do at night, lots of movies, it was nice to have two washers and dryers, the kitchen table was big enough for our whole family to sit around. Now the bad: the water heater ran out of hot water really fast and if you're staying in this house to full capacity only one or two people get hot showers. The shower head in the basement was little more than a trickle- it needed to be tightened as more water came out the back of the shower head than the front. The tack strip on the carpet by the back door out to the spa would poke you every time you walked out the door- not so good when you're going out barefoot to the spa. Some of the bedding was unclean and had stains, others had holes in them. There were a lot of notes posted around the house and rules to follow that made the house feel unwelcoming- don't take the chairs outside, bring the cushions in, conserve water, blah blah blah. All things a half considerate person would already do.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay. I want you to know that a mediocre experience is not acceptable to us and I am VERY sorry to here of some of the things that you mentioned. We installed a new tank-less hot water heater less than 9 months ago so I need to have someone look at it to see what is wrong. We have that system in place so that you never run out of hot water. We'll inspect all bedding and replace anything with stains and holes immediately. We'll also look into the other issues right away. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, it will be much better if you come back. Randy

Great place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for 5 days. Grandparents and two families with kids. The place is large and well equipped for cooking meals together. Dillon Beach is pretty remote so we brought all our food with us. It was nice that there is a second refrigerator in the theater room. Would be nice if there were more silverware.

While the pool table was not particularly level, it did get a lot of use. That and the hot tub were big draws for our family. The large theater room was a nice treat.

The beds were comfortable.

I'd say the biggest negative was the wind at Dillon Beach. We brought bicycles but the wind was too strong to ride anywhere. The only other negative was the remoteness from stores, restaurants and even hiking. Still a great getaway to spend time together.

Spacious!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I invited our family to spend Memorial Day weekend at Dillon Beach – ten of us in all, and there was still room for more! The living spaces are HUGE!

The house is slightly "worn", but you have to expect that in a place that is rented out all the time. Sometimes, renters don't take care of things the way they should. One of the blinds in the living room was missing, so when the afternoon sun came in, it was blinding! And if you wanted to use that room for sleeping, as the site suggests, you'd have to be OK with the window not being covered. Also, the pocket doors that would close it off, are broken and cannot be closed.

Needs improvement: The shower head in the downstairs bathroom needs to be replaced. The wifi is REALLY slow! There is no electrical outlet in the walk-in closet upstairs, where there is a daybed, so if someone sleeps in there, they can't plug in their phone, lamp, or whatever they might want next to their bed. Also, in the master bathroom (HUGE!), there is only one outlet, on the wall at the end of the sink counter, and it is installed incorrectly, so that if you have a hair dryer, etc, with a large polarized plug, it won't fit! (A fairly easy fix for the landlord – just turn the outlet box around!) Another outlet or two in both the master bath and the closet would be appreciated (not as easy). Also, with only two bathrooms, and the possibility of a large group, providing a little privacy for anyone using the upstairs bathroom would be nice. Since there is no door from the master bedroom to the bathroom, it is all open and exposed. Hanging a curtain over the bathroom entrance would be a good idea.

The positives include: a very well equipped kitchen (even a Vitamixer!!) We found pretty much everything we needed to make our meals, and then some! Beds were comfortable for the most part (trundles in the double daybed room, not so much). The game/theater room is great, but I can't say anything about the Murphy bed because we didn't use it. Some of us enjoyed using the spa.

It's a long way to the beach, and if you walk, it's all up steep hills back, so you'll probably want to drive, and parking is $10. There is a small general store near the beach, with a decent variety of supplies, but you will want to bring groceries with you.

FYI: The cost estimate on HomeAway was $300 less than what we ended up paying. The credit card processing fee was $74 more, and taxes were $225 more than the quote we were given.

Beautiful and spacious home with ocean view

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 12 women needing to find a place to have a work retreat. The Sea Filly was the answer! Plenty of room for us to be in the same room together. Dining room seats 12. The home sleeps 12 comfortable. No one needs to sleep on the couch. Well appointed living room with plenty of seating. We had a wonderful stay! This home would be perfect for your family reunion or work retreat.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review. For some reason this house is a favorite for women's groups and we have a lot of loyal groups that have been coming for years. I think that it's the huge kitchen and living room that allows everyone to be together with plenty of space. I hope that you become one of those groups that we see back often. Randy

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The Sea Filly was a great place to stay! We have a group of 11 folks who all slept very comfortably. The ocean views were good, not the best in Dillon, but good. The house itself was very open, very comfortable and full of just about everything we needed. Pretty much all cooking supplies you could need are there. We cooked everything from homemade pasta to rib roasts and had plenty of space and utensils to do so. The beds were comfortable, too. An added bonus was that the rules for the house were pretty easy and not overbearing. I would recommend this place to stay for any group looking to be close with one another in a setting where the kitchen can be the focal point of the trip.
