Fabulous Apartment

  • 5 of 5

The perfect apartment for the perfect Paris vacation. This apartment was so cute. Wooden beams, brick walls, tile floors, and large windows that open for a wonderful Parisienne street view. It's location was ideal! Large department store on the corner (which always helped as a landmark to find our way home), near the Hotel de'Ville, metro and train stops are very close and all the most fabulous restaurants, cafes, bakeries and a grocery store.

My correspondence with the owner (Berthon Cassandre) was always prompt and efficient. She had Ingrid greet us and she was very sweet and helpful with all details (including how to work the TV). We were 6 people and we found the accommodation fitted us fine. Small kitchen but it worked great for small meals like breakfast and had an added bonus of a dishwasher. I can't recommend this property enough if you are looking for something in central Paris. I would definitely rent this apartment again and can't wait to come back. I miss opening the windows and looking down on the street and if you are there on the weekend around 11:00 look outside for the quirky man and his "flying bike" all spray painted gold.

Just terrific!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just left this apartment, so we can tell you it was absolutely great! The apartment itself is loaded with character and nicely decorated. It has everything you could possibly need, right down to a strong hairdryer (no need to bring one----I have very thick hair and it dried my hair faster than it's ever been dried before!) The wifi is excellent. The kitchen lacked for nothing. We made breakfast every morning from stores right down the street----baguettes, butter, jam, croissants, eggs. I miss my baguettes and croissants already. The bed is just fabulous. I know that's a strong word, but it was. We walked miles every day and because of the quality and support of the mattress, we did not have one ache in our body. It's a temperpedic type. There is plenty of storage for clothes and the room has curtains that keep the room dark. It is very quiet. The bathroom was modern and we had no trouble with the shower- strong water pressure. We loved the big windows in the living room. It was fun to watch the world go by from them. They open and there's a nice cross breeze if the place gets a little stuffy. I like that the building had two doors to go through ---for safety, as the apartment is at a busy intersection with a lot people. The building is so old and the inside is fascinating. My husband just couldn't get over the steps and beams, etc. From the outside, it looks like a typical city apartment----the door is between two stores and you are two floors above the stores. It is a very hip, urban area with a major department store diagonally across the street and cafes and markets and bakeries and boutiques, etc, going both ways. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't in a more quaint, pretty area, but the location quickly made up for that. You are one block form the metro and taxi stand, two blocks from the Seine and the bridge that takes you over to Il de la Cite (Notre Dame) and that is where the RER (train station) is. That made life very easy! The location is central enough that you can walk to many major sites. (Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, The Louvre, Victor Hugo's house, Picasso Museum, etc.) The owner is very responsive and helpful. We came in on an early morning flight and she was gracious enough to let us into the apartment early. We really did appreciate that. Although she couldn't be there to meet us, she sent her friend Gaelle who was just great. She let us in and showed us where everything was. Would rent again!

Beautiful, comfortable apartment in the Marais

  • 5 of 5

I rented this apartment for 3 weeks in September 2016 and was very happy with my stay. As others have mentioned, the apartment is extremely well-located, in the heart of Paris, yet it is peaceful inside, and the bedroom, which faces the courtyard, is especially quiet. Even on hot days, the thick walls, large windows, and portable fans kept the apartment comfortable. The furnishings are in very good condition and the bed is extremely comfortable. Beyond that, the apartment is full of character. I loved the exposed beam walls and appreciated the 350+ year old craftsmanship. Cassandre was very kind, but she did sometimes take a number of days to respond to emails, so build in some extra communication time. I highly recommend this apartment and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Wonderful apartment in great location

  • 5 of 5

Great apartment! The location is wonderful - 1 block from the metro, 1.5 blocks to the bus stop, 2 blocks to the Seine. Velib bike rentals within a block. Wonderful neighborhood with lots of restaurants, shops, churches, etc. The apartment has fantastic timber beamed ceilings, a spacious living room with 2 couches, and a nice bedroom with plenty of storage and a very comfortable mattress. Since the bedroom is at the back of the apartment, you don't hear the street noise. The kitchen is small, but we didn't use it much as the Parisian food is so wonderful at the cafes and restaurants. The refrigerator does a great job keeping things cold, and the combo washer dryer is small but works well. Assume about 3 hours for a complete wash & dry.

Recommended restaurants:

Cafe Vito - right around the corner, wonderful inexpensive oven fired pizzas

La Boulangerie - 2 blocks down the street to the east, ate a wonderful French breakfast there every day for 2 weeks except on Mondays when they are closed. Charming service!

Au Bourguignon du Marais - a few blocks further east and south but great French basic cuisine and friendly service!

L'Alivi - three blocks to the east, Corsican, great pork chop, good wine!

And to top things off - Pozzetto's for incredibly good sorbets and ice cream. Three blocks east. The chocolate/hazelnut is sublime! My wife loved the citron sorbet.

Cassandra is very responsive and wants to make sure you have a nice stay. Highly recommended! We would definitely go back.

A very nice 1 BR flat in the Marais

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is quite lovely, and well maintained. The wooden beams and high ceilings of the restored convent space make you really feel like you are in the heart of the Marais, and you are. This is probably the best rental apartment I've had, for the price, in my 5 trips to Paris. It's one short block from the Hotel de Ville metro stop (line 1), and so it is perfect for a short weekend in Paris visiting the Louvre and walking the Marais. I stayed 5 weeks there on business, and so I discovered that as in all Paris buildings, some neighbors are also renting their apartments; quiet varies with whomever is upstairs that week. I think this is the same with all apartments in the Marais. Madame Berthon is a good host, though you have to be patient with her by email; she doesn't always check it daily. I must compliment Gaelle on being easy to meet for check-in and check-out, despite me finding it really hard to get the address and phone numbers from the badly-designed VRBO website. I think the advertising for the place that popped up just now "...possible 2 bedrooms 2 WC-bathroom..." is very confusing and hard to understand. This was a completely stand alone 1 bedroom with 1 toilet that was in the bathroom. The living area does have a sleeper sofa. The title also refers to another independent rental that can be combined with this one if it is available.

A superb market takes place twice a week 'Place Baudoyer' 150m (Saturday from 7 am to 15h and Wednesday from 12:30 to 20:30).
