**** PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING FIRST ***

YOU MUST TENT A 4x4 VEHICLE TO GET UP THE MOUNTAIN TO OUR HOUSE. You do NOT have to rent a Jeep or even a large SUV. Costa Rica 4x4's come in all sizes.

Due to the height of the house and decks sitting 2 and 3 stories above the jungle floor, we DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN to stay in this home. We define 'children' as anyone under 18 years old. You are escorted up to the house upon arrival in Uvita. If there are children in your party, our manager will have to refuse access. We only have this rule for the safety of people who would be vulnerable to accidents. Thanks so much for understanding.

First of all, if you have never been to Costa Rica, please read this paragraph. Costa Rica is one of the most gorgeous places in the Western Hemisphere. However, it is NOT the U.S. or Canada. Things don't happen fast in C.R. Your priorities will not be shared by the local people. They live very simply and very happily. There are no fast food restaurants or 1 hr. service for anything in Uvita. The service is good, but not fast. The country and it's people are not driven by technology or electronics. They do not depend upon their wireless devices as we do. They are still considered a third world country. If you can understand all that, you will have the time of your life. But you must remember that you are not in your own country and you need to trade some conveniences and rapid service for awe. Don't try to put your Gringo expectations on the Ticos. It will only stress you out.

You MUST rent a 4x4 vehicle with a low gear in order to maneuver the road up the mountain. There is no getting around it. There are many, many sizes and types of 4x4's to rent in Costa Rica....most you have never even heard of before. MAKE SURE the car rental staff shows you how to operate in the lower gears...and how to put the vehicle in and out of the lower gears.

House description:

Cool, breezy, charming two bedroom/two bath home built three stories above the jungle floor. Can sleep 5 very comfortably by utilizing the inflatable bed.

Wrap around deck, walk in pool with waterfall, huge rancho, wildlife galore, gorgeous garden with papaya, mango and citrus trees. The most relaxed and interesting place you will ever stay in Costa Rica. Amenities include cable TV, Internet, a/c in the lower bedroom (if needed), complete kitchen with all appliances, dishes and cooking utensils, linens and towels, indoor shower, two outdoor showers. I have many photos to send and detailed information about the house and all the activities offered in our little town of Uvita, which is a beautiful 3.5 hr. drive from San Jose, down the Pacific coastline. The house is 1300 feet above sea level, overlooking the ocean and set in the rain forest. Two species of monkeys, incredible birds (including toucans and macaws), Coati mundi, kinkajous, jaguarundis and sloths are just a few of the animals that have been observed on the property. The deck provides a 300 degree view of the jungle and the Pacific ocean, and you will probably want to spend most of your time there, perched 3 stories above the rain forest floor.

Tours in the area include an amazing ATV company that takes you on a 25 mile ride high in the mountains (over 3000 ft.) and a visit to a 300 ft. waterfall...one of the top two best zip lines in the country that also offers a Tarzan swing and a Superman swing, both amazing...snorkel and whale watching tours out to Cano Island, which you can see from our house...bicycle tours....deep sea fishing...surf lessons....hiking...repelling....kayak tours and so many more activities. You are just two miles from the famous Bahia Ballena beach, also known as the Whales Tail...look it up on Google images. There are many, many beaches to access in the area. The town of Dominical, known as one of the best surfing beaches in Costa Rica is just 15 miles from our house.

After reading our entire listing and viewing the photos, please email me and I will send a wealth of information and lots more photos about the house and all the features of this part of Costa Rica. We will partner with you in finding all the tours, excursions and adventures that are tailored for your particular style. We will stay in touch with you from the time you book with us, all the way until you check out of the house, answering any questions you might have.

Looking forward to getting to know you and meeting your needs for the vacation of your dreams.

We can customize your payments for your convenience. In some cases, we can accept the 2nd payment (remaining balance) at the time of check in IF we have agreed upon this arrangement beforehand.

About Frannie and Gabe

We are from deep in the heart of Texas. We built our little jungle nest in 2008, thinking we were ready to retire here, but as you know, LIFE sometimes gets in the way of your plans. So now, until we can truly call this place home, we would love to share it with you! We didn't build a fancy house...we wanted a rustic, cabin, Tico feel to it. There are many prettier, more luxurious houses than ours to rent, but not many that are more fun! The house is 1300 feet above sea level, and only a little more than a mile from downtown Uvita. The road is rugged and goes straight up. But the drive up is well worth it. You definitely will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the mountain roads.

Why Frannie and Gabe chose Uvita

A private nature inspired getaway for ADULTS.

We think this is one of the best deals in the Uvita area.

What makes this house unique

Completely private 4 acre property overlooking the Pacific Ocean, including a view of Cano Island.

The house is a two story cabin with more windows than wood. If you are wanting spa type luxury, our house is probably not your best fit. But if you are into nature and breezes and total relaxation, you are home! You will have a private pool and Rancho (cabana) with the house. Also we are at the end of our neighborhood road, so you will have NO traffic at all.

