About the property

A perfect get away with pool

One hour away from Rome in the Sabine Hills I am renting a country house with olive grove (orodimompeo) to people that are looking for an isolated get away.

In the mist of hills, forests, olive groves and rivers this house will excellently host your needs of a peaceful retreat, family time, or historic curiosity.

You will have the chance to explore beautiful nature and historic sites from the house with two master bedrooms, and a large area for lounging and eating in front of a warm fireplace.

One of the most breathtaking parts of this house is the enormous terrace with adjoining pool that overlooks the Roman valley. During the day and night the sites are ever changing and are a reason in themselves to come stay in this house.

About oro di mompeo

I am an architect, painter and farmer. I tend to the property producing olive oil and it would be my pleasure to be able to host you.

oro di mompeo purchased this chateau / country house in 1985

Why oro di mompeo chose Mompeo

The house is about an hour away from Rome and since my family lives in Rome it is for us a perfect get away house. What strikes us each time is the breathtaking view at every hour of the day and at night the endless sky covered in stars.

Maya's place is amazing ! Her home is very private with an amazing view over the valleys and the hills. The swimming pool is a treat and the terrace offers an astonishing view of the magnificent summer sunsets. The house is very confortable and clean and it includes all the necessary amenities. Maya and her family are great people. Their warm welcome and their disponibility is beyond words. We highly recommend this place for spending a dream holiday !

Guests will have access to all parts of the house (except the cantina where we store the olive oil we produce) that include 3 bathrooms, the kitchen, the living room, dining room, the terrace, olive groves, and fireplace.

The owners will not be present during your stay but will welcome you at your arrival and at your departure, and can be contacted for any questions during your stay.

A choice for people looking for an authentic and quiet place. One hour away from Rome and from other cities of interest such as Spoleto, Orvieto, Todi, etc it is an ideal place from which to explore central Italy also offering an easy access to ROME and many other interesting places in the region and of central Italy.

The SABINA area is untouched by mass tourism and keeps all its charm thanks to its hill top towns of Medieval origins. The area is rich in history and would be of great interest to historically interested visitors.

The nearby hilltop towns 3-4 kms away (5-10 mins by car) are Mompeo, Salisano, Montenero. They are tiny medieval towns with coffee bars, small but well furnished delis, pharmacies, and much history. About 20 minutes away is the ancient and important abbey of Farfa with a great restaurant. Farfa also has a nice swimming pool that you can enjoy. As for stores and larger commercial shopping centers there is Poggio Mirteto which is 30 minutes away. The nearest 'city' is Rieti which also about 30 minutes away and it is where you will find everything you need.

An hour away from the house are Orvieto, Spoleto, Todi and of course Rome.

You can look all these names up on Wikipedia to have a better idea of what you can find historically in the area.

The house itself is quiet and isolated and will be a pleasant base to explore towns and nature. You can walk around for miles enjoying nature but will need a car for the delis and the towns.

You will find a brochure at your arrival in the house, with all the nearby restaurants, and helpful indications (nearest gas stations etc) necessary to a pleasant stay.

the grove that surrounds the house produces an incredible olive oil that you can view on

orodimompeo

On the property you will also find cherry trees, fig trees, peaches, persimmon, pomegranate, apples, blackberries and much more that you are free to pick from and enjoy.

Absolutely Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

The house could not have been more perfect for our visit! We stayed for a week and enjoyed it so much we wished it could have been longer. We have been to many different parts of Italy and the Sabine Mountains area is now another set of wonderful memories for us. Lots of picturesque hilltop villages to visit nearby and even though the house is quietly situated it was not far to conduct many day trips around the area. Everything was wonderful - actually better than what we had expected from the photos. The views from the patio of the surrounding area are just spectacular - hard to drag ourselves away each day to tour the area and each night when the sunset was over. The rooms were all very large and very comfortable. Maya is an extremely gracious hostess and helped us out so much by shopping for us so we had food for our first night dinner - such a wonderful, welcoming gesture! We really do hope to see her and her family again.

