About Rosemary Hopkins

We live in Palo Alto, California for most of the year, but I have been spending part of my summers in Seal Harbor since I was 12 years old. Now we use the house for yearly vacationing with our children and grandchildren.

Rosemary Hopkins purchased this House in 1954

Why Rosemary Hopkins chose Mount Desert

My father, who was President of Harvard University at the time, purchased the house from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., in 1954. It has served as the ideal family vacation gathering spot ever since.

What makes this House unique

Large, comfortable home in a prime location with all the amenities one needs for a relaxing time with friends and family. Proximity to Acadia National Park allows for unlimited opportunities for hiking, bird-watching, etc. Seal Harbor itself is a protected harbor popular with Maine lobstermen and summer home owners.

This is a great house for a week with a family gathering of nine people. The only disappointing factor was on arrival none of the outdoor furniture had cleaned off or put and the back doors were still boarded up. The towels we're very old and needed replaced. Otherwise the house was great and in a very convenient location.

                                                            Owner's Response:

I am sorry the house was not opened properly. We changed to new cleaners this year, and clearly they failed to do the routine opening- this won't happen again !

                                                            Great house

House has real charm and can accommodate a lot of people without feeling crowded. The deck is huge and the view wonderful. Kitchen had everything one could want (including two sinks). Very comfortable. We were interested in spending time at Wildwood Stables which was very close by.

Perfect Spot For Relaxing With Family And Friends

This spacious home is the perfect location on Mount Desert Island to relax with family and friends. An easy stroll to Seal Harbor gives you access to a gorgeous beach, a wonderful little coffee shop, antique stores and more...along with trail access to Acadia... The deck is great for an evening cocktail. The house is comfortable and relaxed - with plenty of space for a large group to enjoy family meals, read books, and play cards. We had a lovely visit and are already planning our next one!