A note about Internet service:

Internet in CR is not what we are used to in he U.S.. That is just fact. But we do have internet and you can get connected. It is not as fast, nor is it as constant as you are used to. Then, add to the fact that you are in a country where technology is years behind that of the U.S. or Canada. When you are at our house, you are in a much more remote location than down in the town of Uvita or if you were staying at an all inclusive type spa. You can easily get an international texting plan on your phone which is very reliable. Very few people have complained about our internet, but those are people that expect to be connected 24/7.

Similarly, the cable TV is a Company from Mexico and is not as stable as in the U.S. It may not work for hours at a time. There are Several English speaking channels and one of them is BBC. There are many DVD's to watch in the drawers below the TV.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We were so happy to accommodate a wonderful family such as yours. Nothing is as satisfying as knowing that guests enjoy our little getaway as much as we do. We sincerely hope you return to our jungle nest.

Beautiful house in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at the house. The jungle is on the deck side and there's a garden area on the pool side that backs up to the side of the mountain. There's a lovely covered deck area with chairs, table, and lounge overlooking the pool - photo 5 of 24 in the ad was obviously taken from there. The house had everything we needed and more. Didn't notice on the ad that the house has WiFi, but it does. Wife was also thrilled to learn there was a blender for morning smoothies and afternoon fruity cocktails. Plenty of wildlife around the house spotted. The usual toucans and monkeys and also lots of great raptors (you are at soaring level!), a pair of great curassow, a paca agouti eating my watermelon rind beneath the house, and much more. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Wouldn't change a thing about the house, just perfect. Yes, 4WD is a must. Our car's 4WD indicator came on when engaged before going up the mountain, but half way up I knew something wasn't right. We barely made it to the top in a frightening and probably a little reckless blaze of spinning tires that probably woke everyone in the hills up! Took the rental back the next day and indeed 4WD wasn't engaging. Got a replacement and easy after that. Thanks Frannie for sharing!

A delightful treehouse in the forest

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. It seems to "sail out" over the valley. Sitting on the deck, we were hypnotised by the feeling of total immersion in the forest. The cosy "pod-like" interior is charming, although we spent most of our time, armed with binoculars, on the huge wrap-around deck. The view from the upstairs bedroom, at almost 360 degrees, makes it rather difficult to leave the bed in the morning! The pool, with its Shangri-La waterfall is gorgeous and seemed quite large to us (not small as some other reviewers have stated).

The road up to the mountain is testing and obviously you need a 4WD. However, it didn't bother us much as we hardly left the house during our two-week stay, so comfortable were we.

Awesome place, right in the jungle!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying at Frannie and Gabe's place. We were there for four days and didn't want to leave. Uvita is a growing little town with all the amenities you need to stock up for your stay up the mountain, plus a few great restaurants close by. Every morning we awoke to the brilliant sounds of the jungle - especially the howlers and plethora of birds. We spent the earlier part of each day exploring the fabulous nearby beaches including Marino Ballena, Playa Venatas and Dominical and we enjoyed every afternoon in the beautiful pool overlooking the jungle and sea. Frannie is great to deal with - prompt and informative. The beds are comfortable and there was always lots of hot water. Everything exceeded our expectations. We would return and highly recommend staying here.

  • 5 of 5

Ever want to go to sleep to the sound of the jungle and wake up to a view of the ocean with monkeys, toucans, and all sorts of jungle wildlife just outside the window of your bedroom. This is the house for you. My wife and I had the time of our lives.

House of gorgeous VIEWS!

  • 5 of 5

Everywhere you turn, there's yet another gorgeous view from the unfiltered windows on this beautiful home! We partook in a host of Frannie and Gabe's enthusiastic recommendations in and around the Uvita area, yet hanging out at the home amongst the thick and plentiful foliage, and the plethora of animals was one of our favorite daytime and nighttime happenings! We look forward to returning again as soon as possible!

Awesome House, Town and Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We recently visited the House of Windows with our two adult children. It is a perfect house for a small group. The location was absolutely beautiful and if you are looking for a place that offers relaxation, fun and adventure this is the place to stay. Uvita is a wonderful town that is not overrun with tourist's. Its location is close to many beautiful beaches, canopy tours, snorkeling as well as a wonderful ATV tour up the mountains. Frannie is awesome and is willing to share an abundance of information about the area including car rental, tours, restaurants, etc. I would highly recommend staying at this house if you are looking for someplace to stay and truly enjoy the culture of Costa RIca.

The road up to the house is only 1.5 miles from town.

However a good portion of it is rough, un paved and you MUST have a 4x4 vehicle for the steep climb. It does not have to be a huge SUV, as there are many smaller models with 4x4 in Costa Rica.

You will be escorted to the house by Geiner, the property manager. If you can not get to Uvita before 9pm, you will have to spend the night In town at one of the cabinas.....or stop in Quepos/Manuel Antonio on your way from the airport, and travel the rest of the way (about and hour) the next morning. Manuel Antonio is one of the most gorgeous beaches in CR and there are many, many places to stay on the hill above the beach. Check it out on the Interent. I can not ask Geiner to meet people arriving late at night, since he goes to bed by 8pm when he can and gets up at daylight, like most Costa Ricans do.

Our house is as you see in the photos. It would be considered a rustic getaway, rather than a luxury estate.

It,is not fancy, but very functional and very fun if you are a nature lover.
