We stopped here at the end of July for a few days on a trip west from the Baltimore/DC area, wanting to show our kids a nighttime sky full of stars. The first night was clear and did not disappoint - it was absolutely beautiful! The property was quiet, both day and night, it was so peaceful. For late July, it was low to mid 70's in the day, and mid 50's at night.
It IS a 20 minute drive over the ridge into the next valley to get groceries, so you need to plan ahead, but that's part of the beauty and quiet. If you don't hunt or fish, you have to go a ways to find something to do, but you should know that from looking at the area.
The house is great - clean, well decorated, and comfortable. We cook all our meals at home, and the kitchen was well equipped enough to do the same here when we didn't eat out. Bring bug spray; it can get a little annoying when you hang out in the yard, but didn't keep us from roasting marshmallows to make s'mores over the fire pit. I've been to Switzerland, and it's no wonder Highland County is known as little Switzerland - just beautiful everywhere you look, from one valley into the next.
