You might even learn a little Mayan!

The plunge pool in the backyard will keep you cool as well as air-conditioning in every room. The home is made for comfort and the rooftop deck will delight you during the cool of the mornings and evenings. Star gaze to your hearts content.
Walking distance to a modern shopping center, Sendero Mall, 5 blocks away, complete with a movie cinema always showing several movies in English and a large grocery store. A walk 5 blocks in the other direction will take you to the delightful Chen Bech mercado for local fruit, veggies and Yucatecan food stalls. Panuchos or salbutes anyone? Watch out for the habanero salsa, it packs quite a punch.
This is a very special little house, lovingly renovated and cared for, in the middle of the magical land of the Yucatan.
Disclaimer. Casa Feliz is not for everyone. While our immediate neighbor to the left is American, if you need to be surrounded on all sides by English speaking people, it might not be the place for you. A rental car is highly recommended, or Uber is very convenient to get around easily. As in most local neighborhoods, ours is a mix of houses of varying economic value. This property does not allow pets or children.

About Owner/ Manager
We had a life long love affair with Mexico and our dreams came true when we bought this sweet house. It was a total wreck, but the moment we saw it, it was filled with light and promise. The artwork is all original, most of it the owners work, the tiles were picked with great care and joy. We personally planted every tree and flower and truly cherish this house. You will feel the love and happiness :)
Owner/ Manager purchased this House in 2009
Why Owner/ Manager chose Centro
The moment we walked in, the house said "welcome". It is bright and happy and we enjoy every minute we spend there. We love the local market "Chen Bech" and the proximity to centro. Our neighbors are so sweet and welcoming and the little store next door is very convenient! Mostly, its a feeling that can't be described. Peace. Rest. A step back in time.

Great city, great prople great house
Casa Feliz was overall a wonderful experience. We did not want to be in the chaos of Centro and we wanted to share in the fabulous Mexico experience. The house was perfect with a Mexico character. Modern enough and still faithful to the experience.
We walked every day, Uber provided easy and cost effective transport everywhere else. The pool was used every day in our 42 day stay. The people that provided services, landscaping, cleaning and oversight of the house were gracious and wonderful. At no time did we ever feel any concern about the neighborhood and the Tienda (store) next door was so convenient and we felt like family when we left. Barbara was very cooperative and provided for all our needs and quickly handled any questions.
We would definitely return to Casa Feliz, and can't wait to do so. Bienvenidos!
Very comfortable and spacious
The good: 1.Very well-equipped kitchen compared to most we've stayed at. 2. Liked the option of A/C in every room even though we didn't need it during our January stay. 3. Very nice, clean home. 4. Very good internet. 5. Very pretty back patio area with pool.
The not so good (took off one star): 1. Lacked second outdoor chaise longue as well as outdoor grill as advertised. (Owner mentioned abuse of latter by prior tenant...left us wondering why future tenants were punished and also left us wondering why it was advertised as having one at the time of our booking) 2. Wasn't really made too clear that electric was a separate bill. Owner claimed it was the usual practice but it was the first time we were ever charged for such.
Overall, one of our favorite rentals. Would rent again.
Hello Colette! I am so glad you enjoyed my house! Creating this happy space has been an act of love. Thank you for contacting me as soon as you had a question about the property, that way I had the opportunity to explain. Its a little odd that even though I did explain, you posted negatively about these issues?
1. Only 1 chaise lounge when 2 were pictured. As I explained, 1 became broken, probably due to the summer heat. I tried to replace it, but was told by every store I went to that they didn't sell chaise lounges "in the winter". I have found one where I live and will be taking it to Casa Feliz next month.
2. No grill. I have removed that from the list of items available. You were by no means being punished by the removal of the grill. As I explained, the former tenant threw hot ashes on a citrus tree, killing it. So, to avoid that kind of problem again, I simply removed the grill. Thank you for alerting me to the fact I hadn't removed it from the listing.
3. Electricity not included in the rste. In the Yucatan, guests paying for their electricity is absolutely standard. We use it very carefully. Its not that it is so expensive, the issue is not running air conditioning when you don't need it. In many places, there is central air and it is left on 24/7. We have to be more careful in Merida.
We are so proud of the amenities of Casa Feliz and the incredible service of our property manager, housekeeper and gardener. I hope you enjoy them all again!!
Good House for two
Spent 22 days at the residence on 32nd Calle, Casa Azul as we had mixed views. My partner felt it was too far away as a number of the days we walked into town and it was hot it appeared the distance got longer. I enjoyed the residence as the little pool was refreshing on hot days, the porch upstairs was my retreat with the only down side being barking dogs. The kitchen was well equipped and I found it easy to cook and the walk to Sorianna’s big store about a 15-20 minute walk away. Cabs from Centro to the residence with tip was around 45-50 peso’s depending on where one caught the cab or if the taxi driver knew where the place was. It is as advertised in a totally Mexican neighbourhood with local laundry, bakery and a number of small stores threw out the area. We had troubles understanding the bus schedule as sometimes the bus deviated from the usual route so a longer walk instead of a block was common. Loved the artwork so congrats Barb. I would definitely book again in the event we return to Merida.
Hello Gordon. Thank you for your review! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We are 12 blocks away from the heart of centro. Many people prefer to be a little distance from the noise of the buses there. Its also a bit hotter right in centro! Now that Uber has come to Merida, that's our method of choice to go to centro, and its only about $2 US. We are definitely walkers, but Merida can get warm.
Ah.....noise! It is my experience that our neighborhood is much more quiet than most places I've stayed in Mexico. Having said that, in general, it is noisier than what we are used to in the US and Canada. Dogs do bark more, as owners don't really teach them not to.
Thank you so much for being a great guest, and for taking the time to review Casa Azul.
A Fabulous Casa in a Fabulous City
I loved my stay at Casa Azul! The house is lovely, with great art work and done in the colors of an artist. It is furnished nicely and has a beautiful patio and back yard, with a pool. I felt both comfortable and safe. You will enjoy the Mexican neighborhood, who are the most wonderful, caring folks. There is a great market a short walking distance for fresh produce, delicious juice, meat, and cafes - with live music on occasional days, Chem Bech. Buses in the neighborhood will take you everywhere, Centro is a bit of a walk, and very doable!
Thank you so much for your review! It was such a pleasure having you as a guest. I'm glad that you enjoyed Casa Azul. You took impeccable care of the house, thank you so very much!
