About the property

SLEEPS 19! 5 Bedrooms, Theater area, Large Bonus Room, 3 1/2 Bathrooms.

Built in 2008, this beautiful nearly 5000 sq ft home sits on 10 acres and boasts a panoramic view of the valley, the Lava Golf Course, and surrounding mountains. This property is located just 1.8 miles from the town of Lava Hot Springs and backs to BLM as well, so an ATV ride into town for groceries OR access to hundreds miles of back country trails can happen at a moments notice. Home includes: 5 bedrooms & large bonus room (Sleeps 20) 120" Projection Theater System, Granite countertops, 2 jetted tubs and a walk-in steam shower, WIFI, wood flooring, on-demand hot water system and soft water, front loading washer/drier, beautiful deck & walk-out basement with gas grill, outdoor and indoor speakers, this house has it all!

A 4WD vehicle may be needed to access house in the winter months, (though we DO have someone lined up to plow when it snows). The house is located on the side of a mountain so there are many variables involved there but parking below and walking the 40 yards or so up to the house may also be an option for you.

About Lorie and Richard Cannon

Richard grew up in Shelley, Idaho (home of the Shelley Russets!). Lorie grew up on a cattle ranch near Rifle, Colorado. They met on a blind date at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho in 1994 and moved all around the country getting educated. We have 4 children.

Lorie and Richard Cannon purchased this house in 2013

Why Lorie and Richard Cannon chose Lava Hot Springs

We have always dreamed of owning a place in Lava Hot Springs and when this property became available, we fell in love with it right away. Our family has visited the Lava Hot Springs area nearly every year. We enjoy the swimming pools the most! Next we enjoy the beautiful mountain setting, exciting swimming/tubing activities for kids, and the quaintness of this small town.

Making improvements and painting all of the once-pink walls, have been a labor of love that our whole family has been a part of. A highlight in our week is to get to stay at "Lava View Lodge" on our free weekends but having 4 busy teenagers, it is hard to find the time to get away. As a result, we rent it out to considerate guests on most weekends of the year and find it getting busier and busier.

What makes this house unique

This home is in complete isolation! The view of the mountains and golf course from the dining room windows sold us on the property. It is a special 'haven' away from everyday chaos. We see deer and jack rabbits nearly every morning. If you consider renting in winter months, make sure you bring 4WD.

BEFORE RENTING in the winter, YOU NEED 4WD to get all the way up to the house. Do not park on neighboring property or you will be towed. Driveway is plowed but is on the side of a mountain and becomes extremely icy. Cellular phone service works great on the property. WIFI/Netflix/Local Channels available.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in a few dozen VRBO properties over the years and this is the cream of the crop. The house is amazingly beautiful! The view of the peaceful valley is spectacular. I couldn't stay off the deck just looking at the beauty. We turned off the lights and stayed up late and looked at the trillions of starts at night. We saw deer, rabbits, and birds right on the property. It was always a struggle to decide whether to enjoy the beautiful surrounding outside or the beautiful surroundings inside. We always try and take very good care of the properties we stay in, and as a contractor, I have often fixed a few things in the houses during our stay as a thank you. This house needs nothing. It was as perfect a rental as you will see. We are a very active family and are always trying to see as much as we can and only come home at night to sleep. This place drew us all in and we changed plans just to hang out there. Thank you!

Gorgeous Home in Beautiful Area of Idaho

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful. Spacious. Clean. Comfortable. Well-maintained. We went in the winter, but luckily didn't encounter a lot of snow. It may have been challenging to get to the driveway if there was more snow. We have 4-Wheel Drive but didn't use it. Loved breakfast at the kitchen table surrounded by windows looking out at the snowy mountains! Perfect for a large family gathering. We had plenty of room and seating to play games for a group of 10. We could have used more instructions on how to use the media/entertainment system downstairs. We eventually figured out how to play a DVD. Netflix and Roku appeared to be available and set up, but we were unable to get them to work.

A perfect place for our family Thanksgiving get together!

  • 5 of 5

This home had lots of space and rooms for our large family.

The cousins loved the bunk room and their own get away space.

The views from the large bright windows and deck were wonderful.

We loved the large yard and private surroundings.

Everyone kept saying, "Great find Mom"!

I said it all in my title. We stayed at Lava View Lodge for a 3-day meeting. We filled every bed and met all day in the large open spaces. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted to use it as we did or to simply relax and enjoy.

The golf course/mountain view from the property is second to none! ATV trails abound right from the property. The house is close to town (just over a mile) for the swimming, tubing, shopping, parks, square ice cream cones, grocery stores, museums, restaurants, parks, etc..but also has a rural feel since it sits back up on a hillside with nothing but nature (deer and jack-rabbits included) surrounding you. Tubing the 'Portneuf River' through town will rival ANY theme park ride! (Warning: You WILL get wet!) Golf is moments away. The ladies will likely be able to watch the men golf a round while eating breakfast from the dining room table or out on the beautiful red-wood deck. After golf, take the 23 mile drive east to Soda Springs, ID; (home of the worlds only CAPTIVE GEYSER) which reaches heights of 100 ft and erupts every hour on the hour year-round. Kids can even play in the warm geyser water! It is lots of fun. Find the fresh carbonated springs bubbling up from the ground north of town and don't forget the root beer or cola extract (and sugar) to make a flavorful soda drink!

If Ghost Towns are your thing, take the beautiful 23 mile drive north of Lava to CHESTERFIELD. It 5,446 ft in elevation and was located along the Oregon trail, founded by Mormon settlers in 1881. The community includes a cemetery and former buildings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints such as a former meeting house, amusement hall and tithing house. After a railroad line was built through Bancroft to the south, the community lost some of its momentum, and agricultural difficulties led to its desertion by the end of the 1930s. Today, the community is operated as a tourist attraction, with guided tours and a museum.

As you can see, there are endless things to see and do in the Lava Hot Springs area.
