Elegant quiet and private, with view over gardens to Notre Dame & Sacre Coeur

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 6 nights

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

The first thing to know about this apartment is that it is located within strolling distances of so many wonderful bakeries!

Oh yes, and landmarks too - Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens, Jardin des Plates, the Sorbonne, the Seine, Boulevard St. Germain, etc. are all just minutes away - yet the apartment is so peaceful and airy, looking over trees and green gardens to the spires of Notre Dame (and Sacre Coeur - off in the distance on the hill of Montmartre). Even in the kitchen you have a big window to look out while you wait for your coffee to brew.

It is on the top floor of a 4 floor walk up (it`s a typical old Latin Quarter building) but as soon as you walk through the door you are in your own Paris world. No feet pounding over your head at midnight! As the building is situated in a courtyard behind the street building, one hears almost no traffic/restaurant noise.

But when you head out, you will find yourself in the beating heart of old Paris.

Rue Mouffetard, the oldest street market in France is close by.

Hemingway, James Joyce, George Orwell - all lived in this corner of the Latin Quarter and Woody Allen`s 'Midnight in Paris' was filmed just up the road.

If you need to get somewhere in a hurry, you will find a metro at either end of the little cobblestone street (rue des Boulangers, 75005 Paris for google earth!)

Better still, we have 5 brilliant bus routes that take you all over Paris - for example - the #86 winds through tiny left bank streets ( you could almost touch the lovely shops sometimes) and 20 minutes or so later you have stopped right under the Eiffel Tower. And at the other end of the street there is the #67 which crosses the Seine and winds up through various neighborhoods to Montmartre (about 45 minutes) So much cheaper and more fun than a tour bus! If you get a weekly pass you can get off in an area you would like to explore and then get back on again later. Such a nice way to get to know Paris.

There is supermarket across the street , open until 10pm every night (except Sunday). And of in addition to the bakeries there are lovely food shops to drool over everywhere you turn. That`s when you appreciate the stairs!! There`s a very friendly cafe on the corner, Le Petit Cardinale, where you can pop in for whatever you fancy from 8am until midnight daily. Or just sit outside and people watch for hours.

As for the apartment itself:

It has one bedroom, but it sleeps 3 comfortably.

The king size bed in the bedroom is actually 2 twin beds if needed, and the sofa in the sitting room is a proper custom made sofa bed. There is a walk in closet.

In the bathroom the shower is attached to the wall above the bathtub. There is also a bidet.

The kitchen is small but well equipped, and there is a microwave/convection combo oven and a 3 ring gas stove top. Also a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, etc.

I have tons of books, including guidebooks, an eclectic selection of CDs. and an apple laptop with wifi connection. Oh, and TV with CNN,BBC news, etc.

Finding a place to rent in Paris can be daunting as there is SO much choice online these days, some of it a little misleading, so you do need to be wary, and if you have any questions you would be wise to telephone and speak to the owner.

This may be a special trip for you, an anniversary perhaps , and you want to be sure you find somewhere to stay that lives up to your expectations and will enhance your Paris experience so you will have memories for a lifetime.

In this case, this IS my home, and I have set it up accordingly, so it has the comforts and atmosphere of a real home, not a rental unit.

I come over from San Francisco twice a year for a 2 month stay, and bring whatever creature comforts I find lacking in Paris!

If you think my apartment might be a good fit for you, just e.mail me with any and all questions, and feel free to call me too. (415) 533 8871. That`s in San Francisco.

All the best,

About deirdre slevin

Originally from Dublin, I live now in San Francisco and lucked into my apartment in Paris 14 years ago.

I knew as soon as I walked through the door and saw the light and the view that despite the 4 flights of stairs, this was IT!! So peaceful and airy.

It helped that it had just been beautifully renovated by an Italian and her architect, who had maximized the space while keeping the architectural details.

But I had to live in it to fully appreciate how brilliantly convenient the location is, even though I had previously lived in 3 different and very nice parts of Paris, including one in another part of the Latin Quarter - even closer to the river and Notre Dame, but jammed with tourists and fast food joints.

The 2 different metro lines and 4 buses within moments of the front door are something for which I give thanks on a daily basis as I go about my daily life without a car.

My friend Marie-Noel, who manages the apartment and greets guests, grew up on the Left Bank (she lives just down the road) and she gives real insider advice on the neighborhood.

We both want our visitors to have their stay live up to their hopes, and they do seem to, judging by all the kind and appreciative comments they write in the guest book.

Cheers, and have a fabulous time in Paris wherever you end up staying.

Beautiful apartment. Great neighborhood. Very caring host.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful one bedroom Latin Quarter walkup on the 4th floor. We were met when we arrived and everything was explained to us in English. Host suggested sites to see and ways to get around. The apartment has maps and guidebooks you can use. English language TV was available as well as no cost phone calls to landlines in the US. Host arranged a taxi for us when we left and came to see us off.

