About Sandy Handrich

We make our home on the 60 acres the lodge is located on and have both spent the majority of our lives in this area. God has blessed us with 3 lovely daughters, 1 is married and gave us our 1st grandchild in Oct. 2014!! Two of our daughters live here in Mio and our oldest lives in California. We have 2 spoiled chocolate labs, Jugg and Hunter who we adore. Dale and I enjoy traveling, camping, golf and fishing. We own Handrich trucking, a family business started by Dale's father in 1976. That takes up most of Dale's time, while I (Sandy) run the lodge, and also work at Mio Baptist Church 1 day a week. We are all very involved in our church, and are very thankful for God's many blessings in our lives.

Sandy Handrich purchased this lodge in 2010

Why Sandy Handrich chose Northeast

This lodge is a dream come true for us. We live on the hill right next to the lodge in a beautiful log home where we raised our family. We have a beautiful view 365 days a year and wanted a way to share it with others and provide quality lodging for large families and groups. We purchased the 60 acres 16 years ago and built our dream home. Dale started clearing the lodge property in 2009, and construction on the lodge began and was completed in 2010.

What makes this lodge unique

We thoroughly enjoyed the process of designing and decorating the lodge. Every area of the lodge was designed with our guests in mind. We wanted to offer something that would be unique yet warm and inviting. We tried to create a place that would be large enough for families to all stay together yet cozy enough for you to be able to relax and feel at home away from home. Some of our favorite features in the lodge would be the large dining room table that seats about 14, it was crafted by local Amish. The fire pit area is a great gathering place and my personal favorite is the beautiful sun room area. Please come and be our guests and experience the true relaxation of the Ausable View Lodge and Northern Michigan.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This lodge was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The lodge is decorated beautifully and the sunsets were fabulous. The fire pit area was a blast. We hung outside a couple of nights. You will not be disappointed if you rent this place.

Just got back from our third year of visiting the Ausable View Lodge. A great time was had by all. The Lodge is a super place. Everything you'd want or even expect to have for a weekend retreat. Cant wait until next year.

Beat Our Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a cousin family tubing trip! Everyone of my guests were amazed at how beautiful this cabin was and how each and every room had such special detail! Words truly cannot describe how amazing this place is. And the pictures do not compare to the true beauty.

A little piece of Paradise.

  • 5 of 5

There was one thing wrong with our stay at this lodge...we didn't stay long enough. I don't think anyone could possibly be disappointed by their stay at the lodge. It is beautiful inside and out. The view is exquisite. The decor is outstanding. The owners are very nice, and their property manager was over in a flash to help us figure out the TV, and she, as well, was extremely nice. It is everything claimed to be, but so much more.

Honestly the best, most perfect, beautiful weekend we could ask for.

  • 5 of 5

We had 20 guys gather for a guys weekend at the golf course. This lodge is immaculate, it's fantastic, it's beautiful, and it's perfect for a long weekend. We spent our first night watching hockey and playing cards and the HUGE dining room table, sat 15 men comfortably. The second day we hit the sticks and golfed all day and had the opportunity to grill some hotdogs and burgers on the master grill and again play cards all night and access the upstairs entertainment area. This place was wayyy out of our league, but we were all very happy with the professionalism and attentive responses of questions from the owners and property manager. This place is an A++. And accommodated 20 guys for a weekend of golf, hockey, and cards. We will ABSOLUTELY seek this property again. 110% A++ couldn't be more thankful for Sandy and the crew. This place is incredible.

We are located on the south end of the quaint little town of mio, michigan! Approx. 35 miles north of i 75, 180 miles north of detroit and 100 miles south of the mackinaw bridge. Our unique location gives us the best of both worlds, perched high on a hill overlooking the ausable river valley, yet close enough to walk to town! The lodge is secluded and surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Our area is most widely known for the ausable river, well known for fishing and canoeing. We are only about 5 min. From the river and provide information on local canoe liveries. Mio is also known for the amish community with its many stores and bakeries. Hundreds of miles of atv trails, thousands of acres of national forest, and many lakes make our community a sportsman's paradise. Mio is also surrounded by some of the top rated golf courses in the country.
