We came upon this property seven years ago when it was a sadly neglected overgrown jungle that had been in the same Hawaiian family for almost 100 years. Besotted by the incredible beauty of this land, we set out immediately with a plan to build our dream escape inspired by Seychelles’ Maia Resort. Rigorously engineered and built to endure oceanfront conditions, this stunning home was completed in 2014 by award-winning island luxury home builder, Clever Construction. Busy life has left us with little time to enjoy the fruit of our labor, so we thought to ourselves why not sharing this small piece of Hawaii paradise with others.
Privacy, peace and quiet, soothing sound of the ocean, coral reef, sea turtles, migrating Humpback whales, dolphins, walk to Fairmont Orchid, walk on the beach and lava rock along the shore, Beach 69.
This home was very beautiful. The view and finishes in the guest house were top notch. There were a few flaws which leads to the four star instead of five. On the photos for this rental it's deceiving with the front shot of the rental. The entry way shown with the stairs leading up to the door is not what your staying in. That part made me a bit upset. You actually only have access to the side guest house to the left of the home. In order to get your bags to the guest house you must basically carry them all the way around the home on these large lava/stone pavers then carry them up a stair case and down a little breeze way. That was a bit of a challenge when it's two females with forty pound suit cases and bringing in groceries. We like to cook and make cocktails so the small kitchenette area in the "guest house" was small and there is no ice box in the mini fridge to keep ice in. I will say that the outdoor BBQ area was wonderful. We did successfully make all meals via BBQ and the single convection burner (some non-stick cook wear would have been nice). The lanai was absolutely beautiful we mainly sat out relaxing and enjoyed the gorgeous bay.
The beach was very rocky and hard to get into the water. It was January so I think the water was a bit more rough than in the summer months. We were only able to get out and swim once during our stay. There were lots of turtles and the hump back whales were migrating so we were able to take in some amazing sights of the whales playing out in the bay. Over all this house is nothing short of a beautiful design and top notch décor. We would definitely stay here again. The $800.00 a night price is a bit high though for the indoor space and for us the cooking accommodations. Overall we an epic time at this rental. Thank you.
I highly recommend this vacation home. The home, gardens, and views of the ocean are all magnificent.
Our family of 4 were lucky to have spent 2 weeks at these guest suites this summer. The rooms are beautifully furnished, spacious, steps away from the beach and ocean, and equipped with everything that we needed (washer/dryer, mini fridge). Having meals on the lanai is an experience: breathtaking views, wonderful ocean breeze and sounds. But the best part of staying here was the snorkeling and the turtles. Don't have to go far to see some amazing underwater life. And the turtles, they're all over the shoreline!
When you're on the property, it feels very private and remote, though you are only 10-15 minutes away from shops and restaurants. Overall, an amazing place to stay.
Rich in Hawaii history and sea life, Puako, once a small fishing village and sugarcane plantation, is a hidden gem nestled between Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani resorts on the Big Island. Blessed with little rainfall and plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures and gentle sea breeze, life in Puako is beyond all description. Teeming with sea life that includes sea turtles, monk seals, exotic corals, and many varieties of colorful reef fish, the Puako Marine Reserve provides an exceptional experience for diving and snorkeling, as well as kayaking and paddle-boarding enthusiasts. Neaby Puako Petroglyph Archeological Preserve is filled with images of ancient Hawaii life carved on smooth orange-red pahoehoe lava rock. Close proximity to resort amenities, shopping centers, Hapuna Beach, and Beach 69 offers Puako residents the best of both worlds.
