About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 4

'La casa de Yolly' is a large, comfortable, mostly wooden, two stories, house surrounded by a large garden, providing a unique close to nature experience, not far away from the center of Guatemala City.

The house is fully furnished. It has a large living room and a spacious dinning. The kitchen is newly equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, electrical oven, coffee maker, dishes and cooking utensils and all the other equipment that you may expect in a kitchen.

Yolly's House has two bedrooms and fits comfortably up to four guests. Each bedroom has its own complete bathroom. There is also a toilet room for guests on the first floor. The master bedroom comes with two twin beds and a large closet in which the visitor can comfortably fit his belongings. The other bedroom has a full bed and of course, its own large closet. It also has a cozy TV room, with cable service. It also has a sleeping couch for one person.

Among the services provided are included internet, towels, linens, housekeeping at least twice a week and laundry.

One very attractive feature of the house is the gorgeous garden that surrounds it. The house is framed by two large pine trees, which can be fully appreciated from the corridor and terrace overlooking the garden.

This is a special place for those who want to be in the city and yet, 'away from the madding crowd' and the look alike, impersonal, hotel rooms. The house lies in a quiet area of zone 2 in the city, and only fourteen blocks away from the city's main square, which can be easily reached by foot or public transportation.

About Luis

I was born in Guatemala City, in the very area in which Yolly's House is locate.Actually, the term 'Yolly's House' makes reference to my mother´s name, 'Yolanda'. Throughout the years, this property came to be known by such a term. I grew up in Guatemala and, at the age of 21, I went to study at Brandeis University, in Waltham, Mass., U.S.A. I have also lived in New York and Paris. I am therefore fluent in English and French. I also speak a little bit of German, since my son lives in Austria and my daughter in Switzerland. During 23 years I worked as a university professor, and I am now retired.

Why Luis chose Guatemala City

This house is very dear to me because I grew up in this area. Of course, when I was a young child this area looked very different from what it looks today. There were very few houses around and we were able to enjoy the vast fields that surrounded it. In what now constitutes the garden of this house, we once used to play baseball with the rest of the kids from the neighborhood.

More specially, the house was designed by my brother, an architect now living in Canada, and built, in a large part, by my father, who also planted the two large pine trees which are the emblem of our property. Nowadays, enjoying my retirement, me and my wife continue to take care of this wonderful place, 'our paradise', as we call, that I inherited thanks to the life work's of my parents.

What makes this house unique

I think the most impressive aspect of the house is the warmth it conveys its visitors. The combination of wood and brick, and its furnishing, conveys a very cozy feeling. And through its large windows, the visitor can enjoy a wonderful sight of the garden that surrounds it, which is visited by squirrels and various types of local birds.

Shangri La in Guatemala City

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights in this wonderful house which was extremely comfortable , well equipped and in a very quite neighborhood

We were within walking distance of the central plaza. To visit all of the great museums Guatemala City has to offer we used taxis which never cost more that about $7. The owner Luis and his family were very helpful with information on local events and the best restaurants in town

5 stars for this home away from home!!

Owner's Response: Isabella and Richard are a lovely couple who stayed with us for too short a time. They are wonderful people with whom it is very easy to get along. As guests, they were very respectful of the house. They were also very curious and interested in our garden and the various things that the city offers its visitors. We enjoyed their visit very much since they were wonderful guests. They are wellcome to stay with us again in the future.

Excelente casa

Beautiful house

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay and were very grateful to don Luis for going out of his way to assist us in many different ways during our stay. We initially planned on staying only one week, but ended up staying two weeks!! = )

Our deepest gratitude to Doña Rosita (the housekeeper), she is absolutely amazing!! Always ready to assist with anything and readily available to help us out with whatever we needed. She is definitely a great asset in this place.

The property is maintained very neatly and clean, such an amazing and refreshing view from any angle in the house. Would definitely recommend this property.
