Great cabin getaway!

  • 4 of 5

First Bend River Cabin was a perfect place for us to get away with our dog. The cabin itself is very cozy. They supplied towels, dish soaps and human soaps, trash bags, paper towels - all the essentials. The hot tub was lovely, although instructions are needed if staying there for an extended amount of time. I think there is some maintenance after the first couple days... gorgeous view off the deck of corn fields and Mount Elmore with the Lamoille River in the foreground. Awesome trails to walk around right out the front door - great for the dog! Fun to walk down to the river with her, too - good for a hot afternoon. It is very "out there" - takes about 10 mins to get to rt. 15 and then another 15 or so mins to get into Stowe. Great location for hiking! Very much enjoyed our stay and hope to get back at some point.

Remote & Cozy

  • 4 of 5

Definitely need to have "cabin" in mind. The location is at the end of the road... literally. The cottage has all the features and the bikes actually ALL work! We had no problems during our stay and the description was accurate. Being from Michigan we are use to seeing wild life. I do not know if it is just because of the time of year, but we did not even have crickets chirping at night. If you are looking for private, peaceful, and remote, this is your get-a-way!

A clean, cozy house with amazing views. We were very pleased with the location and loved the pond!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (two adults and two young children) couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. We loved the layout of the house, the décor, the location, the hot tub, the blueberries! This cabin exceeded our expectations in all areas! We even used a couple of the bikes to enjoy the Stowe bike path on one of our days there. We also brought a canoe and put it in the river behind the cabin (a bit tricky and water levels were high during our stay), but convenient. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had all the essentials to cook our meals (we only dined out 2 times during our 1 week stay). We will definitely be booking another stay at this cabin!

Not what I expected AT ALL

  • 2 of 5

We arrived around 9:30pm to total darkness after a long drive (on the dirt path) up to the house. When we first walked in we immediately noticed that there was no air conditioner & the water was not working. How could a house not have a/c? It gets into the 80's during the summer. I also thought that I read about a loft with a way! Besides the spider webs and lack of mattress in the loft, I would never allow my kids or anyone to sleep up there. We found the fans and opened up all of the windows in order to try to cool the house down (the problem is there were a million bugs outside and many of them came into the house). We then opened up the sleeper sofa and were just grossed out by what was all over the bed (and under) was either covered with dead bugs or tiny pine needles. We then attempted to flip the mattress but found what was either DOG FOOD or rat poop. I called the nighttime maintenance guy who quickly came to turn the water on and he vacuumed whatever was under the mattress. The small bed in the master bedroom was comfortable and the temperature cooled down with the help of the fan. My kids were miserable and refused to stay so we decided to repack everything and leave.

Also, if you plan on fishing in the river, it would be very difficult to get to via the backyard because it is a long way down the mountain/hill with a lot of brush that you would need to walk through. There is a very nice lake/pond 1/2 way up from the road.

One thing that I would like to mention, I was very impressed with their management company, Stowe Country Homes. The handled my issues very professionally, quickly and fairly. I would not hesitate to call them next time to find a place for us to stay at.

Lovely cabin in a tranquil and charming area

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed very much our stay and wanted to thank the owners for allowing us to share all the facilities with us. The house is located at the end of a wondrous road and just as recommended winter tires or 4x4 is a must. It sits on a small hill in front of the river and faces an open area with a relaxing view. We used the BBQ and the wooden stove, both well equipped. The house has everything to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay: books, CDs, games, not to mention kitchen gear and washer/dryer.

The staff from the rental agency is equally helpful and pleasant. The day before our departure there was a winter storm. We called expressing concerns about the plowing of the road. Allison reassured us the village handles this appropriately (and they came about 3times until the next morning) when the owner's plowing company came and cleaned the driveway.

Overall we had a great time. Highly recommend the cabin and the rental agency!

Beautiful Property for a Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The First Bend River Cabin was an absolutely beautiful place to spend a long weekend. Quiet and somewhat secluded, the cabin was exactly as pictured. Beautiful woodwork, gorgeous kitchen, and stunning views! There was a great selection of books, CDs, and games available and I especially enjoyed being able to light up a fire in the wood stove. Close to Stowe and tourist attractions.