Owner's Response: Maura and Filippo were wonderful guests. It was a pleasure having them stay. I was very happy they took advantage of the position of the house to explore this still hidden part of the Sabine Hills. I hope they will be coming back to explore the rest !

Come to Mompeo. You will never regret it.

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about our stay in this wonderful house. We stayed for two months and hope to come back next year. The house is quite isolated, but that is what we were looking for. It is essential to have a car and you can rent one in Passo Corese at the train station or in Rome. With three bedrooms and a huge dining table, we were able to have guests come for a week at a time. The kitchen is great for preparing big meals, which is important as there are few options for eating out nearby. The view is spectacular. Surrounded by olive trees with a stunning few across the valley to Mompeo and Salisano, we felt like we were in a painting. There are good places to walk and lots and lots to see in the area. The medieval towns are easily accessible and each is it's own magical experience. The train stations in Poggio Mirteto Scalo and Passo Corese are both about 30 - 40 minutes away. Thanks you so much for your hospitality and responsiveness to our requests. We had some issues with the internet early on, but our host worked diligently to address and resolve this. Come to Mompeo. You will never regret it.

A very enjoyable week in the Sabine

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a beautiful week in the 'Sabine' and this house was a great place to use as a base. We have been to Italy numerous times and every time we come we love it even more. The hills around Rome and all the hilltop towns we discovered on this trip were of unexpected beauty.. an ancient rough beauty. When we got back to the house, we relaxed on the terrace with the most picturesque of views: the Roman Valley seen through two hilltop towns with ever-changing colours.. an ever-changing view.

The house itself was wonderful. My wife used to play the piano when she was younger so she was delighted to find sheet music and a piano and played as much as she could. We found an incredible butcher in one of the towns nearby and barbecued the most tasty meat I had eaten in a long time. The restaurants in the area were also fabulous. There were many 'agriturismi'.. restaurants that serve dishes exclusively made from home grown vegetables and live stock. Quite a few of them were also metas of international culinary experts that even I had heard about. They spoke english and were quite international in experience while remaining rural Sabine at heart. The difference in the dishes is unbelievable and noticeable even to a layman like me.

My wife and the owner were in constant contact via email regarding sites to see and visit. She was incredibly helpful and quick in replying to all our questions regarding the area.

We just might be coming back!

We loved our time in Mompeo!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our month in the beautiful hills of Mompeo. The location of the house was at the top of one of the hills, overlooking the Roman valley and the views were just breathtaking at every hour of the day. We spent plenty of time drinking coffee or sipping wine on the front deck area (equipped with two lounge chairs and an umbrella to block the hot summer Italian sun) and really loved the views and scenery. The home is quiet and solitary - we didn't see many (if any) other people but had the opportunity to eat a delicious, home cooked Italian meal at a neighbor's home (the arrangement was organized by the property owner).

We took advantage of the short distance (1.5 hour scenic drive) to Rome and spent several days driving into Italy's capital for some sight-seeing, eating, shopping and general wandering. Rome is close enough to make for a fun little day excursion. There are also a number of nearby towns situated on the top of hills in the vicinity to explore with great restaurants, cafes and old city centers. However, with a one year old we spent most of the time at the house and enjoyed our evenings outside in the stillness of the olive grove.

Only downside was the unbelievable heat during the month we were there - it was obscenely hot and there was no real escape from the heat (no AC in the house so we bought our own fans). We wished we were closer to the beach or a lake or something where we could refresh ourselves and cool off. However, heat like that is an anomaly in Italy (we were told) and at any other time of the year I think the location would be just about perfect.

Overall, this was a wonderful way to experience rural Italy. The property owners are gracious, knowledgeable, helpful and unbelievably kind and responsive. We couldn't have asked for more.

Owner's Response: I was very happy to host Kari and her family this summer. What I like to see in my hosts is them feeling at home and living the house as if it were there's and that is the feeling I got from their stay. I have to thank Kari for watering the plants on the terrace because, in what was the hottest summer in more than a hundred years in Italy, she was able to keep the plants alive! Thank you! They are a great family, friendly, easy to communicate with both face to face and by email and it was a pleasure to have them as guests.
