About the property

9 Bed, 3.5 Bath, Great Room With Fireplace And Bar On Beautiful Nicaboyne Lake

WALKER'S LODGE is booking SUMMER 2019 one year from the end date of inquiry, in order to allow our returning guests the opportunity to keep their standing date from year to year. If they do not, we will open the week up to another guest. We book Friday - Friday in the summer months. Thank you for your understanding and for your interest in our lodge!

Formerly a resort lodge built in 1958, Walker's Lodge has been updated and remodeled and is the ideal year-round vacation home for families and groups to make memories. And we've recently been the location in the making of a film (but we're not allowed to release details yet)!

The air-conditioned lodge sits on 290 acre Nicaboyne Lake, which is a fun, fully recreational lake between 10am-5pm. The area feels more peaceful than some of the other lakes in the area as the east side of the lake is undeveloped. When you look out to the lake from the lodge and beach it somewhat resembles the boundary waters. The lodge is set back from neighboring cabins, which were originally part of the resort, and is nestled in the woods, offering privacy. Its expansive front lawn is perfect for yard games like softball, kickball, tug of war, etc. The yard also has a shuffleboard and a horseshoe pit. Kids love the large play set, too!

The great room of the lodge has a lovely stone fireplace, large bar (which was originally the check-in desk), and a piano. The dining room offers seating for 30 and is full of large windows and light. As the resort was a fully functional restaurant at one point, it also has a commercial kitchen perfect for making meals together. Right off of the kitchen is the former lodge owner’s private quarters, which has an additional living room, full bathroom, and two bedrooms. It also has a separate entrance with an amazing screened-in porch, paver patio, Weber grill, and fire pit.

Right off of the great room and facing the woods is a second screened-in porch, where many love to read and relax during rain showers. The porch has a daybed with trundle for those who want to sleep closer to nature.

Up the stairs from the great room are 5 lake-facing bedrooms, 4 with queen beds and 1 with a full-sized bed. On the other side of the hall, facing the woods are two bunk rooms (full over full bunks - can sleep 4 children each very comfortably - or 2 adults each). There are also 2 full baths on this side of the hall, marked as ladies and gentlemen. :) The total square footage of the property is close to 5000.

Rentals include the use of a canoe, paddleboat, and Weeres pontoon.

About Jennifer Peterson

Greetings from The Walker/ Peterson Family! Growing up on Lake Erie, the water and all the activities it offers have been an important staple in our lives. When we moved to the Twin Cities, we knew that a cabin would be in our future. After purchasing Peterson's Playground with Mike's brother, (on Des Moines Lake), we have simply fallen in love with this area and are thrilled to share our dream with you!

Jennifer Peterson purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Jennifer Peterson chose Danbury

From the moment we walked into the lodge for the first time, we felt at home. Its rustic charm and large living areas drew us in, and we could just envision having our friends and family here. It's been fun discovering bits of lodge history (formerly known as Sugg's Resort) as we talk with neighbors and we would love to go back in time to enjoy it in its prime!

Fantastic property; definitely a re-rent!

  • 5 of 5

Walker's Lodge was far more than we anticipated, having done several other WI lake rentals. The owners are really responsive and helpful (thanks, Jen!) which is incredibly important. The lake access is sandy, great dock, good fishing, and we enjoyed the quiet hours that allowed us to swim to and from the island multiple times (out and back is half a mile). Bin by the water is stocked with kid sand toys for the little ones. The neighbors are very lovely, especially since we were all clearly adhering to the hours of parents with small children. The inclusion in the rental of the pontoon, stand-up paddle boards, canoe and paddle boat make this property a fantastic deal. This place is fully stocked - beach and bath towels, hand soap, dishwasher soap - all the little things that are hard to bring are already here so cross them off your list. We loved the kitchen - it's well stocked with equipment/storage to feed both very large and small groups (if you can't find it, look under the island - it will appear). The griddle was amazing fun and we made cakes from scratch in the oven so the temp is accurate. We had a mix of big and little kids and there was something for everyone. Behind the bar is a big pile of toys to explore - not advertised but we really appreciated it. Bedrooms are plentiful and the cleaning crew is super nice. For the Type A renters: Don't stress out about the specific instructions on relocating the bedding/throws to the right rooms - that's for the cleaning crew. Get a couple loads of towels/sheets done, remove your garbage and other stuff and you're going to be fine. We'll definitely be back! Thanks so much to the Peterson family!

Another great company getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd year that our company has had the "yearly getaway" at the lodge. We had a major snowfall the evening prior and our last evening at the lodge. Even with the power going out for over an hour in the evening, everyone had the best time sitting around the wood fireplace and playing games! The lodge is roomy for large groups and yet very cozy just like home. We will definitely recommend this rental to anyone and would be happy to stay again!

Big enough for a family of 17, and then some!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late on Friday for a late Christmas weekend with my Mom and Dad and 2 brothers. There were a total of 17 of us. The lodge is expansive, and there are enough bedrooms to sleep us all, with extra bunks for kids. We were there in January 2018, and the first night it was -28 degrees. The furnace's all ran, all night, but they kept us warm. The kitchen and dining area is ginormous and we were all able to eat together. It's a winner! -Dan

Christmas At The Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year at The Lodge and once again it was fabulous ! The guys were thrilled catching 15 in crappies ! We had wonderful time enjoying every part of the lodge. We love that 7 bedrooms are all upstairs and very comfortable. Love the big restaurant oven & grill, was great for fixing meals for 20 people. Lots of space for lounging, enjoying the fireplace, & so much room for the little ones to run around. Jennifer is so wonderful to deal with and making sure our stay was perfect ! I think we've found our yearly spot :)

Thanks so much !
