A delightful home!
My wife’s immediate comment was “I feel like this is a place I could actually live in!” High praise - we have stayed in many villas in France and Italy, and this was up there with the best. As well as the fabulous views, the house itself is delightful, including really good artwork to enjoy; never seen that in a villa before. Highly recommended.
A great holiday spent in a superb, well equipped villa in a fabulous setting
We have just returned from our brilliant holiday in the South of France.
Les Hispes, on the edge of the small town of Seillans, was amazing; furnished and equipped to a very high standard providing a luxurious base for our holiday.
We particularly loved that there was a bathroom for every bedroom, a great pool with a wonderful garden full of nooks and crannies, and, of course, the outdoor kitchen where we enjoyed our breakfast every morning. Just a 10/12 minute walk, down the hill, is the lovely little town of Seillans where there were fab restaurants (Chez Hugo, Le Gloire de Mon Pere and Deux Rocs...these were the ones we walked to for dinner and they were all superb), galleries and shops. The 8 a huit supermarket was great too for breakfast goods and all sorts of provisions...we used it every day
Within easy driving distance, we visited vineyards (wine tasting), lakes (great water sports), the lovely Cote d'Azur and beautiful little towns offering markets, shops, museums and great views.
Our party consisted of myself, my husband, our son, and our daughter and her fiancé - the villa and the area did not disappoint... we all thoroughly enjoyed our Southern France experience.. not least this beautiful villa. A really memorable holiday.
Beautiful Property in a Stunning Spot
A really lovely house which is extremely well laid out, equipped with very high quality fixtures and fittings, and that has beautiful views.
The outdoor space is excellent - a beautiful pool area, and several outdoor eating spaces, the pick of which is the huge stone dining table on the terrace , supported by its own fully equipped outdoor kitchen complete with BBQ, fridge, and dishwasher.
Lars the owner was really helpful throughout the booking process, as was Karen the local property manager who helped me to hire a road bike for the week ( great cycling if you are a rider - but start earliy as there are some serious climbs to be undertaken and it gets hot!)
A great week and I am sure we will stay again at some point in the future.
We are two couples in our 50s, and we stayed here for two glorious weeks at the end of May and beginning of June, 2017. We agree with the other reviewers: this is a wonderful place. Here are a few more details:
There are two floors, the ground floor not at all subterranean, but rather opening onto the patio. Two bedrooms, a second living room, and two full baths are located here.
The main floor has one bedroom and a gorgeous bathroom with a tub to die for and a large separate shower.
The beds are extremely good. All the bedrooms have screens.
The open concept of the kitchen, living room, and dining room makes for a very convivial time. During the day it is light-filled, with french doors opening on to the balcony.
There's a laundry room with a washing machine and washtub, (drying outside on clothes lines) an extra refrigerator (all in all there are 3 refrigerators on the property), ironing board, and cupboards filled with extra kitchen supplies and gadgets. I defy anyone to name an appliance that isn't here. (Except a microwave.)
The amazing outdoor kitchen is right next to the dining area on the patio (BBQ, refrigerator, sink, dishwasher, hot plates, fully equipped).
The pool is a few stone steps down from the patio,.
Everywhere on the property there are charming secret gardens with benches or chairs or even a hammock, and stunning views. (In case you're wondering, this is not a suburban development - I don't think there are any around.)
The village is a 10 minute walk down a steepish road. Seillans is sleepy, with few shops. There are, however a surprising number of artists' galleries. There are a few restaurants and a Huit a Huit convenience store with a good butcher, a bread depot, and most essentials. For big shopping you will want to drive into Fayence, about a 10 minute drive. There are several wineries in the area. Just beyond our favorite, Val D'Iris, is a great boulangerie (a little hard to find among a tiny collection of buildings).
Karen, the property manager, is the most responsive and helpful manager we've run into in our years of renting VRBOs and Airbnbs. (Does she ever sleep?)
In short, we agree with the other reviewers: this villa is heaven!
We have rented many properties in France over the years and this is one of the very best.
The house is comfortable, stylish and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and high-spec and, for a family of 4, it was indulgently spacious. Wifi worked well throughout the house and grounds.
We generally enjoyed breakfast on the balcony and lunches in the dining area adjacent to the outdoor kitchen. We also had a couple of bbqs here.
The garden is extensive and, whilst the property is not isolated, it is not overlooked at all. The pool area is really lovely. It is lined with lavender bushes and has olive trees at one end for shade. The views towards the hilltop village of Seillans are stunning.
The communication with the owner was good and we received a warm welcome from Karen.
If you choose to stay here, you won't be disappointed!
Our property is situated in the Var department, in close proximity to the medieval city of Seillans, which has been voted one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval cities in France. The house is a 10-minute walk from the village with its local bakeries, cafes, and three Michelin-recommended restaurants. Additionally, there are several galleries, a Max Ernst museum, and tourist information in the village. A supermarket, providing all daily necessities, is located halfway between the house and the village. It includes a pharmacy, as well. A larger supermarket (Super U) can be found in the nearby town Fayance (5 km). There is a medical centre with Scandinavian doctors and staff in Tourettes (8-9 km away). Le Pays de Fayence consists of eight villages: Callian, Fayence, Mons, Montauroux, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, Seillans, Bargemon, and Tourettes. All of these villages set on the holts are situated halfway between the coastline and the Préalpes, the mountain ranges on the verge of the Alps. It is an area of great diversity, which provides you with a peaceful environment, authentic Provençal charm, and various idyllic hiking routes.
