The Gatehouse is a historic French country home situated on an acre on the Pasatiempo Golf Club, five minutes from Santa Cruz beaches and the famed Boardwalk, and close to nearly two dozen wineries located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Pasatiempo is highly rated nationally. It is #55 by Golf Magazine's Top 100 in the U.S.; #14 by Zagat America's Top Golf Course Guide; and #1 Golf Digest Senior Edition. It is the perfect gathering place for family, friends or business associates. You can host in style - in the warm, yet elegant dining-living area or the brick patio area.

The house has Four bedrooms. The master bedroom features a beautiful cathedral ceiling; a sliding glass door opens to a private deck with a secluded view of the 2nd fairway and a newly remodeled bathroom with a grand bathtub and steam shower and radiant heat flooring. Adjacent to the master is a nicely appointed office for your emails or work environment. All of the bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, have king- or queen-size beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and down pillows and comforters, Smart TV's and wifi in every room.

Our policy typically is to receive payment in full at time of booking, however if you are requesting dates over (3) months in advance and would prefer to pay in-full closer to your stay, please contact owner.

Activities while staying at The Gate House abound, from golf, shopping, wine tasting, beaches and dining to staying in and grilling on the patio or cooking in the gourmet kitchen to curling up with a good book in front of the dramatic fireplace or in the hammock.

Men's and women's clubs are available for guests who want to play golf but didn't bring their clubs (easy walk to driving range). The beautiful DeLaveaga Golf Course is just five minutes away, as an alternative to Pasatiempo.

Beautiful home in a beautiful location.

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely home. Plenty of space, quiet and comfortable. Just a couple of suggestions: more eating utensils, especially spoons and kitchen towels. Also maybe a dish rack. Otherwise, the home had everything anyone could need or want.

house was clean and beautiful. The location was great, only a few miles from downtown santa cruz. The game room was loads of fun for our boys. I had read on one of the reviews that there was no master shower, but that was not the case. Not only was there a shower, but it also served as a steam. Everything was impeccably clean and i will definitely stay here again if i am ever in the area.

Family Weekend

The home is a perfect location to base your family trip to the boardwalk or beach. Quiet golf course community. Although, the beautiful pictures were taken quite a few years ago and this place needs some TLC immediately. The carpets were severely stained even though you were directed to note any imperfections prior to moving in due to the "pristine" quality of the home per the write up. The hall thermostat was in disrepair. The reader board needed batteries and could not read heat temperature. The gas lighter for the fireplace was not working and no directions were provided. The TV's throughout the house were not working. It was determined that the TV's were unplugged with no direction to re-plug in before operation. Also the TV remotes were not located with the correct TV's and were not marked per the move in packet write up. The GFI plugs in the kitchen and one bathroom were not functioning. The landscaping needed some TLC also. This home in its day was probably great and pristine, BUT now needs some much needed attention. Beware and take note that the Master Bedroom does not have a shower of any kind. The bath was originally larger and this area is now boarded up and can not be used. This home could be so much more than it is today. Hope the owners take note and complete some much needed repairs.

Owner's Response: We appreciate feedback from our guests. Our guest in this case arrived on a Friday afternoon and departed Monday morning. On Friday night we did receive communication about three of these issues which we attended to Friday night and Saturday morning. We found some stains on the carpet from the previous guest that checked out that same Friday and had ordered the carpet’s to be cleaned on Monday. One T.V was not working, as the cord came unplugged from the back of the unit during the housekeeping process, which we fixed Friday night shortly after the call. The real log fireplace was working fine, however the guest was confused as to how to light the gas burner (guest thought there was no gas being supplied to the burner, however with a bit more patience (15 seconds) the gas was able to ignite). We were not informed about a heater thermostat not working (battery replacement was needed). We are confused about the GFI comment as all electrical outlets are working. With the shortage of water in Santa Cruz county and the limitations on watering once per week, our lawns have become partially brown and thus the landscape comment is probably somewhat warranted. As to the master bathroom not having a shower, this is accurate however we do not advertise that there is a shower in the master bathroom. It is represented on our listing as tub only. There are 2 other showers in the home.

Mom's 80th

The home was as pretty as the pictures! We all had opted to stay and relax more at the home than deal with the crowds. Mom's 80th Birthday Retreat was such a hit, we will institute it as an annual event! And the hammock and spa were a big hit too! Such a relaxing atmosphere. Thank you!

Our stay at the Gatehouse

Our California children and their two boys spent a few nights with us at the Gatehouse. It is an amazing place, reminiscent of an English country house. The house worked perfectly for the six of us; we honestly enjoyed staying "home" for dinners, and really appreciated the game room (which occupied two teenagers' time very nicely). We'll think of returning next year.

We (three middle aged couples) have rented vacation homes annually for twenty years. Until our last stay, we are proud not ever to have encountered any issues or problems, largely because we take pride in the way we care for every home we rent.

After returning home from our stay, we were contacted by the property management company (Inn at Pasatiempo) and advised that we were being assessed a charge for two stained towels. Despite several attempts to convince them that we were absolutely not responsible for the stains, we were charged for new towels anyway. Since we conscientiously and meticulously take great care to ensure that each home we rent is left in as good, if not better, condition than before we arrive. we are both insulted and extremely annoyed over being held responsible for the damage, albeit rather minor, that clearly was not attributable to us.

In addition, inadequate screens lead to a significant mosquito problem, especially in one room. One couple, had a difficult time sleeping due to mosquitoes buzzing in their ears and woke with bites all over! Finally, the AC system did not function adequately and there were insufficient supplies, i.e., no dish washer soap nor extra trash bags.

In short, our stay ranks among the least favorite of the twenty homes we have rented