We would definitely stay here again and I recommend it highly.

Perfect Apartment

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this wonderful Latin Quarter apartment 3 times. It just keeps getting better. The fantastic windows that open. On Sundays all the bells chiming. It is the most central location as well and a wonderful neighborhood.

I would recommend it to all.

Perfect Parisian Experience!

  • 5 of 5

This delightful apartment was a highlight of our Parisian adventure! My teenage daughter and myself revelled in the cosy comfort that awaited us after each day of sightseeing. Being able to cook our own meals, after wandering through the fabulous nearby markets, choosing from the best of fresh produce, was a particular delight. The location was a true bonus, being situated literally a couple of minutes walk between two Metro stations on different lines, which made it so easy to plan our outings. Having laundry facilities was also a real benefit, saving us time at the laundrette, (it's also so much cheaper!). But it was the 'home like' quality that really delighted us - lovely plates and dishes, a wonderful CD selection, books, etc - all made our stay so much more relaxed than a hotel, or a normal rental place. We couldn't recommend this highly enough, and will definitely be back!

A Cozy place to be when you wind up sick.

  • 5 of 5

This charming apartment turned out to be not only beautiful, but a little slice of heaven when my friend and I came down with terrible colds on our recent visit to Paris. The beds were warm and cozy with lovely duvets. We could adjust the heat to our liking and their was loads of bubbling hot water for those long baths one needs when they feel terrible. There was also a great market across the street that had wonderful soup and a pharmacist next door. Although this wasn't what we planned, I know that without the great amenities this wonderful apartment provided, I don't know if we would have survived. Now, I can't wait to go back when I'm well. All I can say's marvelous!

A perfect, light filled, immaculate and charming refuge

  • 5 of 5

On the verge of booking this wonderful apartment for at least the sixth time, I guess it would be the understatement to say that I love this space. Putting aside the fact that it is equidistant between two metro lines, a stone's throw away from the river, Notre Dame, the Mouffetard Market, the Jardin des Plantes and wonderful markets, the apartment is everything that one might hope for in a rental. It is quiet, immaculate, airy, and oh so comfortable. There are floor to ceiling windows, a small but totally functional full kitchen, a very comfortable bed, and lots of hot water. Although the apartment is very cozy it is not cluttered with stuff that gets in one's way, so one has the advantage of being in a real home with the luxury of plenty of closet space for one's luggage and clothing, clean linens, free international calls, wifi, an apple computer, etc. After long days of touring Paris I look forward to returning "home" as I now refer to Deidre's special apt. I have never met her in person but have corresponded with her on multiple occasions as I again book a stay. She and her assistant Marie Noel are like reliable friends who do what they committed to do with a little added flourish and thoughfulness. If I could live in Paris, this would be where I'd choose to reside. Fresh air, trees to gaze upon, the sound of the bells chiming at Notre Dame, a terrific music selection from which to choose, and a home cooked dinner if you are so inclined. And last, the stairs are an opportunity to burn calories and eat more! Just dont book when I want to go there! Bon voyage.

Perfect for our 9 night stay in Paris

  • 5 of 5

After searching though many, MANY apartment listings, my wife and I had narrowed down our search to about 20 or so apartments with two of those being our favorites. We felt so fortunate to have received an email back from Dierdra letting us know that her apartment was available for the 9 nights that we were going to be in Paris.

First, the location in the Latin Quarter was ideal. What wasn't within walking distance from our apartment was easily accessible via the metro of which there was a stop about 2 minutes from the apartment. There are many very good restaurants nearby and we also really enjoyed and took advantage of the two local markets on Rue Monge. As many have already mentioned about the Latin Quarter, this is a very safe area. And certainly around Dierdra's apartment.

So that brings me back to the apartment itself. This is Dierdra's home for roughly six months out of the year, so you really get that homey feel rather than feeling like this is one of many apartments commercially owned an operated by an absentee company. I am sure that those apartments are very nice, but most likely lack that touch of home while you are abroad. We really loved having a well appointed kitchen and made use of it on those occasions when we just wanted a quiet dinner at home after a long day of sight seeing. Having our own quaint living room and table really made those occasions special. Something that is fairly unique is that Dierdra's apartment has both a washer and dryer which really came in handy as we were heading to Italy for another week at the end of our stay in Paris. The queen size bed was very comfortable with the bedroom itself offeing ample closet space as well as room for our four suitcases. The bathroom is fairly standard and very suitable for us during our stay.

I would not hesitate to recommend staying at Dierdra's when you plan your upcoming trip to Paris. She was a pleasure to work with and her apartment was exactly as described and perfect for our stay.
