About the property

[Your Space]

Your room, 14 sqm, is equipped with a 160cm wide double bed, a desk, a flat screen tv and a huge wardrobe, which is equipped with a safe.

You will have exclusive access to a 6 sqm bathroom which has a very large shower, as you can see in the pictures.

In the room there is a big window with double glazing to maximize isolation. The window has shutters in case you prefer to block out lights.

The room has high ceilings and is equipped with air conditioning (during summer) and heating (from November to mid April, as per local regulations).

Therefore you will have 20 sqm of personal space. In addition to this, there is the kitchen and the dining room that add another 24 sqm of shared space that is available to you. The apartment is located on the first floor, just 24 steps up from the street level. This building dates back to 16th century, so no, it doesn't have an elevator. :)

You can use the kitchen and the dining room whenever you like. In the dining room you will find:

the fridge (where we will leave some space for you), the cupboards and an antique wooden table where you can eat your meals.

We are quiet people and we would like to rent our room to equals, so to say. :) You can easily lock your room if you want, but even if you leave it wide open, we do not access it during your stay.

Our schedule is usually quite hectic so we are not very often at home.

When we are home we enjoy spending most of the time in "our area" even when we have no guests. This means that the only thing you are likely to share with us is the kitchen, giving you almost as much privacy as you would get if you were to rent a private apartment.

We enjoy meeting people and so far the sharing experience has been pleasant. We love Florence and we will be happy to share tips, recommend restaurants or help you figure out what to visit.

[The Neighborhood]

The apartment is located in the very heart of Florence. The area is filled with nice restaurants, trattorias, gelaterias and many other kinds of eateries.

The Palazzo Vecchio is exactly in front of us and is home to the famous Salone dei Cinquecento, which is supposed to be the location where the Leonardo Da Vinci's painting, "Battle of Anghiari", should be hidden. On top of the Palazzo Vecchio you find the Torre di Arnolfo, which can now be visited and offers spectacular views of Florence and surroundings.

Your bedroom is right in front of Palazzo Vecchio side entrance, which was created during the last expansion of the building.

Above the entrance there is a great Medici coat of arms and the words "Cosmvs Medices Floren Dux MDL", basically you will be living in front of an historical building that is over 500 years old.

Distances by foot from major attractions

Ponte Vecchio: 450 m, 6 minutes;

Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens: 900 m, 11 minutes;

Uffizi Gallery: 150 m, 2 minutes;

Palazzo Vecchio: literally across the road;

Duomo, Giotto's belltower and Baptistery: 400 m, 5 minutes;

Accademy: 1.1 km, 13 minutes;

Basilica Santa Maria Novella: 1.0 km, 12 minutes;

Piazzale Michelangelo: 1.4 km, 20 minutes;

Distances from points of interests

Supermarket 5 minutes walk;

Restaurants, Bars, Trattorias, Pizzerias and a few take aways are within 3 minutes walk;

Florence SMN (main train station) 15 minutes walk or 10 by taxi;

FLR Airport is roughly 30 minutes away (by taxi).

[Getting Around]

You can literally walk anywhere and we advise you to do so... You will be staying in the heart of Florence, so basically everything is walking distance.

The historical centre of Florence is filled with tiny one way streets and pedestrians areas, so it's easy to walk everywhere while driving around the city is not for the faint-hearted. :P

Moreover, parking facilities start at 20 Euro per day. For such reasons, we believe that it might be advisable to do NOT have a car in Florence.

[Other Things to Know]

* Check ins are usually between 5pm and 11pm. Check ins outside those hours, late check out and luggage deposit are subject to availability and might incurr in an extra fee. We recommend that you contact us to arrange a check in time preferrably 3 days prior to your arrival. Check ins past 11pm have to be agreed at the time of booking.

* Visitors are not permitted. Only registered guests can access the property;

* All guests must be 18 or older, or be accompanied by their parents;

* We like to know who we host, therefore we tend to prefer those guests who have on their profiles, a phone number and an email address, along with one real picture;

About Alessandro & Natasha

We got married on October 2011, I am a Florentine born and raised while Natasha moved here from a small city close to Novosibirsk, Russia.

Natasha likes shopping... I like football, she loves reading and I love music, we both love eating, travelling and watching some TV shows like Big Bang Theory for example.

I'm the tech savvy person and she's the handy person, so the worst mistake you can do is ask Natasha to help you with your smartphone or ask me to help you use the washing machine. :)

For what concerns hosting, we are happy to answer any kind of question about our properties, but we will appreciate if you can verify if the answer is available on the property page first.

Moreover, we both have full time jobs with shifts that change weekly, so there is not a specific day off or time off during the day.

During low season sometimes we can also let you check in early, something that usually can't happen on peak season for obvious reasons.

Alessandro & Natasha purchased this apartment in 1970

just steps from Uffizi

  • 4 of 5

The private room and bathroom are in the apartment shared with the owners. They are very nice and helpful people, greeted us with drinks and appetizers; provided with a map and recommendations of their favorite places to visit and eat. The apartment is cozy and super clean. It is kind of a first floor but high above ground (no elevator). It is just steps from Uffizi Gallery and close to Dome. Because of this great location it was quite noisy at night and early in the morning (from 5 am) - merchants drugging their carts, people enjoying night life. We also got "lucky" that the road was under construction during our stay.

Recommend this place.

Please keep in mind that the protection insurance is mandatory.

Florence for the independent traveler

  • 4 of 5

Maison Orange was the perfect place to stay for my first visit to Florence. The hosts greeted me the first evening with traditional florentine appetizers, spent time going over the map and they made wonderful recommendations for the best places to eat and shop and have gelato! They provided comfortable and private accommodations .. My private bedroom and bathroom along with shared access to the kitchen and dining room, including laundry facilities.

The location was perfect for exploring all of Florence and had a beautiful view of palazza vecchio. Florence is not a quiet place so there is a lot of street noise but this is easy enough to adapt to. If you're a light sleeper bring ear plugs no matter if you stay here or the five star hotel Bernini down the street. It is a very active city.

As an independent traveler this was the perfect place to venture from. There is every gallery and cathedral and museum within walking distance. Every shopping area and every restaurant are easily accessed on foot. All transportation is readily available including train and taxi service. Ponte Vecchio and the river are just down the street.

The hosts speak excellent English and were so friendly and helpful. They are very caring and considerate. I enjoyed my time all the more for having stayed with them. They were rarely home and very respectful of my privacy. I recommend this home for people who don't require the attention of a hotel.
