About Sarah Faulkner-Mattingley
Darren and Sarah Mattingley, two life long Alaskans who live in the beautiful resort town of Girdwood with their children and many pets. We like to collect unique properties and transform them into works of art.
Sarah Faulkner-Mattingley purchased this House in 2013
Why Sarah Faulkner-Mattingley chose Girdwood
This property was originally built as a small cabin in the late 1960's and was remodeled and added on to in 1985. When we purchased it in 2014 we saw great potential for this property and loved the custom work that was done several years back so we continued on with the rustic theme and added another wing with an additional bedroom while updating the existing structure.
What makes this House unique
Girdwood is a small valley with limited land where the average lot size is about a quarter acre. This home is situated on a larger than average lot but what attracted us to this property was the treed lot and overall charm of the home.

Enchanting! Homey! Private!
We were looking for a short, private getaway. This place is perfect. Truly clean, warm and welcoming while being tucked away in the beautiful trees. Decor is cute and modern. The kitchen was well appointed. The bed was super comfy. The hot tub was a dream. Owners answered all our inquiries and calls promptly and addressed needs. We even managed to extend our stay for a day with no hassle. Photos don't do it justice. I'm sure we'll go back again.
Great property! Very clean and well cared for home in a great location. Sarah was great to work with. Highly recommend this property!
Lovely and cozy home
House is well equipped and comfortable, good location and quite However, one note for future users - in order to get to the master bedroom room or bathroom you need to walk through the small bedroom with the bunkbeds - limiting the privacy in that room - which was the reason for the 3 stars (otherwise a 4 plus). Also, one bathroom upstairs with the 3 bedrooms and one downstairs. With kids it should not be an issue but with 3 or more adults it is more of a two bedroom with loft/study. Thanks for sharing your home.
Beautiful home with gorgeous views! LOVED it!
My family and I stayed here in August 2018 and had an amazing time. The house is comfortable, lovely and had phenomenal views from the bedrooms and the main living area and deck - mountains, glaciers, woods. It's got everything you need to relax and cook (we cooked dinner every night) and feel at home. The decor is creative and artistic and the beds/couches are comfortable...and the views!
Sarah & Darren were extremely helpful and welcoming, and you can tell they care about their home and the comfort of their guests. Darren even showed us which berries (salmon berries, growing right by the front door and off the deck) are edible.
The deck is well constructed and we enjoyed sitting outside with coffee in the morning, enjoying the views and the fresh air. The hot tub is clean and new and private. We went for walks in the mornings & evenings and loved the neighborhood and the way you can can see trees and glaciers from every new street. We talked to a few neighbors and people walking dogs, and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
We loved the "tree loft" bedroom with all the windows - it literally made me want to buy this house and stay in Alaska.
Overall we had a great stay, and would definitely recommend this home to others. I'd stay here again next time we come to Alaska (which hopefully will be soon!)
Other positives: Staying in Girdwood instead of Anchorage means a much shorter drive to places like Whittier and Seward. It also means that you have glaciers right in your backyard! It's so gorgeous and relaxing to rent a house instead of getting a hotel. If you're on the fence, definitely go for this house...you won't regret it.
Beautiful home - Loved the elevated rooms!
Very lovely home with gorgeous natural light streaming in many windows. Could not have asked for a better place to stay and get ready for my wedding in. We saw moose and bear right off the front porch!
Beautiful and amazing. Great views. Perfect location. Quiet neighborhood near ski lifts.
We had a great stay. We have young kids and they did great in the space. Although not baby proof, with a few simple changes our kids were very safe. The adults all loved the space. Very clean and updated property. Hot tub a huge plus. Read other reviews on layout of home. Worked great for our group. We would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends.
