Halloween House

  • 2 of 5

This house fronted on Torrey Pines Blvd. which is a major traffic thoroughfare in La Jolla and super noisy. I take blame for that bothersome issue as I didn't look at map and didn't consider traffic as I should have.

House was very clean inside , towels and bedding great. Kitchen was small but had ample dishes, silver, pots, pans, etc. However exterior of windows were filthy and covered with spider webs and bird poop. Walls, doors and floors were scarred, marred and in need of repair and paint. Light bulbs were burned out in a couple of the aged light fixtures. Toaster oven didn't work, same with jacuzzi bathtub in master bath; tub drain in one of baths, wouldn't. Finally held it open with a spoon. No lights working on outside deck, including those on stairs leading down to the yard and additional sleeping area. Scary at night with a dog to be let out, children and a pregnant woman around. Tried unsuccessfully to have this resolved but neither the owner or the realtor came through - in fact neither never checked back with us after initial calls.

The exterior of the house was awful. There was dirt, plant detritus and spider webs everywhere. The shrubbery and trees laden with webs. The roof coping and exterior corners and crannies of house, same thing. I relocated several large spiders so that we could walk freely in the back and enter the front of the house without encountering big fat eight legged creatures hanging on their webs.

All in all not a good experience. This house needs maintenance and upkeep badly and is WAY overpriced for the condition of the property.

Pacific View - Fantastic house for family trip

  • 5 of 5

This house worked well for our group of 3 couples and 4 small children. The downstairs provided a nice space with peace and quiet. The upstairs living areas were nice and we spent most of our time visiting on the porch and the adjacent living room with views of the ocean. The house is in walking distance to the beach and restaurants (La Jolla Shores) and a quick drive to La Jolla Village. The binder of local restaurants and activities was helpful as were the were the instructions on what needed to be done upon leaving. We hope to return again!

Awesome views, needs some tweaking

  • 4 of 5

We chose Pacific View for its awesome views and we were not disappointed. The 270-degree deck was beautiful and we enjoyed it from sunrise to sunset! The porch was amazing-large with lounge chairs and table/chairs for four. A perfect place to relax without a doubt. We also loved the bar area in the off the deck. It included an undercounter two-drawer wine chiller and an undercounter two-drawer refrigerator/freezer. Plus a sink with disposer. We made this area our second kitchen! The neighborhood was wonderful-peaceful and quiet. The walk to the beach took about 15 minutes (when carrying chairs and boogie boards in the beach cart)—it was a little exhausting at the end of a long beach day.

The house also worked well due to its 4 separate bedrooms: a very nice master bedroom with full bath, another bedroom with shower bath, a bedroom with an adjacent shower bath (that room needs a real bed, not a trundle). And then there was a separate lower level bedroom/bath with adjacent basic family room and TV.

We were disappointed however in a couple of areas. First the general level of upkeep in the house was unsatisfactory. While the house itself was spotless, we found that more focus is needed on general maintenance before new renters come in: light bulbs were burned out / missing, one of the refrigerator drawers in the bar area was not working -- it was clogged with ice (we defrosted it), there was not a working can opener, one of the garage doors would not open and there were no laundry baskets (seems like a necessity). Every drawer we looked in for supplies was full of clutter and junk. There was a lot of junk in the drawers and closets too. Someone needs to spend a day de-cluttering and organizing the entire house.

Our next disappointment was the main kitchen. Someone needs to do an inventory of kitchen basics and warn potential renters about what is NOT provided. It was completely disorganized and lacking necessities such as a useable set of pots and pans, measuring cups and measuring spoons etc. Some appliances seemed to be from the 1970’s. Please restock the entire kitchen! We expected a higher quality of kitchen items based on the quality of the house and the rent we paid. We had planned to cook in for several meals, but we gave up that plan once we saw the lack of basics. It was exhausting to find anything.

Overall, we give this house a 7, but with a little TLC, it would be perfect 10!

Perfect Girls' Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of friends who meet once a year and have rented many houses in different cities so we can confidently say that this one is very special! The back of the house is surrounded by an absolutely lovely porch and because the house sits up higher than most of the neighboring homes, the view of the ocean and the lovely La Jolla area is spectacular. We hiked and kayaked and ate at some nice restaurants, but the house was so nice that we spent half our vacation on the porch.

We only used the main house, with five women and three bathrooms that worked nicely. Everything else was as advertised; clean, nice bedding, well equipped kitchen, lots of parking, walking distance to town, etc. but we LOVED that porch!

Great family trip

  • 5 of 5

This house worked beautifully for us. Perfect distance to the beach and downtown La Jolla. The separate quarters in the lower level were great for someone needing a bit of privacy but easy access to the rest of the house. Wonderful ocean views and while we were there the neighbor in back cut down a large tree and improved the view even more!
