We make our home on the 60 acres the lodge is located on and have both spent the majority of our lives in this area. God has blessed us with 3 lovely daughters, 1 is married and gave us our 1st grandchild in Oct. 2014!! Two of our daughters live here in Mio and our oldest lives in California. We have 2 spoiled chocolate labs, Jugg and Hunter who we adore. Dale and I enjoy traveling, camping, golf and fishing. We own Handrich trucking, a family business started by Dale's father in 1976. That takes up most of Dale's time, while I (Sandy) run the lodge, and also work at Mio Baptist Church 1 day a week. We are all very involved in our church, and are very thankful for God's many blessings in our lives.
Sandy Handrich purchased this lodge in 2010
This lodge is a dream come true for us. We live on the hill right next to the lodge in a beautiful log home where we raised our family. We have a beautiful view 365 days a year and wanted a way to share it with others and provide quality lodging for large families and groups. We purchased the 60 acres 16 years ago and built our dream home. Dale started clearing the lodge property in 2009, and construction on the lodge began and was completed in 2010.
We thoroughly enjoyed the process of designing and decorating the lodge. Every area of the lodge was designed with our guests in mind. We wanted to offer something that would be unique yet warm and inviting. We tried to create a place that would be large enough for families to all stay together yet cozy enough for you to be able to relax and feel at home away from home. Some of our favorite features in the lodge would be the large dining room table that seats about 14, it was crafted by local Amish. The fire pit area is a great gathering place and my personal favorite is the beautiful sun room area. Please come and be our guests and experience the true relaxation of the Ausable View Lodge and Northern Michigan.
This lodge was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The lodge is decorated beautifully and the sunsets were fabulous. The fire pit area was a blast. We hung outside a couple of nights. You will not be disappointed if you rent this place.
My family had a great time here. The setting is extraordinary and you can spend hours appreciating the craftsmanship of the lodge.
Very well kept property. Great views and quiet area.
Our annual guys get-away weekend (46 years in a row and counting!!) was more than well-served by our first time stay at Ausable View Lodge. As our family has grown over the years, so has our need for larger accommodations: this Lodge more than fulfilled the need in a 5 Star-plus manner in every respect. Seriously...the guys literally applauded me for finding this Lodge - they were blown-away! The vote was unanimous to make this our new "home" for our yearly event and I have already booked for 2017 as a result. Thanks to Sandy and Dale for providing such a fantastic place to stay, and also to Jaleesa for her warm and friendly orientation on our day of arrival. The only comment from the guys: "Whoa, wouldn't it be awesome if they could find a place for a pool table in here?!!". God Bless the Handrich family, and we'll see you next year!
Regards, Jack/Commerce Township/Mich.
Been coming for years and will keep on coming...
Dale and Sandy have one beautiful lodge. Our group of ORV riders have made 5 trips to the lodge in 2 years. They have always welcomed us back year after year. This is an awesome spot to stay because you can ride from the lodge to the trails without trailering. Thanks Dale and Sandy, see you on the spring!!!
This has been our third year of enjoying this resort! Great weather, friends and a beautiful place to stay with comfort for everyone. Would recommend this place and we will be back next year!!
We are located on the south end of the quaint little town of mio, michigan! Approx. 35 miles north of i 75, 180 miles north of detroit and 100 miles south of the mackinaw bridge. Our unique location gives us the best of both worlds, perched high on a hill overlooking the ausable river valley, yet close enough to walk to town! The lodge is secluded and surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Our area is most widely known for the ausable river, well known for fishing and canoeing. We are only about 5 min. From the river and provide information on local canoe liveries. Mio is also known for the amish community with its many stores and bakeries. Hundreds of miles of atv trails, thousands of acres of national forest, and many lakes make our community a sportsman's paradise. Mio is also surrounded by some of the top rated golf courses in the country.
