About Sandy Handrich

We make our home on the 60 acres the lodge is located on and have both spent the majority of our lives in this area. God has blessed us with 3 lovely daughters, 1 is married and gave us our 1st grandchild in Oct. 2014!! Two of our daughters live here in Mio and our oldest lives in California. We have 2 spoiled chocolate labs, Jugg and Hunter who we adore. Dale and I enjoy traveling, camping, golf and fishing. We own Handrich trucking, a family business started by Dale's father in 1976. That takes up most of Dale's time, while I (Sandy) run the lodge, and also work at Mio Baptist Church 1 day a week. We are all very involved in our church, and are very thankful for God's many blessings in our lives.

Sandy Handrich purchased this lodge in 2010

Why Sandy Handrich chose Mio

This lodge is a dream come true for us. We live on the hill right next to the lodge in a beautiful log home where we raised our family. We have a beautiful view 365 days a year and wanted a way to share it with others and provide quality lodging for large families and groups. We purchased the 60 acres 16 years ago and built our dream home. Dale started clearing the lodge property in 2009, and construction on the lodge began and was completed in 2010.

What makes this lodge unique

We thoroughly enjoyed the process of designing and decorating the lodge. Every area of the lodge was designed with our guests in mind. We wanted to offer something that would be unique yet warm and inviting. We tried to create a place that would be large enough for families to all stay together yet cozy enough for you to be able to relax and feel at home away from home. Some of our favorite features in the lodge would be the large dining room table that seats about 14, it was crafted by local Amish. The fire pit area is a great gathering place and my personal favorite is the beautiful sun room area. Please come and be our guests and experience the true relaxation of the Ausable View Lodge and Northern Michigan.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This lodge was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The lodge is decorated beautifully and the sunsets were fabulous. The fire pit area was a blast. We hung outside a couple of nights. You will not be disappointed if you rent this place.

2nd. stay just as good as the first!!

  • 5 of 5

Well, this was our second stay at the Lodge for our 48th. annual family "hunting weekend" and we were just as pleased with our experience as we were last year! The Handrichs are outstanding hosts and my brothers and I had the pleasure of meeting Dale for the first time; a super- friendly and genuine man!! (Thanks Dale for the fire wood, but unfortunately, as you know, it rained the rest of the day/evening and we couldn't enjoy a fire outdoors - but did indoors instead!). Altogether, we are perfectly content on making this our destination of choice for our very treasured family tradition and I will be booking the same for 2018.

God Bless you all!!

Jack LeBlanc

p.s., only one minor request: a LARGE non-stick frying pan or two would be great! (maybe there was one somewhere in the cabinets, but I did not find it??)

p.s.s., part of our "wish list" (this may be pushing it)...but a fold-away ping-pong table would fit nicely in the open tile space downstairs and when not in use, could easily be rolled into the basement and in summer months could be brought out onto the cement patio near the grill. We did appreciate the addition of the Foosball Table up in the loft for sure!!

Beautiful Lodge and Terrific Views

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends had a very relaxing weekend. The lodge had EVERYTHING you would want in a kitchen. I brought cooking/serving dishes just in case but didn't end up needing to use them. We loved the large table that was perfect for our group of 14 to all sit at comfortably. The large wrap around deck was amazing as well as the large fire area outside. The kitchen island was great for setting up all of the food/drinks. I would definitely recommend visiting.

We are located on the south end of the quaint little town of mio, michigan! Approx. 35 miles north of i 75, 180 miles north of detroit and 100 miles south of the mackinaw bridge. Our unique location gives us the best of both worlds, perched high on a hill overlooking the ausable river valley, yet close enough to walk to town! The lodge is secluded and surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Our area is most widely known for the ausable river, well known for fishing and canoeing. We are only about 5 min. From the river and provide information on local canoe liveries. Mio is also known for the amish community with its many stores and bakeries. Hundreds of miles of atv trails, thousands of acres of national forest, and many lakes make our community a sportsman's paradise. Mio is also surrounded by some of the top rated golf courses in the country.
