About the Property
Pet Friendly 3 Bedroom/2 Bath Cottage On A Quiet Road.l
Although the house looks small, it has a large dining room, large kitchen and two larger bedrooms. The third bedroom was a converted porch, so it's smaller. Two new bathrooms as well as upgraded washer and dryer modernized the home too. During the winter months guests will enjoy the wood-burning stove. Wood is provided too. Relax on a comfortable leather sofa and recliner in the living room. Plenty of extra quilts for winter weather too. Enjoy dinner in a large more formal dining room or eat in the cozy kitchen. Summer you'll like dining on the little front porch or drinking coffee in the mornings while you watch deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, even an occasional moose. It's a very quiet, laid-back setting to enjoy the country and surrounding mountains. Our county road is very close so it always gets attention by the snow plows in winter. Close to several smaller towns like Buffalo and Story as well as an easy trip into Sheridan for necessities (we do have a WalMart as well as several grocery stores). Hiking is just a step outside too. Red Grade road provides a way up the mountain where you'll find wonderful views, hiking trails, wildflowers, creeks and winter recreation. Several lodges on top of the mountain for lunch or dinner. This little cottage sits close to Little Goose Creek and has plenty of large cottonwood and willow trees surrounding the property. Nice views of the mountains too.

Just up the road from the Brinton Museum, right at the base of Big Horn Mountains and National Forest. Up on the mountain are lodges and restaurants for day trips. Plenty of room for hiking, biking, walkihg, snowmobiling in winter. Small towns of Buffalo (where Walt Longmire takes place) or Story up in the mountains, not far from Hardin and Little Big Horn Battlefield. Bozeman Trail also in Story. Historic Sheridan Inn once owned by Buffalo Bill Cody is also in Sheridan. The town of Sheridan is only 10 miles away and has an historic downtown mainstreet, many western activities abound. Good restaurants, nice library, older homes, lots of tree-lined streets. Kendrick Mansion where a catle-baron once lived. Kendrick Park and the elk pasture. Take a day trip to Custer Battleground in Montana or visit the Cody Museum across the mountain in historic Cody, Wyoming. Tour one of the many open pit coal mines around our area. We are known as the energy capital of the USA with coal-bed methane, oil, gas, and coal all around this area. Spend the night at one of the lodges on the mountain and go snowmobiling or cross-country skiing. Get a fishing license and fish the area lakes and streams. Boating is a good summertime activity on nearby Lake DeSmet.
Year Purchased: 1980
About the owner: My husband and I have lived on the adjacent property for 30 years. We purchased this little 130 year cottage from our neighbors when they moved. We upgraded it over the years and rented it out. We are so fortunate to have grown up in this area so we are familiar with all the things there are to do. Being in business too has helped us keep in touch with the community. Now that we're retired, we enjoy traveling, having a couple antique shows at the barn next door, and just relaxing after years of running fast food restaurants.
Why the Owner Chose Big Horn, WY, USA:
When we purchased our home this little cottage was occupied and they also owned a couple acres with it. Since it is in close proximity to our home, when the neighbors decided to move, we purchased it. Since then, we have rented it out. Our guests enjoy hiking down the road or visiting the new $21 million Brinton Museum about a mile away, or taking a drive up Red Grade road to see the wildflowers in summer or to ride snowmobiles in winter. Mountain biking is popular here too, and not at all crowded. On the Dayton-Kane side of our area, hang-gliding is a big tourist draw. Small towns are always fun to explore for short day trips too.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
It's a great home-base for lots of shorter day trips to Cody, Buffalo, Gillette, Dayton, Sheridan, Story. The whole area has a lot to offer. Nearby Sheridan has several museums...Kings Saddlery, Kendrick Mansion, Sheridan County Museum. Summertime it's always fun to head down to the local Farmer's Market or swim a the local pool. The historic Sheridan Inn (once owned by Buffalo Bill Cody) is a good stopping off point. Local restaurants and bars make it nice if you don't feel like cooking. A recent summertime favorite in the entire area is Longmire Days. Cast and local writer, Craig Johnson, come for a week and mingle with the locals and stay at the HFBar dude ranch. Buffalo, Dayton and Story are quaint little western towns with cute shops and fun restaurants. Snowmobiling is our area's best-kept secret. Mountain lodges atop the mountain are good stopping points after a long day on the trails. It's possible to ride your sled right out the driveway and up Red Grade...your own private winter playground.
